This desu, all the other Alola formes have been radically different due to having to adapt to their environment.
Meowth on the other hand was selectively bred to be a different shade, probably due to a sudden mutation that caused it's fur to be darker when the royals said "holy shit, this is way better than that plain Meowth". There were no other environmental factors to adapt to

ITT: We try to predict this generations pair of fossilmons.
Will it be 2 new fossils for sure or variations of Kabuto and Omanyte? My predictions:
Mosasaur based: Rock/Ghost
Ichthyosaur based: Rock/Water
I reckon both sea based this time, like how previous gen were both land based.
Also I'm going full nut here and predicting that in game fossil resurrection technology is able to revive an ancient pokemon without fusing them the rock subtype, giving all fossilmons a potential new 2nd typing onwards. Or just making some monotype if resurrected in Sun moon.
