Bruno sorta knows what he's doing. His team looks fun to play as an in-game team, actually. In fuact, that's what it looks like: and in-game all fighting team but without the HM's.

Chuck is probably the most competent of the bunch. Toxic ORb Sub-Punch Breloom is dangerous shit. Trowing Attract and Swagger on random guys means he's cheap too, and does what it takes to win.

Brawly's team is all right, but I get the feeling he doesn't actually know what Focus Punch does.

Maylene would be one of the better trainers of the bunch, but she only has 5 pokemon, and the Breloom has Effect Spore. Again, though, she isn't a total retard about coverage moves, and it looks hella fun as an in-game team.

Korrina is just a retard, pure and simple. Heal Pulse on the Lucario? God, she's dumb. That thick helmet must be there to protect her softy useless head. At least she's the cutest fighting trainer, so she's not totally useless, though.

Any other Gym leaders/Elite 4 with Ace mon that didn't match?

I always find it funny that Chuck had Poliwrath and Brawly had the Makuhita line

Regarding Korrina, XY was super lazy with the Writs that instead of custom moves, each trainers have their last 4 natural moves, which is why you get things like Diantha's Gardevoir with Captivate of all things. Good going Gamefreak.

It's not about team levels or how many team members you have as long as you have at least 4 of them, it's about movesets and coverage and BST.

And seriously this Brawley was yrash even for third gen game mechanics.
I was very happy for the HGSS E4 buffs and even the FRLG ones where Agatha abused any kind of hard hitting moves and RNG, sadly Emerald and ORAS didn't really fixed the E4 teams and especially ORAS made them even worse, even Steven Stone's team became worse than his first match one, Emerald perhaps did well with he majority of the Gym Leader rematches, may only contest like 1/6 shitmons they happened to use in their teams when the region and dex ingeneral had better reasonable choices.

Also both Chuck and Maylene could have used Heracross too.

Chuck would have had to use either Hitmontop or Heracross if he was going to use a Gen II fighting type since that's all that was introduced. I think Poliwrath fit better because he lives on a costal city. I can gaurentee that Korina's signature is Lucario instead of Hawlucha or Pangoro becuase of mega evolution shit.
