Now that some people have played the game, is it advisable to have a new 3ds to play it? I have pic related, and I'd like to save the cash for the Switch, but if the game is basically unplayable on o3ds, then I'll just have to cave and get one.

I played through the whole game on an old 3ds and it is playable. The problems come in the form of any battle that has more than 2 combatants. It's not too many for the main game, but if you want to catch a lot of pokemon legit you start noticing the impact.

Keep saving for a switch. I completed the main game on a o3ds xl and while it is annoying at times, it does not make it unplayable and upgrading to a n3ds its not worth the money considering it still drops fps in double battles and totem battles

I literally can't. I can't have ANOTHER fucking Pokémon game with this much gen 1 pandering. I don't want my teams to be composed of old Pokémon again, like X/Y, since, like Sun and Moon, it only has a handful of new monsters that are gimmicky and / or part of very specific types that don't mesh well together (good luck having a team with only X/Y 'mons).
As someone who doesn't like to transfer Pokémon from one gen to another, who likes to always use the local Pokédex, it pains me when Game Freak decides to add Pikachu and gen 1 mons back to new games.
I feel exhausted whenever I see a picture of gen 1 monsters in the new game, even with their "different forms". Some of you would say "just use the new monsters!" but to think that trainers will be using Alola versions of gen 1 mons and the same old shit from other gens (which aren't nearly as bad to look at, but have been ruined by too much exposure as well), put in areas that don't make sense at all, makes me sad.
They fucking ruined the identity of Kalos region by having 50 monsters appear in each route, with no thought or care. X/Y felt like those fan games that just randomly drop old pokémon in random routes.
The lack of meaningful post-game, ONCE AGAIN, doesn't help either.
I can't be the only one here that is extremely sad about all of this, right? I'm not even trying to say I won't buy the game or something as drastic as that, but it seems they have been testing my tolerance for bullshit the past few years.

Are you still on like route 2? SM actually has much better early route variety than any other Pokemon game I can think of.
Tried this last night, maybe it was a bad time, or maybe just nobody cares, but let's give it another go.
Let's pretend Pokemon simplified basestats down to a 5 point system. How would this affect some of your favorites? Who suddenly got on par with pokemon they'd normally be overshadowed by? Who suddenly has a lot more competition than they had before?

So, for example, Hariyama and Blissey both now share a 5+ in HP, although Haryama's was 155, and Blissey's was 255.
On a narrower scale, Slaking, Machamp, Hitmonlee, and Rampardos now all share in a solid 5 points of Attack.
Ledian is still totally useless though.
