>F-FUCK YOU NAKA, BECAUSE OF YOU WE DON'T AND NEVER WILL HAVE SONIC XTREME WAAAAAH
why do people say this so often? NiGHTS is infinitely better than Xtreme ever would have been
NiGHTS is like a tech demo
>>4158898
Because a new IP targeted at gaylords won't sell consoles.
Because of that self-delusional cycle Sonic fans go through every time the idea of a new Sonic happens.
New Sonic definitely won't suck like last Sonic => New Sonic sucks because it wasn't like Sonic I liked => A new Sonic game is announced => New Sonic definitely won't suck like old Sonic etc. etc.

Ain't those girls a bit young?
Best waifus in a Harvest Moon game, that's retro anyway
Can't really argue with that, though Elli would be a bit too mommy-ish for me.

Karen > Elli > Ann > Popuri > Mary
This is objective. Fight me.

Why should I use this over mame?
>>4158413
Yeah. Why OP?
What hybrid retro-consoles would you recommend /vr/?
>>4158332
Well those aren't even retro consoles. That's modern amalgams that just happen to play retro games.
>>4158332
The only decent one is the NT Mini, but it's way too expensive to justify. Just buy a Wii.
>>4158341
I'm new if you cannot tell. I take it I got some terms wrong. Can you please clear things up for me or point me somewhere that can?
Noob from /tg/ here. Where are the huge image files/wiki articles suggesting a huge list of classic games by category and genre?
I just got a Dimension 3100 (Yes, it's quite a big steaming pile of crap, thank you very much) hooked up to my Apartment's TV, and I'm using it for streaming and as a cheap retro-console. Thus, I need suggestions, both for good Multiplayer and epic storyline games.
Apologies in advance for any offenses/inter-board conflicts this thread may incur... But at least Shadowrun SNES was a great game, right?
>>4157903
The classic games will be like "Sonic, Mario, Street Fighter lol".
Now, there's a ton of god-tier games (Alien Soldier, Windjammers, Tobal 2...) that may not be considered classics because only retro gaming nerds know them.
So, what do you want?
>>4157903
Play Shadow of Mystara on MAME
>>4157914
The /vr/ road-trip through 16-bit era multiplayer classics for me and my roommates to enjoy would be a good start, specifically with the backwoods tour of unsung classics. I can get the classics from any top ten list or most downloaded under the "Multiplayer Roms" category.
Besides that, I'm also looking for completely original and unique experiences. Games that have an incredible atmosphere or story that hasn't been replicated before or since.
Whats the best retro shmup and why?
>>4157743
Ikaruga, because of very obvious reasons
>>4157791
>babby's first shmup
Nah.
is the hardware in this thing good or not? people keep saying that it has shit hardware while others say its as good, if not better, than the original playstation.
Good at what?
>>4157256
>T. PSX purist.
It was hard to program for, doesn't mean it was crap. Studios that knew how to use it made some of thr best games for it
Are there any retro consoles / computers that actually had a 1:1 (square) pixel aspect ratio?
Also why is it so hard to find a comprehensive and definitive resource for accurate PARs?
Why would you ask if a certain console had 1:1 pixels when all that would depend on the TV being used?
>>4157180
It's assumed that any TV at that time would be 4:3.
Japanese computers like the PC98 had square pixels. I don't think you'll find a single game that looks 4:3 rather than 16:10.
Those games aren't worth anything and are very old.
I don't even have the appropiate drive for my PC.
I'll buy them for $3 each.
What are you looking for in exchange OP?
I'd like Mischief Makers, Jet force Gemini, Paper Mario and Yoshi.
I have a bunch of PS1 and Game Boy games I'd be willing to trade.
I'll trade you a box of twinkies for jet force gemini
So besides the goldbox DnD games. What other SSI games are worh a look?
This is my favorite DOS game of all time
This one's pretty cool
Panzer and People General
I was lurking one day and I noticed that many people here like Saga Frontier, and today I decided to play for the first time.
But as I read about it, I discovered it wasn't the first game of the "Saga" series. Do I need to play the others to properly understand and play Saga Frontier?
Also, does anyone have any advice for a first time player?
>>4156497
>Do I need to play the others to properly understand and play Saga Frontier?
not really. Read the manual if you want, or just look at the controls section.
You should probably stay clear of Lute and Riki for the first run, their routes aren't beginner friendly. If you really get stuck on the others, try http://wiki.rpgclassics.com/index.php?title=SaGa_Frontier
>>4156497
Blue is probably one of the better ways to start off the game, mostly because of how it introduces you to one of the game's important systems: Magic.
It's not a particularly long scenario, and the major thing it really touches on (acquiring the gifts for schools of magic) can be important in other scenarios for characters, but is completely optional for them (just know that you can't do a quest to acquire a gift twice - so getting a gift prevents future characters that join in that scenario from acquiring it).
Red and Emilia are also relatively good starting points. Asellus and T260 are good mid-game ones, simply because they're a bit heavier on more unique mechanics, but not really too out-there.
Don't do Lute's story first (as it's very easy to railroad yourself into the point-of-no-return final dungeon almost as soon as you complete the intro), and Riki will be a bit tricky if you don't really understand how monsters work.
Once you get started on a scenario and get access to travel between regions, generally go to Scrap first, and stop by the bar. It has several characters you can generally recruit in most scenarios.
I played the gameboy ones years ago, and didn't pick up saga frontier till last year. I did not realize they were even related until a friend pointed it out.
Why does this game have a reputation for being hard?
>>4155961
try playing without the code for once
>>4155961
Should've had checkpoints after every death desu.
i can whoop contra like 3 times in a row without using the code!
>I gotta go pick up a piano in the attic
Wow what a great reason to go into a creepy house.
/vr/ will try and explain that it's super retro to have nonsensical storytelling

ITT: We speculate an additional Zelda game of the N64 era. What if it was a trilogy? So to speak. The game would star the Hero of Time. What would you have liked to have seen?
>>4155483
Well, if I were to think for a moment, and to help the convo. -- OoT was very linear
Majora's Mask entailed running a lot of errands, and there was a lot you could do before even bothering to complete the first temple
With those two gameplay aspects in mind, where would a third 3D zelda game fall into this?
Is it going to be an open economy game, and you have to fish as link and sell the fish? I'm kidding
>>4155487
OoT wasn't linear.
>>4155495
You essentially have to play the temples in a particular order with little to do in between besides look for heart pieces
How reliable are Cex, fellow britbongs?
>>4154974
Judging by that logo they are a bunch of bellends
>>4154974
In what respect, lad? You need to be more specific.
They buy basically anything. This means that they will buy shitty, scratched to hell games but sell them for a very low price. It's pretty bad, and means you need to make sure you always have a disc-cleaning kit around if you buy any of their stock. Most stuff from them is in perfectly good position, you just have to watch out for those "too good to be true" deals.
Otherwise, their prices are usually pretty reasonable on the whole. If you're selling then don't expect to get too much, but otherwise I think they're okay on the whole.
If you buy a ps2 from them you'll probably find a stash of weed in the expansion bay.
