I personally like DP the most of all the Pokémon Anime seasons, but when it comes to the last episode, I think XYZ wins for me. When Ash arrives at Pallet Town in the middle of the night, the music, animation and art are top notch. Also the last shot with "To Our Own Way" in the sky completely seals the deal for me. It gives a very nostalgic feeling. Making it not only the best ending to any prior Pokémon season but also one of the best on animation in general.

Here's my thoughts on how it went down.
GF makes X&Y in 2013.
Releases ORAS in 2014.
Releases Pokemon Z in 2015 and then takes the two year period to release Gen 7 in 2017.
But TPC and Nintendo demanded a new main series title for the Anniversary.
Making them rush Gen 7 out faster, and canceling Pokemon Z.
GF also didn't expect the Nintendo Switch so soon. But due to the failing of the Wii U, they had to make Gen 8 sooner than expected as well.
USUM is just a placeholder to hold people over till Generation 8 in 2019-2020 to prolong Generation 7 from being SUPER SHORT

After learning about how he had to make the trials last hour, maybe they are...
Maybe we misjudged him, maybe Sun and Moon would have been the best Pokémon if he had more time to do what he wanted (Actually flesh out the characters and story, and make them interesting without dumping you with dialogue, interesting trials, UB with more relevance in the story, good postgame, a better difficulty curve, a better distribution, etc.)
Maybe we have to wait until Ultra Sumo to know

At worlds they will reveal 2 knew Pokemon. First is Togedemaru Bomb form. It's quills are gone, it's metal parts are black. It's tail is a fuse, but there is no fire on the end normally. It is Fire/Normal type. It's ability is Flame Fuse. When a Fire move is used on it and it has 26% or higher hp, a countdown starts. Togedemaru can attack during the countdown, and after 3 turns, it automatically uses a much more powerful, Fire type version of Explosion. If it has 25% or lower health, a fire move will make it instantly explode. This works mid countdown. Mimikyu Creepy Crawly form is Dark/Bug, and is a spiky black shadow with eye red eyes and 8 of the claws that normal Mimikyu has one of. Certain Mimikyu have an ability called Grand Reveal instead of Disguise. When it is hit with a move that would break Disguise, it changes to Creepy Crawly form, and the other Pokemon flinches. it lastly reveals that August 25th will have a new trailer with a major reveal.
