I use the D-Pad because the joystick can slip very very slightly up and you'll nudge shit. The D-pad doesn't risk movement unless you have gorilla hands

I usually run between the battle chateau sign and the last tile before the bridge. I usually get egg after turning back from the bridge, so going longer is just a waste of time. Going Zubat Roost/Route 5 is utterly useless as you probably just leave an egg sitting around for minutes.
