I've had pretty good luck. I found a shiny Gligar completely randomly, and a shiny Murkrow after about 3 hours (that's pretty low, right?) of grinding hordes specifically looking for shinies.

My shiny luck has been shit in every other game, so this has been a nice change.

Im colourblind, alot of shinies are hard to distinquish for me and theres a decent chance Ive killed/ran from shinies

but i found 2 legit ones in platinum, ledyba and barboach, and one in HG or emerald, I forgot i think it was a zubat.

Oh well looks nice as a trophy shiny.

I obsessively bred one of my Pokémon for hours and hours before VGC and managed to get two shinies in about 10 hours of game play (over two days). Both of them randomly got a 0 IV despite flawless parents though.

Not sure if that's good or bad luck.

when I train my pokemon if often also watching a movie or in a conversation, so I miss the start of battle and I usually play with sound off/music on etc.
I find the repetitive sounds of battle get annoying after after awhile.

While I haven't gotten a shiny from a horde, I did get my very first shiny just a couple weeks ago, a shiny Heracross. I was really surprised because I was just battling Pokemon in the wild grass trying to find new Pokemon in that area to catch, and I wasn't very far in the game having only 3 badges.
I did hear they increased shiny rates in X/Y and it definitely seems to show, but I don't think that lowers the awesomeness of seeing them.

You mainly just have to get lucky. It'sreally a godawful method of getting HAs for the most part. Even if an obvious one pops up, that doesn't mean you'll be able to tell which one activated it because it doesn't highlight the user of anything.

With Slowpoke you can use Teeter Dance and Attract, with Gligar you can check with Poison Gas and for Spinda you can use a pokemon with Intimidate.

There are tricks for the others as well but those are the ones I remember.

Heh, I got my first XY shiny from a hoard too. It was also a Durant. Nothing other than that though.

I found a shiny Whirlipede in the Friend Safari though. Of course it had a crap nature and IVs but it looks cool so I don't mind.

I hatched a shiny snorunt with the wrong ability. Also got a shiny Marill missing HP that I gave to someone I found on my campus while eating lunch. He didn't have a lot of friend safaris so after our battle we traded to get the FC.

And then there was a shiny timid eevee that was supposed to be my HP ice jolteon which I never fucking got. All I needed to RNG was the 30def I had passed down and a random even number attack, but no I get a shiny before that.

With everything I've heard about shiny Geodudes and the difficulty in catching them, it makes me wonder: What about running a Pokemon with Magnitude & Imprison, since Imprison will stop all the Geodude from hitting their team-mates. Alternatively, as long as you can target the shiny, Telekinesis.

I think it comes down to this. Who has use for a legendary Pokemon you can only get once, and has dirt for ivs. I think a lot of people look down on those who use legends in online battles. I traded my yvetal for a shiny 6 iv whismer. I have a friend who lives exploud, so I bred him one. I had no use for my legend, it was just rotting in a box.
