Forgettable design, lack of great moves and really weird and outclassed bst distribution. From the day of GS' release until now, it never had a niche anywhere. Not even in lower tiers. No surprise it is underrated, really.

Personally, I like the simplistic designs. And natural moves, yes, but it can learn a good amount of useful TMs. The stats are wonky though

Stantler is one of my favorites,the episode where brock takes care of the baby made me like it alot more. I can see why people don't like it and that's perfectly fine with me.

I don't hate him, but he's just sort of forgettable.

I don't think I've ever seen anybody express their autistic "hate" for Stantler like they do with Gardevoir or Thundurus.

That being said, if the word you meant was "underused" or "underappreciated", then there's a whole list of better normal types in-game and competitively. It could see better use if it had, say, +30 to its Attack and Speed.

The thing is not about being a simple design, it's just about not having anything really appealing about it. For example, in GSC, you can a big amount of Normal types, more than ten options, even with such a small dex. However, in comparison with the majority of them, there is nothing much in Stantler that makes it nearly as interesting as Furret/Raticate (initial and easy to train rodents), Jigglypuff/Snubbull (great movepool and better stats) or even Taurus/Miltank/Girafarig (amazing attack and speed / Milk Drink / dual type). Besides that Hypnosis early on, there's nothing different that would make someone let go any other option to have it.

Lickitung was basically in the same situation. It isn't as bad as Stantler is only because of its evolution and functionality in LC.
