How do I get good at sidescrolling beat-'em-uos?
play a lot, learn the controls
It's about area control. Getting the enemies to go where you want them to go and timing your attacks to when the enemy's vulnerable.
Kinda' turns me off.

Do you mean belt-scrollers, perchance?
What is your favorite retro Konami series, /vr/?
http://poal.me/ydd513
Also, Konami General.
Goemon
>best konami series
Well this was easy
Contra, with Gradius coming in at close second.
Picked this up the other day because I remembered loving the arcade game. Good graphics, great music, probably one of my favorite shooters on the NES and it was super fucking cheap.
What are some good games that you've found that haven't been affected by the retro gaming bubble?
This is actually a sequel to an Arcade/PC Engine game (still called Dragon Spirit). Definitely worth playing if you liked the NES game as its much better! PLUS There's another sequel called Dragon Sabre! And it's EVEN BETTER!
In terms of cheap games, if you're looking just for NES games my suggestion is Batman. I can always find it under $10 and it's a fantastic game.
Gyruss, its fun but overlooked, its like $6 where I live.
There are so fucking many that anytime I hear people complaining about the high price of retro games, I know they are just bandwagoning e-celeb fans angry that the 10 most popular games on the console cost more than $10.
Legacy of the Wizard? $4. Rad Racer? $4. Deja Vu? $4. Captain Skyhawk? $4. Low-G-Man? $4. Solar Jetman? $5. Solstice? $5. Marble Madness? $5. Skate or Die? $5. Iron Sword Wizards and Warriors II? $5. Tetris? $5. Yoshi's Cookie? $5. Dragon Warrior? $5. Robin Hood Prince of Thieves? $6. Wizards and Warriors? $6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? $7. RC Pro-AM? $7. Dig Dug II: Trouble in Paradise? $7. Blaster Master? $7. Gauntlet II? $7. Batman? $7. StarTropics? $7. Snake Rattle n Roll? $8. Little Nemo The Dream Master? $8. Solomon's Key? $8. Little Mermaid? $8. Faxanadu? $8. The Goonies II? $8. Shadowgate? $9. Ninja Gaiden? $9. Tecmo Bowl? $9. Adventures of Lolo? $9. Metal Gear? $9. Willow? $9. StarTropics 2? $10. Adventure Island? $10. Kabuki Quantum Fighter? $10. The Magic of Scheherazade? $10. Battle of Olympus? $10. Bionic Commando? $10.
This is just NES, and I didn't even go that far. LOOK at all the great games you can get for less than $10 at current ebay prices. Think about this the next time you hear someone complaining that "OMG, why are ALL retro games so expensive?!" It's precisely because of these bandwagoning idiots that Mega Man is currently $70, Contra is $45, and River City Ransom is $35.
In der guten alten Zeit...
*skips intro*
I wish this was the default intro to the game, I'd watch it every time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sME5_tyRbkg
Been playing this all week and just got to dracula, I think i'm playing a version with the psp voices hacked in?
>>3274339
probably. There was a Turbo romhack that puts the English dub in.
The subtitles on the fan-translation's intro (in the OP post) are really off, though. It barely touches half of the dialog. However, at least it exists, and that the intro isn't all that important anyway.
I've seen there's plenty of FFII versions.
Which one do you recommend to play in english? On NES, I already have Dawn of Souls on GBA
>>3273969
Demonic Pandemonium for sure. Game isn't very playable without the hack
>>3273982
Thanks
>>3273969
I recommend to patch it yourself and use the translation by demiforce and after that apply a second patch that restores the original japanese title screen.
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/139/
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1565/
I just saw someone stream this obscure FMV game called "Alive". All in Japanese with zero translation. Mostly QTE and some hacking segments for gameplay. It seems to have had a pretty decent budget for an FMV game. Most of those were just green screens. But this is mostly on location shooting, with guns cars and explosions.
You can watch some playthroughs on Youtube. Anyone know anything more about this game?

doomguy a cute
Did the Dreamcast have the highest good game to bad game ratio? The majority of the games have played are at least decent.
>>3273476
Check the sticky famicom
>>3273467
I'd say so. Most games on that console are a lot of fun, all in all it's a solid console.
Almost the whole DC library was mediocre.
WARNING! !
A HUGE BATTLESHIP

Darius is an euro shmup that gives you a million shields and levels as an excuse for poor game design.

Post the one with Golden Ogre
I'm confused about Mega Man's name.
In Japan, his name is "Rock". And then he dons the name "Rock Man" when he fights crime right?
The intro to MM4 calls him "Rock" and says that he changed to "Mega Man". But nothing else since ever calls him "Rock". Not official sources, or anything. So is he "Rock", "Mega" or "Mega Man" ?
You're so confused that you made me confused.
He's whatever they felt like calling him at the time.
His name was Rock before he became Mega Man.
Just what the hell is a "textured euro" and a "guillotine poon", anyway?
Game with weird 90's slang general.
>>3272859
The first is probably a dig at a common euro dress style of the era ie the tartan shirt guy on the cover. Guillotine poon sounds like a way of saying tight pussy to me either that or a crazy bitch.
>>3273612
Makes sense. I always thought Guillotine Poon was a chick with an STD, but yeah that works too.
>>3272859
I once tried skitchin' in real life. It was that exact day when I grew out of imitating video games and popular media. If I had died I'd have deserved it.
So when can we expect to start seeing homebrews for the N64?
Nintendo will just shut them down, like that Zelda 3D recreation a few months back
maybe in 10 years?
Wouldn't be too surprised if someone wrote a c library for common shit like camera control and polygon parsing sometime in the next few years.

I played in the 16-bit era but I'd love to get know some 8-bit music.
What games that are universally praised and famous but you've never even touched?
For me it was Wolfenstein. I was seven when Doom was released, and after i played it i saw no point in going back to wolf3d.
>>3261980
I've touched but can't get into
Metroid, super Metroid
Mega Mans
everything from 4th generation consoles. I grew up straight from NES to PSX, completely skipping everything in between. I regret nothing
>>3261980
I'm a big n64 fan but I haven't touched most of the ps1 library. I have played...
>Crash 3 (good)
>Strider 2 (awesome)
>metal gear solid (not my type of game)
>ape escape (great)
>resident evil 2 (on n64, amazing)
>tony hawk (on n64, awesome but I suck)
