They were playing it too safe. They had plenty of opportunities to take risks, like more conflict with Ash, Eevee NOT going the obvious Sylveon route, Pancham evolving and struggling, or not contests altogether. Especially without battles.
I don't mind the redesign either but the makeover came off as forced.
I still feel she had some good moments like the crossdressing episode, but overall this season was only worth it for its battles.

So how will this thing evolve? Will they keep the evolution the same, or will they change the way it evolves. Theres no ice stone either. Will it be location based like Glaceon?
Besides Feebas, I can't think of any other pokemon that has had its evolution method changed, and Feebas was a special case since contests weren't in each game.

This is just some information that hasn't been revealed yet. It's up to you whether you want to believe it or not.
- The starters' types are Fire/Dark, Water/Fairy, and Grass/Flying. The concept art leak is 100% true.
- Minior will not evolve. When its Shields Down ability breaks, it will boost its Attacks and Speed, also decreasing its Defenses.
- Pikipek will evolve into a fast physical attacker. Examples of moves it will learn through level up are Bullet Seed and Fury Attack. It's evolution will be shown soon.
- Oricorio does not change stats within forms. Think Castform in terms of learnset.
- Wimpod will evolve into a Water/Poison.
- Bounsweet will evolve into a Grass/Fairy.
- There will be a new mushroom Pokemon to be revealed soon.
- A gift Pokemon can be received within some time after the games' release.
- There is a guardian deity per major island.
- There are over a dozen more new Alolan variants of older Pokemon.
- An Ice/Ghost Pokemon will be revealed soon.
- Past characters will return post-game.
- There is an island that is only accessible post-game.
- There are around 90 new Pokemon in this region with the Alolan Pokedex containing around 300 Pokemon.
- A new Water-type and a new Dark-type will be shown soon.
- A feature similar to the DexNav will appear in the games.
