Back when AG was originally airing nobody knew if he would win the league or not. Ash had no rival in Hoenn and he was evolving all his pokemon, and back then Ash had only lost two leagues.

I think a lot of you are forgetting back in the early days of the anime we really did expect Ash to win a league at some point. He did better in the Johto league than Indigo and beat Gary, and in Hoenn a lot of us thought he would win or make it further.

So, what's this little phone quiz thing about?

Rohanite brought up on his tumblr that Ash winning all his battles in XY and only losing early ones is similar to AG.

In AG Ash only lost to Norman in episode 3 (although he only had Pikachu at the time), and Brawly, and then won everything else until the league. Ash rarely ever lost to any other trainers in Hoenn too.

I guess Ash not having a rival to constantly lose to like Paul makes him look a lot better.

I think Clemont, Korrina and Viola at some point really wanted to win.

Grant, Olympia and Ramos seemed to just have fun with it and kinda were just like let's see what this kid can do, especially Ramos with his more defense fighting style. Valerie seemed to just want to give Ash a challenging fight. I think it was mentioned she doesn't use Trick Room against everybody and if she does then she means business.

I think for all of them though they went all out with their tactics they use against challengers at his stage.

Not gonna lie, as a huge DP fan this would make XY superior in every aspect. The league placement wouldn't even matter anymore.

XY has been genuinely inspirational to me. Ash's "don't give up until the very end" motto is reflected in the show itself. After the fresh hell that was BW, I was fully prepared to never look twice at the show again. But look what I would've missed out on if I had given up. This has been an amazing ride, part of me never wants it to end. But another part of me wants it all to culminate, I want Ash to finally get his chance to become the Champion, I want him to get that much closer to being a true Pokemon Master. I want XY to reward Ash for all the shit the other seasons put him through, and by proxy, validate his "never give up" methods to the viewers.
