remember when rules 1 and 2 were a thing people told each other so that 4chan doesn't become overflowed with new users? Why didn't /pol/ follow rules 1 and 2? Obviously 4chan would grow and that is unstoppable, but at some level rules 1 and 2 would've kept the site less serious with people taking posts too serious and we could just call each other faggots and end the debate accepting that the debate is silly. The internet become real life and serious business and 4chan was supposed to be that escape.
>>
>>64665
It's not really 4chan's fault. The internet is the new "thing" now, and people come to 4chan thinking it's the epicentre of hilarious memes they've seen on Twitter and Tumblr and Reddit.

Why?

Rule 2 is kinda hard to enforce on an anonymous website, and I don't think rule 1 is really to blame. I mostly blame increasing access to the internet and social media.

The internet was a very, and I do mean VERY, different entity in the late 90s and early 2000s than how we know it as presently. Many sites at the time were what we would now consider to be the antithesis to social media, a sort of anti-social media. Memes weren't forced nor were they regurgitated on every platform into an unrecognizable bastardized version of the OC they were based on. That all changed when broadband internet become more and more widespread combined with the mass adoption of smartphones and surging use of social media.

What made me realize just how awful things have become is when I stopped using facebook for about four years; I quit sometime shortly after 2011 but logged back in and started browsing it again in 2015 and the difference was like night and day. Image macros everywhere. Seriously, there's not a single goddamn page I've liked that prefers to communicate to its users through announcements as opposed to poorly shopped image macros littered with artifacts.

What happened is that we got a truckload of newfaggots coming here, completely breaking the system in which they would adapt (and lurk) or leave (because that's a process that takes time). After that it was newfags learning how to behave from other newfags and it all was downhill from there.

And then you have that taken to the extreme with some people from /pol/ encouraging people from facebook and reddit to come here in an attempt to "redpill" the "normies".

That's not what I meant by rules 1 and 2. I meant the "rules of the internet", where rule 1 and 2 is to not talk about 4chan, rule 34 is that there is porn of everything, etc.

People like to post this image as if it's some kind of knock against /pol/, but could you honestly say it's any different for boards like /a/ or /v/ or /g/?
>>
>>64665
/pol/ is invovled to an extent but so is /b/. It isn't that people that use it spread it around as more as the certain boards making the news enough to get other people to find out about us.
>>
>>64827
Yes
>>
>>64827
To be honest, /pol/ is one of the biggest factors involved in /v/ and /g/ going to shit. /a/ is at least a little more moderated (will ban frogshit, for example) but it's still bad for other reasons. Anyways, /pol/ is the /b/ of 2017+, as in is the newfag magnet of the site, and the board that gets the most IRL adversting of all.

tl;dr: >>64904
>>
>>64730
I think the fappening was more relevant than gg
>>
>>65621
No, the fappening was something that was more or less within a month of press time. However, people still talk about GG outside of 4chan and I have a sinking feeling that if it wasn't for some whore taking 5 dicks with fries, trump would not have won the election

Yeah it is. The staff wants it this way, so it is. They've gone on record approving of it. Things will never be what they were - moot fought the cancer as best he could, but gamergate finally wore him down. There are ways to fix the situation, but as I said this has been deliberately cultivated through a variety of actions. I doubt Hiro even cares enough to see the problem, let alone enact a remedy.

If it truly bothers you, then don't give in: post memes - have fun and don't let people drag you down. We're all here because we want to be, and this site is made up of individual users. We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.
>>
this is a good thread
>>
/pol/ here, reddit was already a cancer on this site long before we created r/The_Donald.

If you really want to blame someone, blame The Fappening for bringing in a bunch of phoneposting normie scum looking for celebrity nudes.
>>
>>64665
>Why didn't /pol/ follow rules 1 and 2?

it didn't start with /pol/ you newfag, it was /b/ that really made a name for itself first, only difference is when people made it to /b/ they saw gore and porn and so only a few stayed.

>>65649

I remember when /b/ was the default landing board.
People would hear of 4chan's /b/, visit it, be blasted with spam, gore, spam, weird porn, spam and spam, and leave to never return. (Before captcha, remove most of the spam after that.)
Some stayed, visited other boards after some time, lurked a lot before posting or were told to lurk moar.

Now they go to /pol/ because they can call niggers niggers, feel good about themselves whining about how their imaginary culture is raped by feminists (they whine like tumblerinas, but will refer to gamergate theories to justify themselves), and they enacted the great replacement the conspiratards claim is happening in Yurop.
>>
>>65633
Well if liberals hadnt gone full retard
>>66724
People went to /b/ to say nigger too, people left it because it had a god damn cp fear problem and still does

Rules that are outdated can be ignored, and 1 and 2 became irrelevant to the holy cause of producing maximum lulz. We still do however sometimes abide by this now because we have gotten scarily good at instigating shit on other websites and covering up responsibility.

Depends on the shitstorm, but yes I think 4chan has considerable reach, such that our trolling can receive pushback that inspires orbiter platforms to act on our behalf with non immediate involvement.
