2014: Yokai Watch's popularity explodes. Fans glad that Pokemon finally has competition and hope it will might a fire under Game Freak's asses.
2017: Yokai Watch's popularity fading fast, while Pokemon is coming off of its most dominant year in over a decade. Every mainline installment on the 3DS has been fairly mediocre and the upcoming US/UM is a boring set of 3rd versions that look lazier than B2/W2.

Yokai Watch is fun but doesn't have as much replay value as Pokemon does. It's a cute series, but not incredibly engaging, I think there was a lot of wasted potential there.

Ultra Beasts aren't Pokemon (and I don't mean from a "they're shit, they suck" standpoint). I personally love the Ultra Beasts
Ultra Beasts are entirely new creatures from a different dimension. The people of the Pokémon world catagorize them as Pokémon because Pokemon are all they know. They see a strange creature with powers, they automatically think it's a Pokémon. This would happen if any kind of unown creature that comes to the Pokémon world.
