02:51 <@Twinaphex> soon I will be able to test nvidia on RA
03:17 <@Twinaphex> going to be the first time I’m building a desktop PC again since 2001
03:21 <@Twinaphex> I’m probably going to want a motherboard with 4 RAM slots (do they still call them DIMM?)
03:21 <@Twinaphex> so that I could expand to 32GB later on
03:21 <@Twinaphex> will go with 16 for now - already expensive enough for my taste
03:23 <@Twinaphex> I might get a GTX 1060/1070-caliber GPU
03:23 <@Twinaphex> that one I don’t have to pay for
03:23 <@Twinaphex> so that would leave the rest of the parts
03:24 < Vision> wait hows that free
03:24 <@Twinaphex> well I am getting that one at least for free
03:24 <@Twinaphex> it’s not free for average customers at least
03:28 <@Twinaphex> am I right in assuming that a GTX 1060/1070 blows away a PS4 Pro’s GPU?
03:28 <@Twinaphex> or would I need a 1080 for that?
03:35 <@Twinaphex> say if it’s a 1080 - would a 600 watt PSU still be enough then?
03:35 <@Twinaphex> or would I need more?

For one thing, the image that was posted is actually a GBA game being run through the shader. The shader will display things besides 4 shade monochrome GB games, but it usually show full color images as dark shades so it doesn't really look good.

Try actually using it with an actual GB game if you want an actual comparison with a real Game Boy scrern.

Is there any way to get true 4:3 display in Dolphin?

Currently when set to 4:3 mode it renders the Gamecube's native resolution of 640x528 natively without stretching it, but that's significantly narrower than 4:3. This results in circular objects looking more like ovals, such as the ball in Super Monkey Ball. Can this be avoided?

It's Banjo Tooie, it might not be that demanding of a game to emulate (Xenia always maxes CPU, so you can't really use that video as a benchmark), give it a try and see if it works.

Drop a .3ds or .cia on it and receive decrypted CXIs/CFAs.

That's not true anymore. The current mupen64plus team has people like bsmiles and loganmc10, who know a shitload more about N64 emulation than most of the people contributing to PJ64. Heck, bsmiles was the guy who reverse engineered every single audio ucode for the N64 a few years back. Also, they fixed Indiana Jones. So they're one step ahead of PJ64. They're making amazing progress, all things considered.

>Heck, bsmiles was the guy who reverse engineered every single audio ucode for the N64 a few years back
All he did was tinker with Azimer's HLE code (while making the code slower overall) and implement a few additional microcodes. He certainly did not RE all of them himself.

Which ones didn't he reverse engineer? Because the Factor 5 ucodes -- the ones that actually matter, all seem to be his.

Some crash? You do understand that Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is the holy grail of N64 emulation, right? And that their "hack" might in fact be a more accurate implementation?

I like how you casually include SP in that list as though he knows anything about N64 emulation. Also, loganmc10 > SP.

That's because the mupen64plus team prefer to extensively test things before they merge them. Unlike certain other emulation teams.

Gauntlet Legends works in LLE on mupen64plus. Its problems in HLE are universal to all emulators, and as you might expect, mupen64plus and GLideN64 are leading the way.

https://github.com/gonetz/GLideN64/issues/111

>It's literally a per-game hack.

And? We are talking about a game that crashes on a regular basis on real N64 hardware here. And down the road, the per-game hack might become global behavior. More investigation is needed. As he pointed out, the current value that every other emulator uses appears to be guesswork.
>You know, the ones a ton of people whine about when bashing emulators they deem as inaccurate.
We're not those people, though, because we understand that some problems simply can't be solved without a per-game hack. Unless you want to go for cycle accuracy, which means your performance is fucked.
>thanks for the good laugh m8. SP is far more skilled than that pathetic hack.

>Unless you want to go for cycle accuracy, which means your performance is fucked.
Odd how lazy hacks get praised while ambitious hacks (like per-game FB notification) get critiqued. I took a further look at logan's code and laughed once more. He is using division instead of arithmetic shifting LOL. Who does that??

>What has SP done recently besides backport microcodes from upstream GLideN64 and fixes from upstream mupen64plus?
I don't know, since I haven't looked at it much in a while but I'm sure he's busy with other cores. N64 is low priority especially since Mupen64Minus is garbage anyway. They won't cooperate with him, so I doubt he will bother working with them anymore.

>Odd how lazy hacks get praised
How is the hack lazy, pray tell? This is his justification:

"It also introduces pi->interrupt_mod, basically, for Indiana Jones, it divides the pi interrupt timers by 2. This fixes the black screen/hanging at the end of the levels. I think this is acceptable, since the current value (0x1000 usually), seems like a guess/approximation."

How is he wrong?
>while ambitious hacks (like per-game FB notification) get critiqued.

Maybe they get critiqued because the only emulator that handles them properly is Mupen64, and the technique has proven extremely unstable. Partial copies are an excellent idea on paper that have proven less than excellent in execution. Also, when GLideN64 switched back to a software depth buffer, there was a huge speedup, which made the potential speed gains of partial copies somewhat redundant.
>He is using division instead of arithmetic shifting LOL. Who does that??
Someone who wants to divide instead of shift. If you have an issue with his implementation, point it out to him. After all, he's literally asking for his changes to be reviewed.
>I don't know, since I haven't looked at it much in a while but I'm sure he's busy with other cores. N64 is low priority especially since Mupen64Minus is garbage anyway.

>They won't cooperate with him, so I doubt he will bother working with them anymore.
You do understand that literally nobody cares what SP does, right? Like, his project is pretty neat, but it's not like he's going to help make N64 emulation better. It's not like how actually knows how to do this. he's good at refactoring, but he knows relatively little about the N64.

How is the Oman archive a dark secret? Even I have a copy.

>'fucking Gonetz'

"GLideN64 has been a huge leap forward for hardware accelerated, HLE N64 graphics emulation. Gonetz has taken a relatively accuracy--focused approach, and this has been hugely beneficial. In theory, every N64 game can be 99% accurately emulated with an HLE microcode implementation. The whole "HLE baaaad" schtick is not true. Dolphin is an LLE/HLE hybrid."

>I would not be surprised if that's the same guy who constantly defends SP and retroarch here too

"Retroarch's Parallel-n64 emulator is pretty interesting. It's a Vulkan compute renderer paired with their fork of mupen64plus. It has the same limitations as Angrylion's software render, but it's much faster. I'm not a huge fan, but it's a good project and I wish TinyTiger and his friends the best. They're doing good stuff."

0 incentive, even if I could do it. HLE plugins are still crap. Can't be bothered to give people 1 more reason to shill that garbage.

I mean come on.. Instead of fixing some of the major accuracy issues (like LLE triangles), they create a fundraiser to add more hacky HLE code.. Can't take anyone who regards GLideN64 as accurate, seriously.

>Maybe they get critiqued because the only emulator that handles them properly is Mupen64, and the technique has proven extremely unstable.
Even if they somehow were unable to succeed for every game, it would be nice to optimize FB copy for a few games like Mario Kart, Banjo, 1080 Snowboarding, Smash Bros, etc. They could even expand on this per-game notification idea, to deal with games that clear depth buffer, via CPU.

>How is the hack lazy, pray tell?
It appears to be a mindless/effortless hack. Playing around with numbers for things he has no clue about. He should debug and see why it "fixes" the crashing.

>You do understand that literally nobody cares what SP does, right?
I care. He's a hard worker and the scene could surely benefit from those kind of people. The scene surely loves to underestimate certain people. Perhaps that is why some issues aren't resolved because some people don't even care enough to collaborate and work with others..

>>

>Even if they somehow were unable to succeed for every game, it would be nice to optimize FB copy for a few games like Mario Kart, Banjo, 1080 Snowboarding, Smash Bros, etc.
Those games do not need optimizing. Mario Kart, especially, which runs 8x full speed on an i5 with sync FB copies on GLideN64. Even faster with async.
>>
>>181817891
>Those games do not need optimizing.
Yet people are getting excited over multi-threading.. If those games don't need optimizing, why even use HLE then?

What is a game that requires framebuffer read, that actually does need optimizing?
>>
>>181818062
>Yet people are getting excited over multi-threading.
Because Intel's Windows drivers are crappy, and extremely slow. It's the exact same situation as PCSX2's GL backend. Linux has MESA drivers, which support call threading.
>If those games don't need optimizing, why even use HLE then?
They're fast in the first place because using HLE for ucodes is incredibly fast, partially since N64 games were often... not... very... well... optimized.
>What is a game that requires framebuffer read, that actually does need optimizing?
Writing FB to RAM is expensive, inherently. ARM devices are hardest hit. Additionally, the software depth buffer is not ideal, even though it's crazy fast because it doesn't have to sync between GPU and CPU. The hardware one is LOT more accurate in theory. But the syncing is expensive, and this is where partial copies could be extremely useful, because a lot of N64 games only check a few pixels at a time. For example, you might only need to copy 4x4 pixels for a light corona visibility check. Partial framebuffer copies proved extremely problematic. But partial depth buffer copies could be a decent speedup for hardware framebuffer without any negative side effects. Eventually GLideN64 needs to pull the HW framebuffer out of mothballs because it is more accurate, at least when it works.

>Truth is SP is a bad coder with amateurish development skills ('code first, think later' bad habit) that would be fired from any software company because he cannot work in a team.

Sadly they never fully improved the relatively poor HLE performance inherited from glN64. Yet people want to pretend there was nothing wrong with the decisions being made (like using glN64 as a base).

>Writing FB to RAM is expensive, inherently. ARM devices are hardest hit.
In that case, you should be supporting the idea of per-game FB notification.. If someone successfully implemented per-game FB notification with partial FB copies, there would be no good reason to prefer async for those games.

>Partial framebuffer copies proved extremely problematic.
If they can get it working perfectly for even a dozen titles, why not support it?

I still fail to see why multi-threading is somehow a good solution, while per-game notification + partial copies isn't.

>Sadly they never fully improved the relatively poor HLE performance inherited from glN64.
It's "relatively poor" compared to shit plugins that basic functionality. All the people complaining about how many GL calls the plugin makes were running on shitty Intel hardware. They're the people the GL call threading overhaul is designed to placate.
>Yet people want to pretend there was nothing wrong with the decisions being made (like using glN64 as a base).
It worked out in the end. And it's not like there was anything better to use as a base. It's been heavily rewritten, anyway.
>In that case, you should be supporting the idea of per-game FB notification.
GLideN64 does. It has the best implementation of FB notification of any of the plugins. It's the entire concept that is the problem. A lot of N64 games shit themselves. Also, emulators need to support it on their end, and Zilmar refused because of the performance hit to CPU. Which isn't minor, but he's targeting the lowest common denominator.
>If someone successfully implemented per-game FB notification with partial FB copies, there would be no good reason to prefer async for those games.
Maybe.
>I still fail to see why multi-threading is somehow a good solution
Well written GL drivers multithread GL calls. That's why GLideN64 runs just fine on Nvidia hardware. The problem is people who refuse to buy an actual GPU and refuse to use Linux. A workaround has to be coded.

Sounds like you don't own an Android device.

>It worked out in the end. And it's not like there was anything better to use as a base. It's been heavily rewritten, anyway.
top kek m8. Lets just multi-thread poorly written code and call it a day :) . If there's no better base, why has no one suggested making glN64 the default plugin for Project64? Gonetz only chose that crappy base because he thought the code was clean. glN64 is slower than Glide64 despite being less accurate, so there's no excuses.

>A workaround has to be coded.
No it doesn't. Performance wouldn't be an issue if the code didn't suck. And before you get the wrong idea, I could care less about GLideN64's performance. Current HLE plugins are crap right now, so I don't really care how good or bad it runs. It's just cringe-worthy how some people worship GLideN64, pretending as if it's even close to being flawless in accuracy or optimisations.

>and refuse to use Linux.
Linux is hardly a solution. Especially if their favorite emulator is Windows only. Linux is garbage anyway.

>The problem is people who refuse to buy an actual GPU
It's not like OpenGL even works great on AMD.. Although, N64 is such an old system, I'd be shocked if AMD cards struggled in performance.

> Also, emulators need to support it on their end
Yes, but it doesn't help when users are against it because "muh dirty hacks!". With a per-game method, there is no CPU performance hit.

Do you guys know what might be causing this or what Steam setting I could change to fix it?

shinobido tales of the ninja on psp, there are also games on ps2 and vita. more than a Tenchu knock off to me. Does look like much but strangely it has a lot of features. It's the kind of game for players who like to explore every aspect of levels and experiment. You can play with several characters. Controls are messy but got used to it pretty fast. It also have lots of classic theatrical japanese humor. Ai is also pretty insane sometimes doesn'tfuck around at all and other times it's like dealing with moldova's army Try it

There's nothing you can do, the game is blurry no matter the CRC level and skipdraw has never mitigated it in my experience. I've also tried using every shader in the book and it's still blurry.

I don't know why it's still like this but the PS2 version is also blurry so maybe it's just inherent. Hell even the PS3 version is blurry. It's only really clear on Dolphin with tweaks.

WoTL sounds like shit on a real PSP. The audio is a poor emulation of the PSX original with missing reverb effects. Some of the sound effects were totally butchered (e.g. Zodiac transformation scenes sound like dying cats)

Oh and while I'm thinking about that if you intend to finish the game with RPCS3 you'll have to switch your renderer to OpenGL for a few sections (Dragon Palace mainly but there's a few other where it's not as essential).
Basically for some reason when the game uses fullscreen distortion effects like the one from lava or underwater the framerate just shits itself hard (1-2fps instead of confortable 30fps everywhere else), OpenGL is less slow in that case.

I'm new to emulation, I tried playing Ghost of Sparta on PPSSPP 1.1.1 and I keep getting this weird screen effect. Outside of this the game runs and sounds fine, but this stupid crap is always on the screen. If I change the rendering mode to 'skip buffer effects' the effect goes away but cutscenes don't show up anymore. They're just replaced with a black screen. I tried downloading newer versions but they didn't seem to help so I started using 1.1.1 because I saw some guy on youtube do it without any issues at all. Is there a way for me to fix this or is it just my rig being shit?

There's a lot more of options in the Video section of PPSSPP than just Rendering Mode, you prolly have some option enabled that's causing the issue or maybe you don't have enabled a specific option to avoid the issue.

He didn't want buggy code interacting with official servers. They could've sent bad input and crashed them or something.
>>
>>182057039
>They could've sent bad input and crashed them or something.
No they couldn't have.
>>
>>182062831
You don't know that. A lot of servers are shitty and will explode given even slightly off input.

For example, not nintendo related but there was a browser based infinite scrabble game that was really popular a few years back. I was looking into how it requested sections of the board and decided to modify a request to ask for a very large section, and the server crashed and the game was down for 12+ hours.

I can definitely imagine some buggy code in staplebutters wifi implementation corrupting a request to Nintendo's servers and blowing them up because they never expected or checked certain inputs.

I recently started using Citra and it seems to have done absolutely great progress.

Is there a way to enable better sampling? Now I'm using 4x original resolution but the image doesn't get filtered properly. Is it possible to use ReShade or something to enable CRT shaders for example? I'm using the default nightly build so if there's some special builds available I'd be happy to know..

But for Etrian Odyssey IV, I was very nicely surprised.

Those are older builds that will probably run slower than nightly/BE, and have more glitches. For unofficial builds, either get them off the gbatemp thread, or random youtube video descriptions.
As far as those options go, xBRZ was a buggy implementation (pic related), and you can change background color through the config .ini.

Okay thanks. I thought it was the otherway around - I thought the latest Citra official builds were behind in terms of extra features.

I'm still figuring out how to add Reshade to work with Citra. It starts but the configuration dialogue doesn't appear on the screen. Reshade loads in the beginning though. I'm using this to add Lotte's CRT shader into the mix. Hopefully...
>>
>>182069124
You can't make ReShade work on Citra now, don't try. Most of the shaders will not render anything on screen (not only the shader itself, even the game graphics will be invisible). You can edit them in the ini file from the ReShade config, but still, don't bother trying. And forget about unofficial builds, most of them are made by people that don't even code

my dad didnt really like consoles because he was pcmasterrace and played games like ultima, master of magic, doom, descent, heretic, diablo etc and these were very mature so he didnt really let me play, even when i was growing up games were banned because it is "very addiciting and bad for you"

when i played my very first game, it was super mario bros on the original gameboy that my grandmother gave to me as a gift when she worked in japan for a while. she would buy me games for my birthday, when i did well on a test, when i wrote her a letter saying i missed her. the gameboy gave me lots of fun times

eventually my uncle married a woman who already had a kid, and this kid who became my cousin had a sega genesis(i think), we played that xmen sidescrolling game and comix zone alot. it was a lot of fun too

i got a ps2 from my aunt's lesbian girlfriend (my aunt always insisted she is straight and it was her gfs that were lesbians) i guess she was trying to get in good terms with the family or something, cause she's in a same sex relationship and she felt she had to compensate somehow with gifts or whatever. anyway the ps2 is my favorite console because I had it in my room and it was mine and no one could take that away from me, i spent many nights playing games like ffx, god of war, mgs, fatal frame, bully

during all those times I never once gave a shit about accuracy or shaders or scanlines or making it look as good as it can be

hell my crt tv even once got the weird rainbow shit that you get when you put a strong magnet(speakers in my case) beside it, and i didn't care

please remember why you are playing games, anon, it's a wonderful feeling to just play

BOTW runs at 30 fps in most cases now. I've been playing BOTW 1.3 on 1.8.1b CEMU on i7-6700k clocked at 4.4ghz. It can randomly crash in some places and there are graphical issues present in places - checkerboard textures etc (which actually means that the emulation haven't properly allocated memory for textures or some other address pointer issue).

Bayo2: haven't tried because the CEMU team has completely forgotten Xenoblade X for example. It runs completely out of whack.

What a bunch of losers. I can't recommend CEMU for anyone btw.

is there any way to make the "c buttons mode" in mupen64plus retroarch a toggle instead of having to hold the button down the whole time to switch modes?

Jabo's audio is bad for Boss games. Azimer's DS8 is better for those games.

It's not that bad, I think I'd be able to figure out what that does (some sort of 3-dimensional collision detection between a sphere and a cone?) if I knew what kind of program it came from.

The only real problem with your code is that you fucked up the indentation in every way imaginable, and that can be fixed in a couple seconds as long as you're using a non-pleb editor.
>>
>>182104712 (You)
>>
>>182098636
Minor regression that will likely be easily fixed. Perfect Dark is an extremely eccentric title with a lot of crazy framebuffer tricks.

I'm not against criticizing bad practices, but epsxe is not a bad emulator per se.

No, it's not. I tried it personally, as I said. Both, PCSXR-PGXP without the PGXP Features and epsxe runs exactly the same.

I'm in the market for a PC controller to replace my old Xbox 360 (1st one with shitty D-pad). Any suggestions?

Also any word on extended controller support for Wii-u BOTW emulation? been on the side lines for a while and haven't really researched it until the crippled classic/pro controllers aren't the only options. I seen Wii-u to USB adapter, are they any good?

Can anyone recommend me a controller-based frontend that works on x64 *buntu 17.04 ?
Emulationstation has some dependency problems and the attract-mode ppa doesn't have anything for 17.04.
Retroarch by itself is *almost* sufficient, but I'd like something that will allow me to launch plain mupen64plus since the built-in n64 retroarch emulators still suck ass.

Anyone know how I can edit filenames like this so they show up without all that shit/work with RetroArch thumbnails? I have a few games like this, this one is Terranigma. I've already renamed the file to Terranigma (Europe).smc, but Retroarch still reads it as that.

Actually figured it out myself. All you have to do is go into the playlists folder in your Retroarch installation and you can open and edit the .lpl file with a text editor and edit it to match the name/syntax you want.

The fact clobber still begs for change on Patreon despite knowing this really should speak for itself.

Im having issue getting an iso of Armored Core: Formula Front International to work. On my android epsxe it says the system.cnf is missing. In the NFO given with the iso it says this.

[RELEASE NOTES]
Armored_Core_Formula_Front_International_READNFO_JPN_PSP-WRG is a bad dump.
It has a bad sector.
They seemed to dump it with New UMD Dumper.
When we dumped it with New UMD Dumper, we got the same crc of WRG's.
this dumped properly done and no trace of bad sector errors.
works with latest devhook 0.46! Enjoy :)

Does that mean it cant work at all?

You're trying to play a PSP game with ePSXe which is a PS1 emulator, shit ain't gonna work too well.

That's obvious. As long as the emulator is being developed, it's bound to get optimizations in its different aspects.

Typos and origin aside, it's a very good device for emulation. Even better if you get the "Win" version
>>
>>182160773
WIN, while sold as a PC Gaming Master Race device, really is only good for emulation. It can outdo the GPD XD in some cases, like N64, Dreamcast or PSP, but that's about it. It also comes at like 2x the price. For now, I'd still go with the XD.

This shitty ass fucking console.
So I try tinycdi. It works, I can play the game, but only with keyboard and mouse. If i go near the emulator with a controller, it stops working properly. Even if I try joy2key.
MESS? Controllers works perfectly, but if I try to advance a screen, the game freezes.
Latest MAME produces the same exact result.
RetroArch MAME core still crashes, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with that.

I guess it's keyboard controls for me, huh...

It has authentic Vita analog sticks, dual labeled Xbox/PlayStation face buttons (mushy), Nintendo D-pad (also mushy), New 3DS XL style shoulders and triggers (clicky). The rest of the front buttons are all clicky too. It works absurdly well with RetroArch.
