They will likely be summoned to aid you in your fight against the main antagonists (Ultra Beasts, the Aether Foundation, or MAYBE Team Skull). The scene at the end of the recent Japanese trailer with Solgaleo and Lunala going into a wormhole along with the Poké Ride feature has led some to speculate that they will take you to the Ultra Beast dimension for the story's climax.

They're probably going to save everyone from Ultra Beasts. You'll have to catch one and try to fight beasties.

They were definitely planning a Z when ORAS was in development, and cancelled it for whatever reason. We're already seeing shit like the Zygarde formes being used in SM, so if they got far enough on the Frontier maybe we'll see it there.

I won't get my hopes up, though, Game Freak has burned me too much in the last few years for me to get excited for something that isn't 100% confirmed.

Looking at them all together makes me realize there's not a single fossilmon I dislike. I usually don't use the ingame since they're at such a low level when you revive them but maybe I will for Sun/Moon.
