Is that confirmed? I thought with the tiny scale of the map, many references to Kanto, all the unresolved shit in Kalos, the whole 20th anniversary thing and the recent discussions of an "everywhere in one game" idea, it was pretty likely there'll be somewhere else to travel to?

They're taking advantage of the fact that these games are 3D now. In 2D this design wouldn't have worked nearly as well because of size limits.

Think about it. Those types where paired with the starters then removed for a reason. Another leak that mentions some Pokemon have different appearances has seemingly come true. It mentions that the starters will have alternate day/night evolutions which could be the secret they are talking about that the starters have. They also mention it takes up 1 pokedex slot

No, Hyper Training deals with IVs. You can see in the Pikachu part in the video that its IVs go from imperfect to 31. And the site states it's something that hasn't been possible before so it's definitely IVs.

The trail captains arent battles, they're quests like finding stuff, with an extra battle at the end with the totem pokemon
Essentially, the islands themselves are gyms, trail captians are gym trainers and Kahunas are gym leaders

I would actually like a mechanic like Persona 3/4 social links where you can hang out with and befriend gym leaders or other notable NPCs, maybe unlocking TMs or trade pokemon that way. It wouldn't even have to be for waifu reasonsthough it would also be for waifu reasons.
