The game in itself is just pleasant and fulfilling. Its why some people get so attached to it and so depressed when its about to end.

Persona 3 has a very somber colour-palette, with the UI being completely in blue, the dorm being rather dark and the school being almost completely painted in a cold, white tone
The game also directly starts with the Dark Hour, which sets a very angsty tone.
Persona 4 starts with you moving into your new home and your first day at the new school. The murders can wait

Just try to describe the mood of Persona 3 and Persona 4 in 3 words and take a guess; which game is more pleasant to play for the average person?

First, these games are supposed to be serious. P4 is a game about a murder mystery, why the fuck is everyone just so cheerful? Second, the characters are all one note or already rehashed. Kanji's just your typical "looks tough but has a heart of gold" guy, because that's never been done before. Naoto's just "cold at first but eventually warms up to people". Yosuke's literally Junpei. Teddie's a childish, perverted brat. Yukiko and Rise are just "oh, we feel so much pressure because of the inn/being an idol". Boring characters. Third, it's not hard to not know what you're doing. The game makes it clear right from the first boss that weaknesses are everything, so a good player will find and fuse Personas that prey on enemy weaknesses, while also being strong against specific attacks. And finally, it is casual, because it is simply too easy of a game. You have to TRY to die in the game, and literally nothing poses a threat. Not even Margaret, since her sister Elizabeth was much harder.

In short, I don't get why anyone likes P4.
