How are flea markets in terms of getting retro games? I've never seen a single thread about them here.

Depends on where you go. I've been to several flea markets that had games and usually for good prices.
Some that had awful prices. But usually any swap meet has stuff for stupid cheap.
>>

What about the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop, the "largest daily flea market in the world".

IS that place still open? Last time I was there you couldn't go out any later than 10AM because it became a concrete pavement skillet. I swear my flip flops started to melt. You don't forget heat like that.

It meant GTFO, I used a cheat emulator thing back in the day and set my health to be infinite and discovered this thing was doing like 50 damage per hit (designed to just kill you if you run into it).

I forget the trick involved but you basically have to use the tunnels to get around it, and be careful that it doesn't doubleback on you.

What does /vr/ think of the 3DO?

Yes.
>>
It's a console!

It's pretty good, got some decent games before companies like Sony and then Microsoft with more money to burn were able to more successfully implement the strategies the 3DO company originally came up with.

I always beelined for it at whatever the hell Best Buy used to be called when I was a kid to play that Jurassic Park game, specifically the part where you got chased around by Raptors as Muldoon, only the coolest motherfucker ever to my child brain.

Get on fightcade you fool.

Played this for the SNES years ago and couldn t remember anything about it. I played the Genesis version last night and couldn t believe how bad it was. If it was based on some other character I would just say it was a bad action platformer, but moving a green molasses Hulk around helplessly takes things to a new low.
Anyone here enjoy it, finished it, or can explain to me what they were thinking?

You guys have those stores in your area? Are they all such shitty sellers too? The one next to me keeps trying to pass their retro price as competitive with ebay while most of the time this isn't true at all. They're always 10$ over minimum.

Also they pressurise people into buying stuff, like they don't care even ask your approval and they're going to order stuff for you if they don't have it. I fucking hate this place because it's the place with the best retro carts I can find too.

Chain videogame stores like this are always going to be "shitty sellers", anon. They're here to make a profit for themselves, not for you.
>>
>>4152787
Well I had a "Microplay'' near my place before and they were pretty decent. They never tried to shove used copies in my face and they also had retro prices under ebay prices.

Also I don't understand why people would go back to stores who treat people like shit.
>>
>>4152787
My area has gamestop and all of one retro game store who has decided that he is either an amazon outlet or an ebay outlet, which ever is more expensive.

Capacitors, maybe. What kind of question is this? You'd have to know what's wrong with it first. But repairing these things is pretty straightforward, so I wouldn't sweat it too much.
>>
Sorry working and trying to start this thread so no proof reading. I have the ability to take one of these home, but I know nothing about them and I dont know which model is better than the rest.
>>
>>4152497
Just read the model names and look them up. There are lots of guides on which ones are better. Just put the model name in your search engine.

For my fellow /vr/ethren here, how many imported retro consoles do you have (not from your native region)?

I am American and I have an SCPH-5903 which is an NTSC-J console but I bought it from a Filipino immigrant who bought it from the Philippines.
I also have a Famicom, Super Famicom, gold Nintendo 64, Skeleton Saturn, Code Veronica STARS Dreamcast, Neo Geo AES, Neo Geo CD and a PC Engine SuperGrafx with a Super CD-ROM2, they are all from Japan.
And because I am fluent in Japanese, I don't need to use translations but I did region mod some of my consoles just so they can play both North American, European and Japanese games.

I think the only retro consoles I have which aren't imports are my PSOne, Sega Genesis with a Sega CD and 32X, Sega Master System, Super NES and an NES, all from the US.

Don't include handhelds, by the way.

Pic unrelated somewhat but it fits the general theme of imported retro consoles, even if they're not imported in the context of the picture.

Zero. All my consoles were bought locally dirt cheap. Would love an MSX2 though. May resort to buying a CD32 from England.
>>
This strikes me as a rather circlejerky thread.

Reminds me of how I like to post about how I also know Japanese and how I'm moving to Japan next year.
>>
>>4152264
I've got 2 NTSC-J PS1, and an NTSC-J PS2 slim. About half my PS1 library is NTSC-J because the prices on NTSC-U/C games is just getting dumb, and are missing content often times.

Poor level design and a gimmick that just isn't very fun.
>>
>>4152232
outside of a very limited number of instances when explicitly called for, the bungee gimmick was pointless. at least it could be circumvented by just running around carrying your partner all the time.
The Amazing Arena stage is about the worst stage in any platformer ever. I like the other levels just fine though and the music is wonderful for the entire game.
>>
It got rushed out and moved to a doomed console, should have been on the Saturn at launch. That's it really, has lots of cool shit going for it otherwise. Given time they could have designed the levels much better and filled all the empty space.

Anyone play this game released in 1981? any tips?

My mind was blown when I realized I could blow up walls with grenades. I thoroughly enjoy playing it every now and then, regardless of how old it is. The 'atmosphere' and voices and difficulty of the controls make it a good challenge.

Is it better to go stealth? or just kill em all?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I played this one on my C64 back when it was new, and loved it. Beat it, and the sequel, too.

I remember being disappointed in Wolfenstein 3D that all you could do was shoot guys.

I always found stealth to be the better tactic when possible, just watch out for the SS guys because they may see through your disguise and then everyone will be coming at you.

Mmmm... Sauerkraut.
>>
>>4153604
I get the problem when I enter a room and am surrounded by soldiers and can't do shit... what do? No uniforms or anything around.

Are there times when you have to start a new game, or do you just keep trying, hoping to eventually shoot one guy and then make some progress?

Also the SS guys are annoying as fuck when they block the only path and you have no grenades. I end up trying to lure them away from the path I need to take, purposely get caught 3 or 4 times before I can actually make it past one of them.
>>
>>4154092

If you enter a room full of soldiers, back out quickly and run.
I seem to recall you can lure guards away from their station by making noise, too.

And yeah, sometimes you'll just want to start over with a new map. Random level generation can be a bastard.

Hey, /vr/. Can somebody RepTill me on the Mortal Kombat series?

I've seen pretty much each individual entry being called the best one around here, but I only ever played the PC version of II (which I enjoyed). Which ones are best for competitive gaming? Best home versions for each? Is Trilogy any good?
