That said I don't know, the designing aspect has always fascinated me. Just comming up with something that flies.

It just dawned me that the 2014 timestamp is the year I scanned it, not the year I drew it. Judging by the anatomy on contemporary pictures, it should be older.
>>187835875
Anatomy or mechanical stuff I drew? This here is an illustration for a project we had in Language and Literature class in the last year of high school. We had to write a story pertaining to the theme of "First Contact". I ended up splitting from my group due to differing opinions and wrote my own. I was the only one in the entire class to hand the assignment over.

The one in the post you replied is a year old, I had finally gotten a good grasp on anatomy
and I'm quite proud of it
. Pic related is a year older. I don't think I can muster the willpower to post older things. Spoilered just in case. It's meant to illlustrate Maheu from Zola's Germinal in the mine.

I dunno man, you're hyping it up like it's this extravaganza of shittery, and this pic just seems like you weren't 100% on the faces.
Let's see some older stuff. If I'm right, it's not even going to be bad, it just seems worse because you're the one that drew it.

Now if you'd posted some legitimately deviantart-tier garbage like pic related, then I'd have a different opinion.

This might be the oldest piece I have scanned. Not even "muh ayylmao" can excuse this. They haven't changed a lot in 6 years, looking back.
Before I went on an autism streak and wrote down a lot of basic grammars for conlangs, the reason this picture is labeled "harudim", the species was called Tacitus Sicarius . It wasn't even an edge-induced choice, they descend from a nocturnal predatorial omnivore and it felt like a good idea at the time.
>>187838362
It's sometimes hard to look back at what you were proud of. I'm still very fond of all the things I came up with in that time. Pic related is a prime example, it belongs to quite possibly the oldest (and most cherished) setting I still work on, though it's changed a lot since it's inception.

The XB-36 called for a single-tire main landing gear, but it was so heavy and placed so much pressure on airstrips that it was changed to the four-wheel gear seen on the production B-36.

Look at the fucking size of it. This single tire weighed 1,320 pounds, and contained enough rubber for roughly 60 car tires.

Looks more Berkut than Fand tbqh. Probably because it is twin engine and a bit wider

I'd add some elevators or canards to the F14 though, it kinda has the same issue as the VF25 for me
>>
>>187909512
It's modelled after the Berkut, but some of the similarities with the Fand struck me when seeing that image of it.
I agree that V-fins don't look good with variable geometry wings. I wanted to give that one the most "sci-fi" look of them (it's a proto-delphinus of sorts), but that doesn't do the trick.
>>
>>187909707
Well it's a bit of an issue on the Delphinus too, but ot does have those fixed stabilizers/outcrops on thr fuselage that kind of fill the empty space at the back

FPS with squad control, one for suppressing fire and one for assaults/encirclements, with enemies that actually react to suppression and sometimes take initiatives on their own. You get to control a tank as a squad member on some missions.

That may or may not be part of the redoing thing, my main concern are the tips though and perhaps altering the airfoil to something more sensible or laminar. But the way the root is modelled the latter might not be possible without a ton of work
That said, the straight bits are more or less taken from the Spitfire wings

They also have that fun stall behaviour where stall starts everywhere on the wing at once

An elliptical wing shape should not stop it from being a lamninar flow wing.
If you want examples of a laminar flow wing with air inlets in the wing roots, take a look at the FR-1 Fireball and subsequent XF2R Dark Shark, which also include laminar flow wings in their designs.
Also, if you want to be really cheeky with the wingtips make them Hoerner Wing Tips, like the He 162 has

>An elliptical wing shape should not stop it from being a lamninar flow wing.
That's not the problem, it's that the root with the intakes is a pretty complicated part of the model that depends a lot on the wing shape.
If I change the airfoil that's just gonna alter the entire intake thing, which is a lot of work
And I like the current shape for the radiators, sticking out quite a bit in front of the wing

Can you maybe cut the wings off for a second and get me a picture of the wingroot as a line on the radiator? I think I need a better perspective for this problem.
And if you want to keep the current wingtips, try to round the corner at the front part a bit.

People bang on about elliptical wings like no tomorrow, but a tapered wing provides most of the same performance while also being lighter. You just have to be more on your toes when it comes to landing.

It's just a modelling problem, not a design problem, you see how it goes to the fuselage? That's the bit I'm worried about changing up too much because it's a bit of a pain to get right again and because I like the current look
Although looking at it now I could probably change the trailing edge without too much trouble, but for a laminar wing I'd have to change the leading edge too

The design problem is that way back when this model was first made I didn't really make a good airfoil, if one at all

>>187955363
This is mostly about making it look good honestly, the original wings were probably fine too, but a bit too close to what inspired it

The leading edge looks aalright, maybe a little thick, but nothing that would jump out, you only have to make the trailing edge more slimmer and you're golden.
If you want to keep the straight leading edge, you could make a semi-elliptical wing, such as pic related.
I would round the corners on the wingtips then, but that's up to you.

You mean the straight edge at the trailing edge in that picture?

That's just to show the airfoil just deleted the wing and pulled the foil from the root out to demonstrate how it interacts with the radiator assembly, the wing has a bit of sweep forward in that section, not a whole lot though

or do you mean the curved section at the root of the TE? In that case it's just low poly.

>>187957338
If anything it's probably going to be a bit of a mix, probably straight up until the guns or something.

This is just a really quick attempt at a laminar airfoil, so a bit of tinkering is possible

Got some aviation-themed swag from my dad. Some Gentex stuff.

The red tag is based on a thing they hook onto an aircraft when it's undergoing maintenance so that, in the example that he gave if I'm remembering it right, you don't try to start a helicopter while the tail rotor's still tied down.

The helmet is a new model of flight helmet they're putting out for helicopter pilots, apparently. The face mask is some newfangled design, I don't really know what it improves, but it looks neat.

At the risk of being a shill here's the website.

All this time and I'm still triggered by the Spit IX fighting a pre-war 109 (Probably a B or so) or the ammo counters in the Spit, nevermind that the ammo counters on the 109 don't look like that

I know it's not the point of the video, but it takes no time to figure out what Spitfire encountered what 109

>>188048950
If I remember rightly, that's cos they thought they were going to get canceled after season 4.
That's why S4 is SO GOOD - it's actually all of the content of the original planned S4 and S5. S4 was gonna be the war against the shadows, S5 the war against Earth.
But they condensed it all down and removed anything else, anything extraneous, which is why S4 is a fucking rollercoaster of badass.
S5 they kinda had to half-wing.

It's just a nice uniform, especially since it's entirely believable.

OKay yeah, that's a fair point, the film ones with jackets and way more muted colours are way more believeable.
Those are the ones I used in STO forever.
I more meant the TNG ones used 90% of the time where its BRIGHT COLOURS ALL DAY ERRY DAY.
Then again I guess theyre not actually a military, whilst the film Starfleet is way more militaristic.
So maybe that was deliberate.

Either way come on man you just cannot compare Earthforce uniform and Starfleet (tng series) uniform.
It's like night and day, where night is looking like a space badass military officer and day is looking like a child's colouring in book where the child in question only had three crayons.

B5 MOVIE BREAKDOWN

The Gathering
>the pilot episode, its pretty fucking weird and a lot of stuff is quite different to the actual show proper, honestly I would probably avoid despite the links it has to plot stuff

>prequel film but it has spoilers for later season stuff, so its something to watch later

>pretty fun film, not really connected to the main plot
River of Souls
>okay film, not really connected to main plot from what i remember, this one kinda blanked out of my memory other than for the implication that there's lots of lesbians on babylon 5
Call to Arms
>fuck yes space fighting
>this one is more to set up plots for the spinoff series Crusade, but its still a pretty good overall part of the main plots of the series
Lost Tales
>this is the one they made a few years back, long after they'd lost 90% of the sets and everything else becuase the company meant to look after them fucked up hard
>as such most of the money went on CGI and rebuilding sets, sadly, so we only got two stories of the planned 6 or whatever
>still pretty fun, and its REAL nice to see starfuries in proper modern CGI
Legend of the Rangers
>despite G'kar being boss as usual, this film is bad
>pure bad
>oh god its so bad

Honestly for a lot of the series, too, there's monster-of-the-week stuff and similar, and then there's really important episodes that set up later plots.
The first season is kinda bad for of-the-week things, and there's a whole bunch of viewing guides which will recommend leaving out episodes all over.

Honestly id just watch the whole thing in its entirety, but then I fucking adore the show and am biased.

Is he going to pull through? How does that even happen?
>>
>>188072040
I just doodle random piping and wiring, but you could go look at some of the cross section images for a rough reference

Generally you might want to show the spar, ribs and stringers and all that stuff or other structural elements that give the aircraft shape.
Of course it depends on how your aircraft is built. Say an Albatross like the one posted a while ago here wouldn't have any of those on it's fuselage because it's a monocoque

Cross sections are probably your best bet
>>
>>188072784
It happens when he goes more than 5 minutes without mentioning the Phantom to somebody.
>>
>>188071658
F-4E or G if we'er lucky.
>>
>>188072827
I'll admit having trouble making sense of cross-sections mostly due to not knowing why things are shaped the way they are and/or being overwhelmed by the amount of stuff going on. The complete SW cross-section book is probably my childhood's most "studied" book, though.

My dick can only take so much.
This reminds me that I have a huge COFFIN fetish (as evidenced by all of my original designs) but I still like the aesthetics of glass cockpits. How can I reconcile it when in-setting pseudo-COFFINs (just cameras for a VR cockpit, a la XFA-27 or VF) are universal even in civilian contexts?
>>
>>188073387
I have only one friend who's into planes like me
his planefu is MiG 29
>>
>>188073387
Perhaps just go look at some images about general aircraft structures, keywords as above, they are only for wings though but both should show up. As far as internal systems are concerned that is something that depends on the plane but the big ones that I'm sure are always there are the controls (cables, hydraulic pipes or wiring going to the controls, actuators or manual equivalents et al), fuel/oil (tanks, pumps and pipes, there tends to be some center gathering tank where fuel gets transported to) and the electric system (avionics bay and wires for the most part)
I'm shit at explaining this without pointing at a picture live tbqh. The gist of it is, look at some basic aircraft layouts, shit's almost always similar and it'll be more than enough for some simple battle damage drawings

I can only speak for civilian or WW1/WW2 planes because at least with some of those I am familar with on that level

Also question for Brady
do you follow only pro handegg or do you follow college as well?
If so, how big is this Florida-Alabama game going on rn?
Rest of family is devolving back to primitive humans over it.
>>
>>188086430
I follow primarily Pro, I don't like college because there are certain rule differences in college ball that I find make the game easier and lower the requisite skill level, which is less interesting to watch. In college ball, there's almost never a huddle, audibles and pre-snap signals are virtually non-existent, and a ton of the coaches are assholes. All the time there's some fuckin juggernaut college like Alabama matched up against some podunk school in the middle of nowhere, and the score always ends up some 63-3 massacre.
Also yes, Alabama and Florida absolutely detest each other, and aside from the playoffs, this is probably the biggest game for either team.
What side is your family for?

You won't need to download anything. The way the /vg/ League works is that individual generals have certain devoted autistic people who, with the input of the general they are representing, create a full soccer team in PES. These teams are then sent to the League, where they compete for internet fame, virtual glory, and massive e-peen in simulated tournaments run on a single streamer's computer. The most important thing is that the general show up, support the team during its matches, and generally be good fans
>>
>>188098103
The single most important thing is not to put Belka in the goal.

While we're posting just to bump: I feel like the artists of our time still fail to fully appreciate the aesthetic value of aircraft/spacecraft. They may get featured in popular films and so on, but they're still ignored by those who produce "high art." Doesn't seem fair. But, in the case of military aircraft, I can understand how the martial connotation can deter people. /endrant
