The Protagonist is either Hollowness or Nothingness, as both of those are valid interpretations of the Reverse Fool. Your companions are the seven deadly sins, and the main boss is either Hollowness or Nothingness, whichever the protagonist isn't.

You'll start off as a bunch of immature thrill seekers reveling in the power and freedom your persona abilities grant you, and end up maturing over the course of the game and learning that with great power comes great responsibility.

That said, I still think the whole 'DO SOMETHING STUPID STEAL SHIT FOR IGOR OR GET PUT IN JAIL FOR LIFE' thing makes sense as well.
