No, they're not cloning--they're doing experiments of some sort, to try and figure out how to harness "synchro" like Ash-Greninja.

These three UBs are artificial "synchro" experiments that went awry somehow. Similar to team rocket cloning mewtwo from mew yeah.

It might be called something different and the particulars of the storyline are impossible to nail down right now with only what info we have, but it's clear that the Aether Foundation is screwing with "synchro." and that UBs are their failed experiments; each one derived from one of these family members or whatever. Like artificial Pokemon; or other dimensional things that they tried to artificially map a person onto to create or mimic "synchro"

This is what I see so far. we will likely team up with Guzma and the Aether Foundation to right these wrongs somehow in an end-game everyone-work-together scenario.

I was just talking to my friend about this.

It especially copies a lot from Yu-Gi-Oh GX's manga with Ash going to school in an island-based region.

In the manga, 2 foreign students come to the school with evil intentions of reviving the ancient evil Tragoedia. The girl wielded The Splendid Venus and the boy wielded The Big Saturn, which are like Beauty and Expansion respectively. The theme of alchemy/rebirth resembles bringing Tragoedia back, and of course the planetary relations are obvious.

It's hard to say. The description of Fomantis says they're nocturnal and travel at night to find a good spot photosynthesize during the day, which suggests Moon, but that they'll attack anyone who interrupts their photosynthesis, would could mean Sun. It probably won't be version exclusive at all.
