I can't remember the last time I had an Alps S rank; nearly every time it bugs out and nothing spawns for the last 20 seconds or so. Last run we got the fucking Bears in the NW corner and I was the only one near them in my Fullback with 40 seconds to go by the time I actually reached them; slowly shot down two of them (holy fuck they take forever in an attacker), help arrives with a few seconds left, and we run out of time with the last one at a sliver of HP. If only my MG aim was a little bit better ;_; But who knows, maybe we'd shoot it down and still get lol A rank.
I can only use 5 of my supplied fuel each day and that requires playing soon after coming home from work if I don't want to have to stay up too late waiting for a second fuel to replenish.
I'm wondering if it's my shit connection or the game's servers but I'm losing connections from hosts much more often now. (prob a combination of both). Used to be I was able to get like 5 sorties in at least in the evenings, just tried now and I can't even do it. Mornings/middays are out. Anybody going through the same thing?

Anybody know if your Mission Completion Rank ever recovers if it goes into the negatives. I don't deliberately quit missions (why lose out on the points and experience, I'm a new player) but ragequitting hosts and a day or two of spotty internet service has dropped my rank to -7. Now I can't actually find PUG rooms, and nobody I know plays ACI.

It is pretty stupid that you basically have to attack ground when you're starting off, though. Early planes without the homing upgrades just aren't good enough at air to air combat.
The game got a lot more fun for me when I got the homing upgrades and a good plane so I can actually fight air if I want.
You can always datalink with me anon, i mostly use the antenna upgrade and High Homing, though i recently unlocked Quick Turn and Anti-Stall, but haven't tried them out yet.
Oh, things have been fine ever since I got medium missile homing and a plane that can actually turn. It was just back at the start when I didn't have anything that sucked.
I'm currently using the long range datalink, but it's becoming less and less useful since range goes up as you upgrade planes anyway. Wish that fast reload one didn't take so long to unlock.
Upgrading a plane makes all its weapons do more damage. Though only a little, so the TLS will still suck.
It gets another shot at level 6, but that's it. You probably don't want to bother upgrading it. The ammo sucks, the rest of the stats suck, and it's the most expensive plane in the game. Just keep it at level 1 while you get to the Super Hornet/Strike Eagle and then forget about it.
I'm getting mixed performances from those F-22 and T-50 pilots, sometimes they can be a good addition to the team to a point where we finish the map really fast while S-ranking it, other times they just suck real bad that I get the MVP and carry the team with a wild weasel. It's a lot like the F-14 early on when just about everyone used it because top gun.
While planes do matter it still comes down to the players themselves, as for me I still try to stick to the role my plane flies despite everyone seems to have abandoned this idea by now.
It's hard for it to come down to the players when ping and pong both have level 10 F-22's with QAAM's and both are taking out ALL targets. I shouldn't have to fight an air superiority fighter for ground kills when I'm the one in an F-15D with SFFS bombs.
Research a plane to level 6 and instead of paying a ridiculous amount of credits for the upgrade purchase you use the form, an option is presented between the options for paying for the upgrade or canceling.
Funny how that works. These days I always seem to get matched with people in endgame planes so S ranks are guaranteed. I kinda miss the early times when I had to try instead of being able to go AFK and still get S.
Which MDP? I was always excited when I saw MD1, but on further reflection the rewards for it aren't really very good. You only get 4000 more than a normal map, less if some idiot destroys the core early, and someone always fucking does.
Missing MD2 or 3 is pretty sad though.
I'm pleasantly surprised by how useful the Su-24MP's ECM is. I was expecting something completely trash-tier and ignorable, but they're handy in a pinch, especially if you're wanting to shoot at The Dick undisturbed by the escorts.
Granted, I'll be chucking it out in favour of UGBs once unlocked.
I thought the bombers and helicopters worked fine.
Funny enough, it was the standard fighter missions that I didn't like as much because of the forced DFM (which was supposed to be optional).
Well that and the gunner missions, fuck that COD noise.
XB70 strongest bomber. All other bombers go home.
Because this game is largely composed of assets from AC6 and AH, so there was no F5 model available. And there are lots of fighters of all sorts anyway.
F16F was in AH, and the F4G is nearly identical to the F4E so it was hardly more work. The Morgan is the only new plane, and it's a lot more recognisable than the F5. A fictional superfighter is a lot more interesting to most players than that starter plane that was in a few games that I stopped using as soon as I unlocked something better.
Well, I guess Namco think more people would like a Morgan than would agree with you. I'd like an XFA36 more than anything else, but I don't think that's happening either. It's very sad, isn't it?

It's better than making it good. If they did that they'd either need to make it really hard to get, or it'd break the tech tree by making the planes that take loads of grinding redundant. Both those options suck.
The heli missions were dogshit. Period.
I felt they ruined the bomber missions with ASM. The way I would have done it in classic AC is to make the change weapon button a toggle for closing and opening the bomb bay. When it's open, the camera looks down towards your targets and the plane goes semi-transparent, especially for big wide bombers like the Spirit, so you can see. Then bombing runs can be done normally.
A mission where one or two selected players that have a bomber purchased from the aircraft tree can randomly become the designated bombers in preflight for the mission while the other 6 players provide top cover, and destroy soft AA/SAMs. The bombers would only have chaffs and bombs, and no MG or missiles.
Clipping would also be enabled on bombers with other aircraft.The bombers' role would be to destroy hard red targets that are beefier than Scinfaxi that would otherwise take a long time with attacker planes.

The correct answer is "This is an experimental plane, not representative of the final product you know from previous games. Its performance is highly subpar, but it will rapidly improve relative to other planes with sufficient R&D."
Then make its price at level 1 average for a starting plane, with its overall upgrade prices scaled to where else you might be on the tech tree if you were following it, ending with its level 10 upgrade being equal to an endgame plane upgraded to level 10.
That or, I dunno. Make it receive double benefit from equipped parts.
I just kinda stopped playing Infinity. As much as I like the game, I just can't get myself to play it anymore. It feels so heartless, yet screams for some great from itself. It's kinda heartbreaking.

So I finally got my AC4 and found time to play last night, then I realized: I need some fucking component cables. This is the first time I've even hooked up the PS2 to an LCD TV and holy shit it looks like total ass with composite. I can get it looking acceptable by setting the TV and game both to 4:3 (in-game 16:9 setting does nothing to the actual aspect ratio, just makes it look even shittier) but it's still blurry. I thought it might just be AC4 being such an old PS2 game but had the exact same things happen testing it with Valkyrie Profile 2.
It has the potential to be something really amazing but several things hold it way back.
Also I've been playing the older games and I miss the thunderous sound of missiles hitting the targets. It sounded more impactful in Zero and 5 and such.
The heli missions were the only part of the game that I LIKED.
If the whole fucking game was 15 missions of that I would have bought it. Could have used a few more playable units, like the AH--1Z, RAH-66, Mi-28, etc. Seriously I want a full game of that. There aren't enough helicopter games out there and EA is making too much Battlefield money to revisit the Strike series.
It's a shame that the Strike games died with
Future Cop. That game was so broken it's not even funny, but it was fun and didn't get the sales that it deserved. Although it did have some of the best explosions you've ever seen
Well I can live with the low resolution, I know part of the issue is just the shock of switching from PS3 to PS2. Even when I used to play PS2 games on a big-screen rear-projection TV a decade ago, some looked like total shit because they were too pixelated; I recall Disgaea looked better on a shitty tiny CRT.
At least it's playable once I changed settings for 4:3 vertical letterboxing though, I'm not going to wait for cables to arrive to play. Also turning up the TV sharpness seems to help a little bit.

Barely. You can expect about as many credits from an S-rank in campaign as you can from the first third of a mediocre run of a multiplayer mission.
The only worthwhile part of campaign is that completing the last level gets you 20 fuel to play the real meat of the game, the multiplayer. And it costs like a million credits to do that, without the unlimited campaign pass. (Which is $20 on the PSN. That still comes out to $1 per fuel, but I guess also some story and a rehash of the Stonehenge Offensive.)
At least support them by purchasing the campaign ticket, you'll get 20 stock fuel by completing the last mission, at the beginning, you have a lot of challenges to do which will give you healthy amount of fuel. Also S ranking the missions give you nicknames and emblems. The last 3 missions at first may seem hard to S rank, but lvl up your favorite jet and go back and do them.
Prepare for feels. Also, a greater appreciation for Stonehenge. It goes down like a bitch in AC:I. I'm hoping they set up three explicitly different models of it (with us only having encountered the lowest grade one) to pave the way for a much more serious threat from one. Also, dem sky-shattering shells instead of the large but mundane FAE rounds we see. Those couldn't possibly be used to shoot down asteroids in anything but atmosphere for obvious reasons. They must have used something else in the not extreme-close-range shells, as even nukes are reduced to a teensy tiny fraction of their effectiveness outside of atmosphere.

I bought the campaign pass. I'm going to say "it depends on whether or not you want to pay for fuel", because that's really what you're doing. The game holds your hand like an extended tutorial for the first two or three missions, and it never stops giving you a warning message about not using any given mission's recommended craft, like it's afraid you'll hurt yourself if you use something else. You get to fight Stonehenge, but there's no buildup like in 4. It attacks you, and then you kill it. Same with Aigaion. There are three more missions that are going to be released that the campaign pass will get you into, but it's hard to call if they'll be worth it.
But you get 20 fuel for finishing mission 5. So if you're okay with buying fuel at a $1/per price, then all you'll really lose by going with the campaign pass is... well, nothing. You'll get 5 missions you can replay infinitely. They're not particularly interesting missions, but they're something to do while waiting for your resupply. Also, apparently it costs credits to fly them without the campaign pass. I hear it's a lot, around a million in total, but I don't know. I bought the campaign pass because I wanted to support the game before I realized how much nothing I was getting.
Missions 6 through 8 had better be fucking amazing.

Like you said, I definitely want to support the game, especially since Namco seems to have listened to fans when it comes to the gameplay and style of the series since AH. But if the missions aren't altogether great, I'm not so sure. Do we have a timeframe on when 6-8 might be coming out?

Pretty much every campaign character is a raging faggot, with the exception of Omega. Yeah, he's a bit of a dork but otherwise likeable.

Nagase is pretty clearly set up to be the fish out of water story, forced to cooperate with people so far outside of her norm that she doesn't know what to do with herself, journey of self-discovery, hey these people aren't so bad personal growth blah blah blah. You watch. That ice queen thing is going to melt so fast you'll think V2 hit it. She already cracked at the end of mission 5.
I was actually somewhat impressed with that line; I didn't figure Namco would have someone in the core cast actually have an intelligent ethical motive to tell off a superior. Acts of rebellion within the series have always been dead simple "this guy is clearly evil and ordering us to enact an atrocity" (Huckebein/Pops) or just completely dumb moments of impulsive self-righteousness that are immediately turned into misfortune for the perpetrator. (The douchebag in the beginning of 5 who orders you to cover him while he tries to land at an airbase under attack.)

So I think I just figured something out. More like had an epiphany.
Assault Horizon Legacy told us that Z.O.E., the project for creating autonomous UAVs, stands for Zone of Endless. Which doesn't seem to make sense, but whatever. That's Japanese naming conventions for you. But "Zone of Endless" literally means "area of infinite".
Is Z.O.E. supposed to be an allusion to the colloquialism of A.I. becoming sapient being referred to "the singularity"?

Eeeh. I dunno. It definitely has ALL the right atmosphere, but it lacks an element of personal conflict. Pixy was great because you knew him. Even the Belkan aces at the end of 5 were people you'd been fighting for half the game in one form or another.
Actually, that makes some thematic intensity, the fact that you've reduced your enemies to nuggets merely wearing the obliterated legendary squadron's colors as a show of defiance. I'll have to think more on it.
That would make sense if Ace Combat's ZOE didn't predate Zone of the Enders, and they came from the same company, which they don't.
The fight vs Yellow 13 and the squad over Farbanti is still one of the most intense battles for me, where-as with Grabacr and Ofnir are pushovers, and Pixy has become very easy for me to dispatch.

I suppose if you think of the end half of the Siege of Farbanti and Megalith as the same mission with a checkpoint inbetween, then yes, they are collectively the greatest final mission, no questions asked.

I actually just beat AC4 minutes ago for the first time, jesus.
What a white knuckle thrillride. The whole campaign kept me engaged. And Megalith was just such a nice end with an apocalyptic touch to it.

Mobius 1 is canonically equivalent in effectiveness to an entire squadron. Ace Combat 5 has a side arcade game where you play as Mobius 1 after the events of AC04, and they outright say so.

Personally, AC4 made you feel like a superhuman. With your enemies going on about the ribbon. And taking down something as intimidating as Stonehenge and Megalith.
AC5 didn't do that so well. It made you feel good, still but not like 4 or Zero. Maybe because you shared the spotlight. Also I have a problem with Swordsman just hopping on board with the motherfucking Ghost of Razgriz. I barely know the fucker.
I still really like fighting Ofnir in the canyon, even though they're trivial now, since I know their tricks and how to get around the canyon.
As for Zero, it happened way too fast. While they did make you feel really good with the ace interviews and whatnot, I felt like I just started and then suddenly I'm at Avalon fighting Pixy. There were very few missions that had tension-filled moments. I still really, really like the battle with Pixy. The music and dialogue help make it, but 'jousting' using the planes. Turning when you miss and then barreling towards each other again, it was amazing. It's still one of my favourite boss fights ever. It's a bit more personal as well.
The singularity thing holds more water in Electrosphere considering the reveal.

You're like the kind of person who will immediately jump at Zero as evidence Area 88 is inspiration for the material without taking the necessary amount of skepticism into account due to there being no official word on the matter.
Strangereal's fan coined, but the phrase "Strange, real world" is a Namco invention.
See, the genius about Zero is that you've got three loops to clear before you can start bawwing about it being over.
X might be the only other easily accessible game that competes with it in replayability.
I think the Gauntlet takes place far in the future, in the AC3 time period. Where, in a test flight for the COFFIN system of AI pilots, they take data gathered on various aces of the Belkan War, and put them in control of their own respective planes.
Then, of course, to test it out, they track down and hire Cipher to go against the AIs in a live-fire drill. Cipher would have spent most of the money he'd made off of the war by then, so he begrudgingly accepts the offer.
What they didn't tell him, was that they also gathered data on the best ace Strangereal had ever seen, Mobius 1, who they send in as a surprise element vs Cipher to see how he fares.
What they didn't tell him, was they actually planned to use flight data gathered of him as the basis for the COFFIN system. So Cipher's flight patterns went on to be used by the AI systems in AC3.
Yeah, it's probably pretty stupid. But hey, aren't most fan theories stupid anyway? At least they're fun to come up with.
Before i actually found Ace Combat 4, i was told by a friend that the Yellows where something to fear. So i was expecting them to be right dicks.

Same friend told me stuff about Zero before i got it, and the way he explained it. I thought that the person interviewing everyone was Pixy himself. I know that makes no sense now, but that's how he explained it to me.

Yes this runs into some perceived contradictions, for example the chatter at Avalon is dependent on one of the guys from Sorc/Wiz (forgot which) not getting fucked at B7R right before, but you know what? The documentary frame story is ultimately a bunch of guesses as to just who Cipher was and what he really did in the war. It pretty much ended with really only one thing proven: there was definitely some abnormally badass ace ruling the skies during the shadier portions of the Belkan War and the followup AWWNB incident. But the records won't paint much clearer a picture than that.
So here I am, willing to believe Cipher was all three kinds of aces, and did a number on every major squadron involved in the War, in addition to quite a list of recognized aces as seen with the game's assault record.

It's done quite a bit, it was the reveal of Earth being a different version of Earth that crystallized the concept of Strangereal being a distinct entity, making Usea part of that world rather than being some landmass in a fictional fork of our world.
Does anyone have the image where it shows Ace Combat Discussion/General; Round Table, and than two guys say F-22>Su-37, next image is two guys on horses jousting in the sky and one is saying "Here comes the snow!"

The fact that years later the team behind AC04 had coined a term for their fictional universe doesn't mean they retconned 2 to be in Strangreal, only that someone thought of giving it an actual name, for whatever creative reason.
There's no way to know 100% without asking the original devs but all things considered, it's pretty clear what Namco's intentions were ever since AC1.

Actually, not mentioning it at all does nothing to support or refute any argument as to what world it takes place in.
Just that it takes place in an otherwise nonexistent location.
The fact that 04 reuses Usea and establishes without a shadow of a doubt that the world is not our own is what confirms 2 to be in that world, which can be taken to men anything from an elaboration on 2's nature to, if you assumed it were the real world like any normal person would before the concept of Strangereal was ever even given form, a retcon.
I should have been more clear but what I meant was that ever since AC1, Namco was going to have their ACs take place in a fictional place completely detached from the real world.

and when you play zero you can choose all 3 choices. it makes sense, no 1 is the overall canon route, all 3 are.
hence why after pixy lists off the 3 different ace styles, he goes on to say that cipher was a 'true ace'

The game has virtually no story anyway, and the PAL case pretty much only says "fly planes in a 3D world".
The NA cover is the only one that even attempts to attach a story to the game.
Because people like real planes. It's one of the reasons they'd even look at a game like Ace Combat in the first place. It'd be like releasing a modern racing game with no real cars to do nothing but fictional planes. Hell, I even like the fictional planes more than most real planes, but the game would suffer incredibly without the real ones.

And fuck the F-16 challenge so hard, yet again it took me two sorties to do it, both times I end up dead last. In between though I end up MVP'ing with my Mirage against the same players.
Is sabotaging missions a thing now? I was in a 4 player room, and me and my teammate were the only ones killing anything. The other team literally scored 6k total, and the CPU was their high scorer. We got a D rank because they wouldn't help with the TGT fighters after the mission update (me and my wingman were using attackers) and we ran out of time.

I just played the third campaign mission. The haughtiness of the Ridgebacks is so grating. The camraderie of our ragtag group is miles better, even though Viper is a chode, and Bronco is probably the next MC in AC7.
Otherwise, it felt stellar.
The sudden panic of being fired at from a railgun and going fast in the canyon were great moments. I can hold off on buying stuff as I got everything I want at the moment.

Anything that decelerates you or increases yaw. You're gonna be breaking your neck a lot. Sanic it up.
You'll always want Homing. Sometimes the speed isn't going to do jack and shit, when Jack leaves town, get it?

Homing can help on Attackers because it gives you a wider possible angle of fire, effectively broadening the strokes you can paint while making a run. With practice, you can even arc missiles around buildings to hit targets you don't have line of sight to. And all missile parts are worthwhile in the sense that they increase your damage besides their stated effect.
Also, if you're attacking, anything that increases your reload speed is good, as you'll often be hitting clusters of targets rather than lone bullseyes separate from everything.
Attackers are just that. They rule the ground. The only reason you might need Homing is if you misjudge your distance/angle. Then at that point, Speed is your best bet.
You're going to want pitch and reload speed for an attacker. You're competing against F-15 fags going sanic with 4AGMs so you need to hit everything they can't kill in one pass. Pitch helps for circling around for respawns, which is your best bet in beating one of them.
I really hope that in the new missions they stop calling you Reaper. I have no problems with Rookie, but Reaper is way too cheesy, even for AC standards. Mobius, Blaze and Cipher are all fine nicknames, why couldn't they pick something else this time around?
Yellow 13 dynamic, it's a shame that they couldn't make more missions (Eight is nowhere near enough) to expand the relationships between the characters besides holding your hand for training purposes. It all feels so scripted that it hurts, especially for people who played the previous games. Newcomers might not care much about all of that.
I like how Omega even lampshades your emblem during Mission 1. The whole Reaper pseudonym is supposedly a reference to Mobius' brief nickname as the Grim Reaper, but then that was junked and they started calling him Ribbon Fighter, etc
I don't think we're gonna see Reaper as anyone else but Reaper, just as Nemo, Scarface, Blaze, Mobius, Cipher... aw hell you get the point.
Yeah, im guessing that missions 6 to 8 are the transition from 'tutorial campaign' to 'real campaign'. And if everything turns out good, they could even add new campaigns, maybe side stories playing as the butterfly master, who knows.

I always just run accel/roll/high g on my fighters/multiroles. Roll because planes roll too slowly by default, the other two so I can spam high g turns for the entire game no problems. It works for me.

About MD, go for the ones who are nearest to you, besides jamming the radar and launching (more) missiles i can't remember any substantial difference that would require to specifically go after one over the other. Most of it depends on the composition and performance of your team, so a degree of adaptability is always a good thing to have. With time and practice you'll be taking them down in no time, so don't worry too much about it.
I'd rank it as Flight Dynamics > Roll > Pitch > Brakes > Yaw.
Flight Dynamics has a shitty translation - what it actually does is lower your stall speed significantly, as well as increase the duration you can sustain a High-G turn, minimizing the amount of throttle feathering you have to do to make wide angle turns. This is really helpful against aircraft like emergency mission aces, who can turn in ridiculously small circles and will sometimes get you into a prolonged turn fight that you'd otherwise risk stalling in.
Yaw is ok if you're an Attacker and use your guns a lot, but it's really not all that useful in comparison to the others.

It had some ground texture flickering (Assuming you're talking about AC:4) And the player plane was always black, but other than that the gameplay was flawless and it looked gorgeous in 1440p
With MD missions, it's really helpful to try not and overcorrect, and get your positioning just right. You can sideslip from one side of the airships to the other with a precise barrel roll.
Personally I'd rate Yaw more highly than Brakes; you can combine yaw movements with pitch and roll to execute some rather elegant maneuvers, like rolling slices and tighter turns.

While I welcome the Su-24M in ACI roster, it is too niche for popular use because of the end-game planes as well as multirole aircraft.

Chandelier is fucking great too. Sweeping in under the barrel to destroy the warheads that were being loaded before flying inside and destroying the generator. Seems like a nice throwback to megalith.
Hey, I'm [ocelot]pretty good[/ocelot] but I found that too tricky to do every time. I'd invest a lot of time in destroying a warhead and by the time I was back on track destroying the cooling units they'd start loading another one! I figured it was more sensible to just destroy the entire thing as fast as possible.
If you're having issues with that part It's always possible to use that allied assault thingy.

There are plenty of skins which don't change stats. Whether it'll be good or not depends on whether it's a skin or a whole new plane. It'll be kinda sad if it is a different plane with better stats, though, since that'll just make the Su24M even more worthless.
I'm pretty certain AC4 was written in English and then translated to Japanese instead of the other way around like 5/0/6. The voices are definitely better, at least.
But of course it doesn't get a skin. Why would you give a skin to a plane that people actually use?

i played 6 last month, right after I went through the PS2 games. The only complaint I had about it was that the story just didn't seem to come together the way it was intended - i really didn't give a fuck about the wingman at the end, even though he was hurt feelings. It surprised me they didn't kill him considering the events of 5 and 0, but his entire storyline didn't interest me.
Pasternak was a baller, though. I want to hug him.
Don't forget the skins also apply stat modifiers that lead to stupid shit like getting facefucked by idols in the skies.

Lack of planes is shit.
Missions are fine since the majority are massive and have multiple objectives. It only has three less than 4/0 anyway.
Story is kinda boring, but not that bad. It isn't stupid like half of 5's story so that's a plus. Also the tank crew and the Estovakian officer are good.
Dance with the angels is stupid but overall the game is still better written than AC5 so whatever.
DLC is stupid but who cares? It's just skins, there's no reason to buy that shit.
Overall it's okay. All Namco need to do is to combine 6's gameplay and level design with 3's writing and mission structure and we'll have the best AC ever. Oh yeah, and add more planes.
AC6 is actually better than most other ACs in that regard thanks to allied support. You kill the enemy planes (because there are like 50 in each mission) and maybe some of red ground targets and then you can just get your friends to destroy the enemies you don't want to deal with. Also means you can do the opposite if you want to just fly an A10 or something and not bother with fighting air.
That's a pretty weird complaint in any case, since every AC game has loads of ground attack missions.
They seem like they'd be kinda nice on a multirole. Would be good on a Rafale or Strike Eagle which mostly had anti air parts but kept them around to blow up groups of weak enemies. Just, well, they're A10 only.
Story is shit. Attempts to converge disparate totally unrelated threads into one coherent narrative and it cannot be believed. It does only have four missions less than 4 and Zero, but those also had like 15 missions less than 5, most of which were perfectly enjoyable, and some of which encouraged replay to get the alternative missions.
The missions in 5 were often shorter than the missions in 6, but the pacing was very good. I hardly ever replay missions in 6 because I look over the battle space and just seen 500 ground [TGT]s spread over a vast area. I'm getting tired just thinking about it.
Weapons of Mass Destruction was awesome, Chandelier was pretty good, Liberation of Gracemeria is great mainly because of the music. Invasion of Gracemeria was quite punchy too. That's it. I never feel motivated to replay any of the other missions.
I think AC6 is far more replayable than AC5. AC5 has too many gimmick missions with no replay value. Stuff like defending the space launch/killing the Scinfaxi or Hrimfaxi/the fucking gas attack/running from Grabacr in Hawks/covering Bartlett in his car are boring as shit the second time you play them. With 6 you do different operations and the level is totally different. That's way better.
Also what the fuck you don't like Ragno Fortress what the fuck it's like the best mission ever what the fuck fucking tunnels fuck.
Oh yeah, and I forgot, the very last level in 5 is a gimmick with no replay value. Holy shit is that bad design. It's actually not that much of a surprise since the last level of AC4 isn't that good either, but damn guys, you should at least try. When the music is the only good thing about your final level that is a serious fucking problem.
Those missions are less about amazing gameplay and more about having a nice triumphant end to the story.
In AC5, the real final mission was Aces. I feel the Solg part was just an extension of that mission.
Yeah Ragno Fortress was pretty good. Again, a lot of ground pounding, but the multiple tunnels were fun, and reminded me of the BSG episode where Apollo has to fly through a canyon and then into a narrow tunnel.
And that sucks! I don't want a triumphant story, I want gameplay! Because this is a game. Maybe the devs forgot that, I don't know. But I didn't.
It's not like it's impossible to make a level that has a story climax and is actually fun anyway. The last level of 2 was both triumphant and fun. Some of the final levels of 3 had both too (I'll grant you that not all of them did). Did they forget how to make levels like that?
6 was a solid game, if we remove the cutscene part of the game, and just leave in the pasternak/lt colonel part in and cut the entire dance with the angels shit, its a bloody fantastic game.
lack of planes is due to them all being very well modeled all with functional cockpits, not to mention being made within a year of zero.
and theres some damn good missions in there.
weapons of mass destruction, ragno, liberation and invasion of gracemaria, aigaion and chandelier were all fantastic. and it looked (and sounded, seriously, try it with a headset or surround sound) absolutely stunning, the missions were huge and it didnt feel tedious like a few of the missions in 5 did towards the end.
chandelier was also a nice subversion of the usual FUCK YEAH ace combat endings.
instead of massive ego stroking (which is by NO means a bad thing) were hit with a rather grim final level, you hear your home city getting destroyed over the comms, your wingman gets shot down, and to boot its set in a bleak icy tundra with a haunting choir in the background.
overall, id put 6's gameplay right up there with 4/5/0.
the only deductions i can fairly give it are the terrible story outside of the strigon focused stuff.

No, but I think they should be allowed one ten minute mission at the end of the ~33 mission campaign to finish off the story. Also, if you want maximum challenge on the Solg mission you can try to destroy the thing from the inside.
And you do get to dogfight the Belkan aces just before the Solg reaches a low enough altitude for your intercept. I never really questioned it as a mission anyway.
Yeah, but it's pretty boring gameplay. If you remove the story from Comona it's still a fun level. If you remove the story from the last level of AC5 then it's just why would anyone play this?
unsung war was never meant to be the final level of 5. it was more the epilogue to 27
aces was the final mission of 5 and it was quite good.
of the quadrology, 5 probably has the weakest ending, but it wasnt bad by any means
whenever i replay that i go in a falken then go maximum speed till all however many there are start following you in a perfect single file line, pull a 180 and turn on the laser

oh come on now that's not true. First Flight, Naval Blockade, White Bird Pt.2, Sea of Chaos, Supercircus, there are loads of good missions in AC5. I liked the variety of doing different kinds of missions, too, liking guiding Osea Force 1 through the radar network. Made 14-year-old-me feel like a real fighter pilot with lots of versatile roles to perform!
And that's what you consider to be the most fun and satisfying, then that's great! I usually target the right hand four and destroy them with XLAA's and then merge with the others and begin ACM.

I think I want a level that's actually good. Fighter's Honor is a good level. Geopelia is a good level. Electrosphere/Self Awareness/Sole Survivor are good enough levels. Zero and Chandelier are okay too. The Unsung War kind of isn't.
I want the last level to be as good as ACES so the game ends on a high note instead of a low one. Is that asking so much? Though I guess pretending it doesn't exist and it's just an extension of a previous level works.
I want the last mission or last two missions to be over the top and actually difficult to complete since there is no adjustable difficulty in campaign. I'm not sure if anyone remembers this gem, but Einhander had some really unique bosses for a scroller shooter. Yes there are titles out there that have more complex bosses, but a similar layout to the attack patterns to this boss would be nice.
It's a hell of a lot better than bombing whales that only has standard missiles and AA guns as its defenses. I would even take a combinatation of Megalith and the Zero Pixy joust mission as a random emergency sortie.
The boss fighters can actually pursue you into the tunnels and ruin your day while you try to hit the TGTs at the end.
I hope for infinity they make some sorta super final ultimate gauntlet mission that rewards you for being the best. Like the mission starts out with all 8 players in some sorta megalith stage then it transitions to a SOLG fight where only the top scoring 4 people fight it and then a 1v1 fight against some super god ace that only the highest scoring person of the lobby has to fight while the rest spectate.

I'm definitely not. Don't like F14s so I don't want to play as one, don't like AC5 so I don't want rewards themed after it, and it'd take way too much fuel to get in the top 1000 anyway.
Hopefully they'll have a tournament with a UPEO Flanker as a prizer someday soon. Actually, no, I take that back, I don't want it as a prize. Fuck limited edition planes as prizes, that's an awful idea. Have a UPEO skin as drop and just make a SARF logo the prize or something.
