The anime was originally only meant to last for 80 episodes and one movie, and they had to showcase all 151 Pokemon before time was up; Primeape and that tournament was their way of getting the Fighting types out of the way

Other than Trick Room or Rain gimmicks there isn't much to it in terms of viability but it's my absolute favorite dragon type. Only Pokemon that I actually knew I was gonna use even pre-release. Hopefully it is catchable a lot earlier in USUM and who knows what Tutors could add to its already great movepool.
