The ironic part is the metagame community obviously misses the point of Pokemon, which is about nakama and friendship and stewards of nature and stuff.

Even if the plot of the game keeps pointing this stuff out, the community ignores it due to the possible competitive element of the game itself even though it's obviously riddled with RNG.

Use Random.org to randomize your typing, ability, and four moves. I recommend having four pages of the main page open:
>First is out of 2 (for deciding if you're mono or double-typed)
>Second is out of 18 (for types, roll twice if you're dual-typed)
>Third is out of 191 (for abilities. Alternatively, you can add the Gen VII abilities we know of as well for added variety)
>Fourth is out of 621 (for moves)

XY or ORAS. XY is the perfect beginner's game, with a ton of Pokemon variety.
Do you not?
Get a DS Emulator and play Platinum, HG/SS, B/W, and B2/W2. You should play all the DS games (Sans DP) at some point anyways, they're probably the highlight of the series.

Pokemon Black or White

If you're emulating then start with Pokemon Emerald or FireRed/LeafGreen, since they're easier to run well.

You could start with XY because they're easier but you'll potentially throw yourself off the series if you can't stand dumb kids saying kiddie shit pretending they're intelligent individuals.

I wanted to say Mega Kangaskhan spam like in gen 6, but there is no way they're not nerfing her in SM.

I want some kind of survival (Pyramid), rental (Factory) and luck (Pike, Arcade) facility, everything else could be completely new for all I care. Like many people already suggested, an Inverse battle facility would be nice. I would also love to see a Little Cup facility and perhaps a monotype facility. Also, bring back the online co-op mode from HGSS.

Sad thing is I'm probably getting hyped for a whole bunch of OW.png, but hey, hope dies last.
