Alright /pg/, just got Persona 3 and downloading, I finished P4 with wonders.
What are things I should know with p3? Any tips or shit?

It has nothing to do with "Oh it's not a happy ending, so it's not satisfying." It's not satisfying because it has no actual closure. It leaves questions up in the air when the entire point of the game is "always reach out to the truth until you grab it. Never take the easy answers."

By comparison, it sounds like you just want a dark and depressing ending, regardless of how well it actually fits. Yeah, P4 had problems including pacing (though I think this is more to do with the calendar system in general) and the Nanako thing was an ass-pull, but that's not fixed by just giving it a depressing and pointless bad ending ala Namatame thrown into the TV.

Does it matter if it exists to the player? It's empathy. By the same logic you might as well say "Why feel sad when a fictional character dies? They're not real." You feel sad because it's a little sad for them.

Unless you don't like the characters in which case you don't, but that's a separate issue.

Combat system is different, and you can't control your teammates. You can not see the entire floor map in Tartarus, and you can't fast travel all over the world map like except by talking to some guy at school

since when Yukiko became batshit insane? i don't remember her being like that in Vanilla P4 but in every game after it she shows some sociopathic tendencies now and then. Did they realize she was so boring she needed some other trait other than HAHA I LAUGH SO MUCH?

Izanami isn't planning shit. She deduced that humans liked lies and rumors more than they liked truth, so decided to help them out by making the world a land of lies and rumors. If megaten has prepared you for major characters dying it should have also prepared you for world-scale human-brought armaggeddon.

I think it's some unwritten law of video games where if something gets a bunch of spin-offs/sequels, the characters get horribly exaggerated or changed. See the FF7 compilation.
