Opinions? Are those solid games? Looking for good NES Action RPG's to compliment Zelda.
they're kind of dumb

Yes, if you're looking for nes action rpgs. The only issue I have with Willow is you have a password system for an rpg, rather than a save system. It shouldn't be an issue if you're emulating it, due to save states, but the actually physical medium passwords pissed me off.
For a system with no games it sure has a lot of must plays

Mario 64
Paper Mario
OoT
Majora's Mask
Banjo-Tooie
Donkey Kong 64
Mario Party 3
I think the N64 has fewer "merely good" games compared to other consoles, you just have the great classics and then lots of shovelware, but its peaks are as high as anything the competition has to offer.
I was always confused by the way N64 was looked back at so fondly compared to the GCN during the following generation. Both have the same problems: mostly just a handful of classic Nintendo games with lots of bad attempts to cash-in on those games, inferior third-party ports, and a high-degree of power clashing horribly with the prohibitively small proprietary storage medium.
But then, I guess a lot of the most high-profile Gamecube games were just slightly enhanced sequels to highly innovative, game-changing N64 games like Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker and Smash Bros Melee.
By the way, are there really no RPGs on N64 aside from Quest 64 and Ogre Battle? Surely there must be some shitty Japan-only ones that nobody remembers.

Not games you think are god awful necessarily, just popular games you've never been able to enjoy/get invested in.
I've tried Super Metroid numerous times and always lose interest sometime around the third boss. I just find the environments too samey and uninteresting, like the whole game is just the same level. Underground/cavern scenery only stays interesting so long.
The core gameplay doesn't do much for me, either. I normally like run-and-gun and things like this, but... it feels so floaty and slow paced. Something about it just doesn't appeal. It's also WAY too backtracky for me.
I don't find it to be a bad game and like a good deal about it, like the level design itself, enemy design, the setting, the atmosphere, etc. I just can't get into actually playing it and don't really find it fun.

I lost interest after ten minutes, but apparently it's a sin to admit it in public.
>>4154418
Is ten minutes really enough time to base an opinion on? An hour I'd get, but ten minutes?

Yoshis Island. I wanted to like this game, i really did, but i just could not get into it.
I grew up with the nes SMB games, and they are still some of my favorite games of all time. When 4th gen rolled around i got a sega, but still got to play snes at friends' houses. Naturally SMW joined the upper echelons of my favorites too, but i never got to play yi.
Fast forward to my late teens / early 20s. I finally get a snes. Or of the first games i get is SMW2:YI. I remember being so excited to finally get my hands on it, then disappointment setting in. I can't exactly say why, but my guess is because it felt like platforming took a backseat collecting, and the game.felt more like a chore than anything.
Do they ruin the game and the experience of it in the sense of continue from a point, not starting a new game since back then you was supposed to pay for them and still it looks like cheating/p2w. I'm not really knowledgeable on retro games but tried to search about it on google and didn't find anything so please excuse me for my stupidity.

Credits are inapp purchases
It depends on the game. Some games pretty much just treat continues like extra lives, allowing you to earn more in-game through scoring or secrets or whatever. Meanwhile, you have games that lock away endings or bosses behind a 1cc.

So, I know you're trying to be funny but its killing me inside to know because I want to beat games the "proper" way
Here is an official survey. What are 4chan's top 10 maps for Duke Nukem 3D? You can include stuff from addons like Caribbean if you want.
Here is my take:
1. LA Rumble
2. Freeway
3. Pigsty
4. Red Light District
5. Golden Carnage (from World Tour)
6. Mirage Barrage (from World Tour)
7. Dark Side
8. Lunar Reactor
9. Derelict
10. Lunatic Fringe (it's just awesome technology!)
Hollywood Holocaust should be instant #1, the best level for any game ever.

It was great in it's time but didn't age very well.

Final level of Caribbean is top tier
Interested in getting a PC Engine because I really need to play Rondo. (I know I can play it on Wii and PSP, I don't fucking want to.) Name some other really fun PC Engine games to justify my purchase.
In general, PC Engine/Turbografx thread.
Do you know Japanese or are you interested in learning it?
>>4153965
Don't know it. Haven't really thought about learning it. Would be cool to look into.
If you don't know Japanese, your options are kind of limited. Bonk and Neutopia are good. There are tons and tons of shmups if you're into those.
perfect castlevania
>>4153529
agreed
I agreebut Rondo is better
We know how it goes, someone will come and post the screenshot of the falling blocks stage and claim Alucard and Sypha are shit characters.
>>4153701
And for Rondo, someone will come and say Maria is moeshit, too easy, item crash, etc.
There is no perfect CV gameExcept for CV1.
Why did Tobal 2 fail?
>>4152415
What's that?
>>4152415
Because Tobal No 1 failed. Square was really full of themselves back then. I swear the only reason they even made that game was to make the title of the first make sense.
>best graphics
>good gameplay
>300 customizable characters
>Akira Toriyama design
>deep and amazing RPG mode
>Squaresoft street cred
>magazines drooling over the game
It had no reason to fail.
Post the games from early play station saturn and Nintendo 64
You are stuck in a room for eternity, with only one retro game to play. Which one do you choose?
Final Fantasy V. Long jrpg with substantial replay value. It won't keep me entertained for eternity but it'll keep me entertained longer than most retro.
Do I have internet connection? If so, Doom. If not, Civ of some kind.
>>4151365
If the game has level editors, are we allowed to have those too?
Cool RETRO!
N64 is very cool!

nice Id like to go BASS fishing with these cool dude. drink some brews
>1994
>everyone is hyped for the Sega CD
>games look amazing for their time
>eventually everyone realizes that they are literally just straight up movies with occasional input
>Sega CD flops
>2017
>games have literally become just flat out movies with occasional input and quick time events
>sells like hot cakes
????????
what's going on here? I thought everyone realized that gameplay was the key in the fifth gen?
Sega CD didn't have trophies/achievements to make people feel rewarded for playing movies.
Uncharted and Last of Us is way more interactive than shit like Dragon's Lair and Road Avenger, as awesome as those games were.
>>4151129
1994
people had good taste
2017
people have bad taste
Is there anyway to emulate this? I can't find a decent saturn emulator while the roms exist.
Even if there isn't, is there anyway to make my own copy of the game since sega lost the source code and the game is a collector item making it hard to find outside of the US for a reasonable price.
>>4151086
Best info I can offer is to wait another 5-7 years.
Yabause should work okay if your computer is decent. You can run a burned copy with a Pro Action Replay converted to Pseudo or a mod chip or the swap trick
Mednafen handles Saturn pretty damn well now. The retroarch core is a little bit behind in updates compared to the upstream but you'll get pretty high compatibility and much lower input lag than SSF.
I don't have the roms to test, but a quick look at youtube shows videos running the game perfectly.
Where are the retro games? Take all this modern crap to the right board and lets talk real Retro here, and not what you got a couple years ago. This board is a joke. Own at least 4 of the games in the photo or GTFO.
Everyone in /vr/ is 18-20, they're at that age when you feel you're super old and enjoy calling others underage, but they'd suffer an aneurysm if you put them in front of an atari2600 game.
I have almost all those
>>4149093
27 here. I only like 5-6 games on the atari catalog. But OP does have a few of them in there.
Who's your retro wife?
Was she really or do you just get off on porn drawings of her?
You only see her for brief moments in the classic Megaman games. The only realistic way I could see you growing attached to her growing up is if you mained her in Marvel vs Capcom.
>>4142903
Kino faps watching us fuck.
>>4142910
Not him, but she's still part of the games, and there's all the official art of her, so of course she counts. Mine is Fado. I want to sniff her feet so badly. Bonus, do you think your retro waifu has stinky feet? Double bonus: post your retro waifu's feet.
