Have you been having fun with friends?
>>
>>121537936
I completely disagree.

FaP extends the one-shot area far past where it would normally be, I don't think I got one-shot by anything in the game.

It also gives you increased weight and stamina, both things you don't really have access to at SL1.

I was reluctant to use it in my playthough, but after I popped it on I had a much easier time.
DWGR gives you a few extra frames if you dodge, FaP gives you a chance to survive the attack if you miss the dodge.

O&S AoE is a one hit without FaP

Centipedes

there's more

3 frames is not enough of a difference to risk dying to those attacks

seriously fuck this game sometimes. How do you reliably get off the top of the blighttown elevator? Leaving blighttown is the only difficult part of the level, I don't know why anyone complains about any other part.

>>
>>121538971
Hollow Shield and Balder Shield are both better, but they're semi-rare enemy drops
If you go back the the Asylum, you can kill hollow Oscar for the Crest Shield
If you go to the Valley of Drakes, you can find an Undead Dragon miniboss guarding the Dragon Crest Shield

Again, it's not a big deal at all
Knight Shield just bothers me personally because it weighs 5.5
I usually prioritize finding one of those above shields so I don't need to use it.

There are a lot of better options, but it's still a good weapon.

What's the best new player gift for Dark Souls?

master key is the best, since it gives you quick access to the grass crest shield and havel ring, and also lets you skip the depths + most of blighttown.
>>
>>121561402
pendant or old witch's ring. because talking to the fair lady ASAP to ease her suffering.
>>
>>121561402
Master key is really useful if you know your way around the game. Firebombs are an useful item all around and you can get the demon's great hammer with it. Other than that, they don't really make a difference.
>>
>>121561402
Only the master key has any use but I wouldn't recommend it on your first playthrough. You can get all the gifts through out the game, so pick anything you'd like.
>>
>>121561402
old witches ring or pendant. master key just removes some content from the game.

>>121561551
If only I knew what part of the depths I would have skipped. I have a habit of turning around and going back the other way in a fork if I get too far in one direction and start seeing more forks. I still don't have a good mental map of that area.

Forest and Darkwraith still work fine. Darkmoon is possible to do in a reasonable amount if you don't get discouraged by FAILED TO INVADE. Dragon and Gravelord are probably the least active but still doable.

That sort of shit has been around since Demon's Souls.

I don't know why people think it'll ever go away.

It didn't go away in Dark Souls. Didn't go away in Dark Souls 2. Didn't go away in Bloodborne. It is not going away in Dark Souls 3.

If you want this shit to go away, have From make a LAN mode.

FAP is not good for SL1 runs other then NG+0.
After NG+1 it's useless and it's much better to use DWGR + hornet for levels and RTSR for bosses.

it's a meme. miyazaki had said that players that wanted the full experience should get the pendant or nothing at all. funny thing is, this can mean that everything else is inferior to the pendant OR that the pendant is as good as nothing and going in empty handed is the best way to enjoy the game. at the time it had created a lot of theories and miyazaki was probably laughing his ass off. at any rate, it can be traded for a souvenir of reprisal, but almost as soon as you can get to the darkmoon tomb, you can also kill lautrec, so it's kind of unnecessary

Is the halberd a decent weapon to level with in Dark Souls? I like its moveset, but the stats on it are pretty eh.

He's basically trying to get people to shit on Menas by pretending to be an overenthusiastic heavily autistic fan. Last time Menas and I spoke, he was feeling fairly unhappy with his level of skill and autismanon was making him uncomfortable.

So, yeah, fairly nice guy who used to drawfag pictures of other anons characters seems to have been pretty much successfully run out of these threads by our resident shitposter.

Most overrated fucking boss in the entire series. I hate this guy because smug DeSfags think that his existence is proof that their game is the hardest in the series.

DeSfags only say he's the hardest boss ever because every other boss in DeS save Allant is a complete pushover in comparison.

And Flamelurker is the only boss aside from Allant that actually attempts to be aggressive. And no, fighting him with a pure melee build doesn't mean he's automatically hard. He's easy as hell to side dodge and punish his highly telegraphed "hand AoE" attacks.

Basically head straight for rickert, then release griggs, too. The entirety of the game can be cheesed with soul arrows; you have even more room to breath if you're not going pure spells and will have an actual weapon. Rush for the dark sorceries once they're available.

So, what exactly is the Dark Hand? Is it a spell? Is Kaathe beefing up your humanity so you can do magic with it?

It took me a good 3 or 4 tries to get her. I wound up summoning Steelheart Ellie to get her to take some aggro. She wound up surviving the fight. Not as hard of a boss fight as I thought it was going to be.

Sinh took me a lot longer, but after beating him I felt absolutely elated. Having Edde certainly helped though.
>>
>>121585842
You can, just do a running attack, should stunlock him in one hit.

If you want the sword, just get a lightning halberd, wait until Seath gets really close (close enough that he is about to attack), break the crystal and while he staggers run to his back a hit the tail near the end.

Remeber to be below 25% load.

You can also stagger him with a headshot, that will stop the buff

For Seath, you're doing it wrong. That fight is about getting in and out at the right moments. Once you break the crystal, run down and stay close to his belly, right in the front, he'll most likely do the crystal wave attack, then you move to the side of his belly, and it won't hit you. You can get a lot of hits in that way, but as soon as his attack is over, get the fuck out of there because he'll hit you with the next one.

After he's done attacking, just run straight to his belly, and once again he'll do the wave, move to the side again and repeat. If you have nice damage output you can kill him right after you break the crystal.

I'm thinking of making a Str or Str/Faith build (ds1 and ds2). However I'd like to know if the investment in faith is worth it (buffs and heals). I like the idea of having buffs etc. but I feel I would be stretching too thin with the stats.

Is the buff damage worth the loss of survivability (HP/Stamina)? I'm strictly speaking of PvE here as I'm too new for PvP. Can someone who've played those builds can provide some input?
>>
>>121588780
By the end of the game you should have near 40 end, vit, str and faith, so you won't be losing much
>>
>>121588780
Dude you dont need viability in pve, holy shit.
>>
>>121588780
Since you're strictly speaking of pve honestly the faith investment is worth it by a large margin. People may attest to quality builds being good, and they can be, but they do less damage than their infused/buffed brethren. You have a lot of variety with investing in just faith as well. Pyromancies/miracles everywhere, you can attack with elements and most everything is weak to lightning save for eleum loyce. That place is trashed by fire. And with the faith investment you could honestly choose to do some int as well.

I'm tanky as shit, like 900 defense physical everywhere. And 250 elemental as well due to +10 drakekeepers set and what not. And that's with 30 fth/int and the rest investment into hitting soft caps on other various things regarding strength related weaponry. My thing was investing in 30 faith for healing, getting like 22 atn later on, and getting 30 int only after I felt I was tanky enough. You should have no issue whatsoever. Especially if you're summoning or doing full co-op runs. People will love you for being tanky and healer/buffer.

>>
>>121588780
Yes, basically. I've done clerics in both 1 and 2 and they both work fine. Its more worthwhile in DS1, it felt like my heals did more and really extended my survivability by supplementing estus. In 2 you'll need a much higher faith to get much power out of your heals, from what I recall, and offensive miracles kind of suck in 2, but 2 boasts the nice bonus of very healing spell being a party heal.
>>
>>121589347
kush
>>
>>121589416
Just to correct you a little, the healing miracles in DS2 do not stack with faith and heal a base amount. But from playing DS2 almost religiously I have to say the heala can be quite overpowered. Especially with moderate attunement and stacking heal spells. Aside from that the offensive miracles are indeed a bit lack luster when compared to exceedingly powerful spells like climax. In which no lightning offensive miracles come close. They do hit rather hard like all sorceries and magics however. But there are indeed better options!
>>
Is it just me or do you get a lot of beginners when you summon Dragon Covenant fuckers?
>>
>>121590026
What? I'm pretty sure all healing miracles scale with fth, doing the listed HP heal at required FTH.

Requirement does not mean scaling though, and is improper terminology. Scaling with imply it becomes stronger the higher the user's faith, whereas meeting the requirement would do as intended for the spell. And you can simply spam spices to get the requirement of the spell lower to have the same intended effect.

DaS1 btw, but it also happens in 2/DeS. I don't think it's about winning or losing, I win most of my fights anyway. It's not that I don't enjoy it, I've had a lot of good fights & talks after the fights. Do you remember the first times you were invaded, the adrenaline rush? I don't think I ever got rid of that feel in the Souls series.
>>
>>121591895
I'd say DaS>BloodBorne>DeS>DaS2 personally. I know there are some who don't like to class BB as a Souls game, but that's incredibly dumb honesty. Its heart is the pounding fury of a Souls game with a higher emphasis on speed, and it feels silky smooth to play, plus the setting is incredibly good. I ended up liking it more than DeS if I'm honest.

I was in the same position 2 weeks ago.
Here's my recommended ez mode sorcerer

>roll a pyromancer
>put STR to 12 (I think it's default on pyro) and DEX to 10 and never touch it again
>get some early VIT if you're a pussy, not really needed if you're good at rolling
>don't get any END whatsoever
>get enough ATT for 2-3 slots and dump everything else into INT
>get a Spear and keep upgrading it (eventually +10), it's mostly for backup when you can't use spells
>ring the first bell then go either blighttown shortcut or moonlight butterfly
>do the one you didn't do above
>go sens and free logan
>buy out all his spells as soon as you can he will leave and the regular sorc guy will sell you one more copy of homing and spear
>finish anor londo
>go to the giant blacksmith and turn in +10 spear and buttefly soul for MB Horn
>if you killed all the anvil demons in Sens and found all the Demon Titanite you'll be able to get the horn +5 which paired with high INT will do great damage on almost everything
>go Archives after soulvessel placed
>do logan's quest and buy all his shit, get his staff after he goes mad
>go DLC
>get Dark Bead
>roll everything else in the game with (crystal) spears and dark bead

I also recommend not giving a shit about armor and going with fashion souls and fast roll ring. The other ring the 20k sorc boost. I also use the Oolacile bitch's head for extra spell dmg given and taken.

As a final note, it is way more fun if you're a glass cannon. That's why I keep my VIT low (at 15 you get exactly 5 bars). Also can put 22 into END if you want exactly 4 bars of stamina and more weight for armor. The Bfly Horn costs only 1 stam bar per poke so it's very cheap in that regard and very very strong with high INT. Not that you'll care, spells themselves are even more ridiculous.
>>
>>121592174
>Do you remember the first times you were invaded, the adrenaline rush? I don't think I ever got rid of that feel in the Souls series.

lf it's a good rush that's great. lt's the rush of winning (win about 4 out of 5 fights on any of the 4 characters) against other great pIayers. lt's great to win most of the time but it's more fun to be the guy bowing over you when you Iose rather than be the

>NO NO NO

guy to make you feeI bad just because l happen to be a IittIe better. lt's fun seeing famiIiar pIayers and having that bow and respect. The rush is there in a fun way!

>>
>>121597747
Rolling has been overhauled for Dark Souls II. In the previous game, roll speed was divided into three distinct classes, depending on your character's equip load. Your character's rolling speed and distance would drastically change if you fell under one of the three limits- 100% equip load, 50% equip load, and 25% equip load.

In Dark Souls II, however, rolling has only one hard limit at 70%. All rolling below that will have the same animation, but as your equip load decreases, your roll speed and distance will gradually increase. Attempting to roll with over 70% equip load will result in a "fat roll", with its own, slower, animation. Equipping more than 100% of your character's equip load will gradually slow your character's walking and sprinting speed, and equipping more than 120% will make rolling and sprinting impossible. However, even above 120% equip load, one can always perform rolling attacks and backstep attacks.

Both of those are because their worlds were overlapping with yours at the time. They're not phantoms, they genuinely inhabit the same plane as you for that timeframe.

>Why are there black knights in the asylum when you go back to it?

I always assumed this one was because you killed the Asylum Demon. The undead are sent to the asylum to rot until the end of time, they're not supposed to be able to leave. By killing the demon you open the way for others to jump ship too, and the black knights settle in to kill anyone else who tries.

Right why the fuck would Lautrec hollow after being killed once? He clearly still had shit to do he was chilling out with 2 other dudes, hardly looks like the kind of guy to just give up after dying once.
He also spent an unknown amount of time in a prison cell that didn't effect him, but no getting invaded once was clearly too much for him.

Did a single item ever say that?
Did you watch vaatis video and just took everything he said at face value?

Time travel is consistent as fuck in DS2, you are literally going into memories, nothing you do in the past has any effect on what happened to the world because you are not changing anything, you are literally in the made up world of someones brain.

That's like saying "how do magic works?" and expecting some guy to explain how magic works with quantum physics.

The time travel and worlds overlapping works, because it's a fucking video game and they explain that it "just works" in this video game fantasy world. At least in das1 they had the courtesy to tell you how it is and had in game reasons for time travel, soapstones, and worlds connecting. In das2 they don't explain anything, and they fuck up their own time travel by switching between time travel theories a shitton. They go from "many worlds/universes" theory, to butterfly effect theory, to paradox theory, to "whatever you do in the past doesn't change the future, because the effects of the past were already like that" (can't really explain too well, but think PtDE. Going back and killing artorias doesn't change the future, because in the past your character went back in time and killed artorias).

The events of ds1 are happening because it's assumed the player has played the dlc. If you skip it, that doesn't make it a paradox. That's like saying "if I exit the game after killing gwyn then no serpent wins because I didn't choose an ending" or "how can I kill gwyn if thousands of other players already killed him?"

If you want a reason to fit this then you can interpret it as, your character isn't actually the chosen undead, or another person in the world killed manus and let artorias take the glory but he was not able to link the fires.

You did not kill Manus so the events of the game could not have happened.
Seriously do you not know what a grandfather paradox is?

If someone else halted the spread of the abyss in the same timeframe as your character (it couldn't have been much later because then the future world would have been different) then why do you never meet them?

I'm asking why you didn't meet then when you went back in time?

There either was someone else that stopped the spread of the abyss at the same time as you would have, ergo you should have met them in the DLC OR there was nobody else and its a time paradox.
And even if there was someone else that would have stopped the spread of the abyss the would would have been different if he showed up and there was no abyss.

You can try to handwave this as much as you want to it still a time paradox.

You either stop the spread of the abyss and the world the game takes place it happens

By your logic, you should be able to meet chester in your timeline since you see him in the past. The guy who killed manus could be a time traveller (like yourself) but from a time really far in the future, after you have already hollowed/died, or he could have killed manus before you were born.

Reminder that gywn linked the first flame at least 1000 years ago (well actually even longer, since the witch of izalith tried to relink the flames 1000 years ago and the tragedy of izalith occured), so the events of oolacile were not long after.

Just because a land was famous does not mean it is impossible for someone to exist somewhere else in the world who had never head of it

Your whole logic falls on the butterfly effect theory. The world could be the same because some guy 500 years into the future went back in time and stopped the spread of the abyss. So even though he lives 500 years in the future, the world will remain the same because the events of the past already happened.

there is no canon counter that decides how many deaths it takes for an individual to hollow, I don't know what you're trying to imply.

>>
>>121620934
It seems that Gwyn made it, since it looks like he also made the gold fog gates that the lordvessel unlocks. Personally, I don't think that he considered the possibility that someone would make it in who DIDN'T want to link the flame, since his plan revolved around Frampt guiding them. So the door was meant to keep plebs out so only individuals with BALLS would be able to get in and link the flame -- and I guess that the process of collecting the lord souls would make you plenty strong enough.

This is all speculation, of course

Thast right we know nothing, ergo its 100% bullshit that they somehow had a full army in plate before fighting the dragons and making civilization as we know it.
>irrelevant, what's important is that he was
Very relevant, the dragons were by their very nature unchanging undying things that had always existed, why one is different is an important plot point, either the narrator is lying about the dragons or seath is not a dragon or whatever else excuse, as it stands the intro contradicts itself.

You are still to cover how Nito was able to hurt a dragon through its scales.

Why there was a different guy in a race of dragons that were granted immortality by their scales who somehow came to exist AFTER the other dragons (had be been around since the start of time he should have died of old age before the lords discovered the souls)
Where did Seath come from?

Again the answer is "it doesn't matter" but since you assholes are so angry over the DS2 intro I have to bring this shit up.
>>
>>121621380
>you go down from Lordran to reach the Greylands
oh, so you mean Ash Lake. Please be specific in the future. Furthermore, the treetops of the "greylands" would still count as Dragon Territory, and are still therefore worth fighting over

By the fact that we know nothing, it's pretty stupid (by definition) to claim that they definitively didn't have the materials to make an army, because again, by definition, we didn't know what they had.
>my little anon can't possibly be this bad at logic!

>implying that Seath isn't unchanging and undying
he just isn't literally invincible since he doesn't have scales

the capitalized part of your sentence is where you fucked up, since Gwyn had stripped them of their scales before Nito did his thing.

>By the fact that we know nothing, it's pretty stupid (by definition) to claim that they definitively didn't have the materials to make an army, because again, by definition, we didn't know what they had.
So this is back to the original point, why did they bother attacking the dragons
Why is slaying the dragons the start of the "age of fire" when clearly they had enough civlization to outfit an entire army with plate, weapons and even cloaks for the witches?
>he just isn't literally invincible since he doesn't have scales
Right so were the dragons granted immortality by their scales or not?
If they were then Seath should have been dead before the lords came about, if they did not why bring up peeling them off in the first place?

Oh so they are just going to fly through the ground and the fucking miles of earth?

Yeah that sounds totally plausible, just out of curiosity, are those dragons or moles that we are talking about here?

The dragons have no physical way short of digging through miles of earth to get to the surface world, also why would they give a fuck in the first place?
They clearly didn't care when Gwyn&Co raised an entire fucking army would would they care about what those assholes did on the surface where the dragons cant even see them?

Is this a question? I haven't gotten banned for spawning in many items, just don't be shitty about it

For instance if you're doing a low SL invader don't spawn in a +10 uchi

Don't spawn in an ashen mist or other key items, if you haven't progressed past a certain point and have those items you can get banned

If you just want a stack of 99 red eyes you will not get banned. just don't spawn in like a weapon that is past the upgrade limit (no plus 10 weapons that normally are just +5)

Alternatively, you can claim that the Archtrees that we see in Ash Lake AREN'T the same ones as the ones in the intro, since the intro has solid ground below the trees, and the Witch burned all the dragon's trees to the ground.

It could be that the world itself is held up by Archrees, that exist BENEATH the archtrees that the lords new about, and the reason why Ash Lake and the Stone Dragon survive is because the Lords never thought to check literally under the entire world when they were conducting their purges

How would trading work, they have airships we don't know about?
Do different kingdoms go down into the graylands, get on giant boats, sail over to other trees get off and trade their shit?

I mean that actually sounds like an interesting premise but there is NOTHING in the game to support the idea of a world like that.

Well considering you can see the great hollow from firelink extending well above lordran, you can see over the edge of lordran from many points in the game (but most notably in sens fortress), you can see blighttown from firelink, and going into the great hollow and going down you end up at a ginormous "lake" surrounded by smaller trees with clouds all around. While your version makes sense as well, it's worth noting that in the OP of the game, there is no ocean, therefore it's a good bet to assume that the archtrees in Ash Lake AREN'T the archtrees that the Lords burnt down. in that fun little cinematic, add in a few dotted lines on the surface of what you'd label as "the normal world," and these would represent the destroyed archtrees that existed during the Age of Ancients

So what you're saying is. Under the "crust" of the earth that is in the dark souls universe, instead of layers of mantles and core, we have a layer of lake, and then a "core" type thing that grows arch trees, and those arch trees extend and go through the lake layer up into the crust?

So what you're saying is, it's completely illogical for land to float, or for chunks of land to be on separate trees, but it's totally okay to just have a giant layer of water that is suspended between the core and the "crust"?

So I'm a bit confused by Demon's Souls weapon upgrade paths.

I'm making a strength character, is crushing the way to go, or should I go with just upgrading it normally, or is quality better?

For some reason, and nobody knows this reason, UGS overhead swings go by the direction your character is moving, rather than where you are looking.

UGSes are still very usable in PvE but they WILL get your ass killed because of that bullshit, you either learn to live with it, powerstance them or just give up and not use them.

>New to Demon's Souls
>See that shattered Arch Stone for the first time
>Guess I'll repair it later
>Look it up out of curiosity
>It was originally meant to be the stone that took you to the land where that fucking sweet wallpaper they showed with the giant demons was
>Snowy land with a castle and some NPCs
>Snake, owl, and other animal people who fuck you up

This is so cool, I would have loved to have seen it implimented, but it almost adds more to the game by being cut, and having people speculate. Sort of like how Shadow of the Colossus was originally meant to have 24 colossi, and whole other areas, like the this huge fucking dam that you can only get to by cheating, it just adds an extra layer for people to explore and speculate on, and it's great.

Dat rolling poke though, when you learn to aim unlocked (and you need to to use the UGS) it is fucking deadly. Plus the overhead hits back and front if someone is close enough.

>>121632471
>Locked

Forget about it. Learn to aim unlocked. You can direct the second upwards even locked though.
>>
>>121632471
Welcome to the wonderful lock-on system of DaS2, which doesn't actually cause you to face your opponent. Because y'know, it's not like you're using lock-on to keep you facing the target in the first place.

Did I accidentally ruin Dark Souls for myself by playing Dark Souls 2 first? Like, it obviously isn't a bad game, but god damn, it feels so terrible to play.

My backwards rolls get interpreted as side rolls, I've had rolls get turned into forward rolls, and the framerate lock turns my stomach (apparently unlocking it via DSfix causes nasty physics issues, so it seems like either way it's fucked).

Am I missing something or is the game just fucked up compared to DS2?

I think I'd rather have an extra world to play to be honest

Demon's Souls is an amazing game and it still has some of the best locales in the series

But it does what the fuck are you spirting or rolling away?

Goddamn anon at least hate the game for actual things wrong with it.

Oh totally, It would have been amazing to see it, but at the same time, I think it's almost served as a more interesting point not being in the game, because now you have people who run around the unfinished map, and speculate how it came together, what the bosses where, who the NPCs were, that sort of thing. It would be absolutely amazing if they did an HD re-release of Demon's Souls and completed the area.

Seeing the unfinished map, it seems like it make have been what influenced the Painted World in Dark Souls, and maybe the Ivory King DLC to some extent.
