Best JB build for what you're asking would be FI/BO with either Elemental Stance potential extended boots, Bio Boots or Zirenheit.

Unfortunately, FO doesn't match as well as it sounds with BO, you'll be severely lacking in PA damage as well as in tech damage compared to other combinations.

No matter how you look at it (main or sub) FI really is the best for hybrid play for a myriad of reasons, all related to how most modifiers it provides affect both striking and tech damage.

TE can only works on special snowflake one-trick-pony builds, not really advisable if you're not willing to invest AC in extra trees and meseta in equipment.

Switch Strike (The skill that scales Jet Boots damage to S-ATK) is mainclass only, being FI/BO will not let you use that, and therefore the points in Rare mastery FI and Crazy Beat should be placed somewhere else, unless you want to use those with Dual Blades.

Consider placing points in Field Remain and Craft Mastery.
Highest level crafted weapons with Mastery is equivalent in power to high-end 11* and some 12*s, and as a FI/BO you will not have trouble with damage variance as most of your attacks will inflict criticals.

I'd rather pick Chase Advance, it's a huge boost to both PA and techs (especially PA) that becomes really noticeable on higher difficulties with enemies with huge HP pools.
Drop Crazy Beat and Rare Mastery, S-ATK does nothing for you, that 1pt in Crazy Heart is cool, but also optional.
Last five points either pump one of the *line Slayers (Dead preferably) or Halfline Boost to help you with CA/CA+.

On the BO side I'd drop the PP regen field, you're more than okay with the Deband +pp skill. Also >>97922745 is spot on Switch Strike and Field Remain.
I'd get Tech Up, and with the remaining points either Craft Mastery if you're using extended boots, or one box of break to help you with breakables with no weaknesses if you're using a FI boots like Bio or Zirenheit.
Two points left I think, I'd boost step adv a little, it really helps on making your dodge more lenient.

English patch covers a lot of the basics. I don't know any japanese but it provides enough for you to play (that doesn't mean you shouldn't take on learning Japanese).

The game is pretty simple to get your gear sorted and what build you should do. Race and gender don't matter much except very, very minor stat changes so go with what you think is best for you.

Also, don't hesitate to ask for advice, both in the thread and in-game

This is what I made of it all.
In terms of bonus PP Slayer is better than Halfline Slayer, but I wonder how it works out in game, maybe Halfline is better because more consistent.
Points in craft mastery could go into Break stance if I disregard craft.
Of course some details still aren't clear for me since I've yet to play it all, maybe that's part of why the more I tried to research the more confusing it got.

PP Slayer is great, you're under 50% PP most of the time, and with boots I find it really easy maintaining yourself like that while also having enough PP for PA/techs thanks to normal attack weapon action.
Both deadline and halfline will kick in after you toggle Limit Break, so might as well pick the one with the biggest bonus.

That's pretty much how my tree will look next time I reset, only difference with my current one is not maxing Deadline and picking 1pt in Crazy Heart and max Halfline Boost because I though it would help with CA/CA+ (it didn't, 1pt might be cool though). Ah yeah, and also I picked Break Stance because Bio/Zirenheit.

No idea. bad groups dont drop good things if they think they might eventually have a use for it, good groups do because they already know their gameplan. I've only ever seen had group have a person drop a flame unit to let someone else complete a set (and it was me who dropped it). That group failed at m7 though because it went hunar route, which usually results in leaving area 6 with less VR than you started with compared to going left with a good funjiguy.

Naberius forest/tundra enemies, coast and some harukotan enemies, and all insect darkers (notably TD ones - enough for people to spec fire due to it's overall usefulness in TD)

75% may be a slight exaggeration if compared to all enemies in game, but it's definitely around 75% of what you'd run into from EQs, TAs, and dailies.
