Why the praise?
Not even joking, the moving 2D battle sprites are an assault on my eyes, the soundtrack sucks, the pokemon designs are garbage and the story (which is always praised) really seems par the course if not even more cringy than any other pokemon game. So really what am I missing? B/W is the only entry I never bothered finishing, but I'm thinking of picking one of them up again so I can play through all the games before sun and moon.

What region would you most like to have a standard "beat every gym and the Elite Four and become the champion" journey in? Assuming you can only find Pokemon and their evolutions that are available in that region's local Pokedex.
What region would you most like to pursue one of your more specialized Trainer goals in, such as a type specialist or top coordinator? (You can pick multiple for multiple goals if you so want.) Same Pokedex rule applies.
What region would you most want to have a non Trainer high stress career in, such as a news reporter or Pokeball maker?
And finally, which region would you most like to settle down and have a peaceful, comfy, and mostly normal life with a few partner Pokemon in?

So real world animals vary slightly within their species. Take a black cat, one might be more blue - black, while the other is dark brown. Plus some have different markings. How would you feel if Pokemon varied slightly? Such as two charizards, with slightly different markings and tones, one more yellowy orange, and one more red. It'd make each mon feel unique and wouldnt require too much effort just being a slight colour adjust.

After thinking about it, and opinions may vary, but ORAS itself isn't much of a problem, it's the region it's based on.
It's a huge fucking slog, it looks awful, and I can just feel the disgusting humidity in every part of it. It's an overall unpleasant region for me. That's why it sucks so much to play through.
The only good thing Emerald really has is the Battle Frontier, and it wasn't included in ORAS.

Definitely. But DexNav itself is a god-tier feature.
It basically "fixes" how dead regions can feel.
Sure, Gen 5 and XY came up with shaking grass, but Pokémon popping out, hearing a Pokémon's cry when speeding through a route, sneaking up on that Pokémon, it makes these otherwise boring ass routes feel ALIVE.
Having the bottom-screen show the Pokémon you've gotten, and silhouettes of ones you haven't is great for aspiring completionists as well. That part might be spoiled for people with a living dex though, which is why I'm hoping SM will have a significantly amount of new Pokémon, AND have this feature, it's literally the best shit since Day/Night in making the regions feel like actual places.
You can also see certain stats, held items, abilities and gender of a Pokémon you're sneaking up on, and they even have a good chance of having their hidden ability.
It also increases the shiny rate by a very good amount from my experience.
It does so many good things and very well, it makes ORAS worth buying for DexNav alone.
As much as I enjoyed BF, I find DexNav to be far superior as a feature, not that I wouldn't love both in the same game, but we all know GF is shit.
So why the fuck do people still shit on ORAS and wank RSE? People even have the gall to say RS are somehow better.
