Yokai watch is actually pretty good, but expect faggots to shitpost about it being a pokemon killer. Its much closer to SMT then pokemon anyways, same recruit/friendship system.

I never understood why people comapre Yokai watch to pokemon anyways, its not even remotely similar. no competitive battling, no online, its a standard bare bones RPG with no real plot direction, and an Anime thats about as situational as a slice of life anime.

Overall though its pretty damn enjoyable. Especially if you like 90's jap anime, its got tons of references to Lupin, Conan, Gundam, Big O, EVA, and tons of western Sci-fi.

Yokai watch will not do well in america, and its not because it sucks, its because of the 4kids Dub treatment and localization its recieved.

I'm usually not one to say Subs over dubs, I normally don't care. but this is one instance where it really matters.

Pokemon Takes place in a fictional world, sure it has japanese themes like the festival of the blue maiden, but those are easily overlooked as just customs in the pokemon world.

Yokai watch takes place in japan, wih japanese demons, japanese festivals, and all of the yokai follow japanese themes which do not apply in america.

Changing that to america doesnt sit well, because the yokai themselves still follow japanese mannerisms, Some yokai themselves are things like "Making you say sorry instead of i'm very sorry" which doesnt translate over here, because that formality isnt forced in america. its not disrespectful here.

Aside the usual takoyaki/onigiri as hamburgers and jelly donuts, they also turned Golden week, into Haloween in the dub, and everyone wearing Yukatas were dressed up as Spooky ghosts.

Its really really bad in english.

We had Gundam, EVA, Big-O, Eureka 7, Megas XLR, IGPX, Hell, even things like PPG, Dexter and Samurai jack had mecha undertones.

Pokémon takes much more of an animal angle. Yokai Watch is about spirits and fairytales that are standard to japan (also the reason it's failing outside of japan, because it's so culturally Japanese). An American equivalent would have vampires, Frankenstein's monster, and werewolves.
