Because Gen 1 and 2 were extremely close. Most of the pokemon in Gen 2 were designed at the same time as gen 1 ones. Besides, Gen 2 was supposed to be the end of the franchise, what with you returning to Kanto (only gen that has this) and ending with you fighting the player character from Gen 1.

Haven't played SuperMD, but I read something about being able to recruit Ekans through Gengar but not Medicham. That could be a reference to the Medicham from Meanies changing teams, and there is also the fact that Meanies' Medicham was abandoned in a dungeon and could have felt betrayed.

Considering how the new dex works, does this picture disprove Ledian getting a mega?
The dex is said to include different forms alongside its evolutions. Wouldn't that mean this would have another spot past where Ledian is supposed to be?
