KotFE really isn't that good so far.

Vitiate is fantastic, and every scene with him in it is a joy, but the rest is honestly pretty shit. Every new supporting character except Senya and SCORPIO is an overemotional, immature, unlikeable teenager in the body of an adult. They're mostly useless too, I have no reason to want Koth on my ship, especially not after picking up SCORPIO. Arcann is a standard ebul BBEG and Vajayjay is just so cuhraysy super strong evil sidekick with no further personality.

The conversational options are also really generalized and take much less into account than they used to, forcing my character to both act stupid and outside his personality.

Really, as far as story and roleplay goes, it's the worst one so far. It's about the same level as Dragon Age 2.

What's annoying is that, even if you want to spend extra credits on convenience, there generally aren't enough gifts on the GTN to get you very far. The companion gift missions yield too few gifts to be more than a drop in the bucket. Want to get from 20 to 30 with grade 4 greens? That'll take 378 of them, loved gifts only. 30 to 40? 700.

And that's all you'd be paying for anyway, convenience. If you extrapolate the value of other gifts using the same credits-per-influence ratio as grade 1 green gifts at subscriber vendor price (in others words, ignoring the convenience value), then
at rank 20, green gifts at grades 3 4 and 5 are worth 606, 800, and 1006 credits.
at rank 30, green gifts at grades 3 4 and 5 are worth 825, 1250, and 1650 credits.
at 40 the metric falls apart because grade 1 gifts no longer give influence, but still, it gives a decent general idea.

These are terrible values. Grade 5 bountiful gift mission (generally the most efficient, by my math) cost 1790 to 1835 credits. At first glance, it looks like you're getting over twice that cost back at the higher tiers. Except you're cluttering up your inventory with gifts (ten gifts per quality, so you can reduce the load by paying more for rich missions), and most of the gifts you get aren't the ones you're after. It'd be fine if you could trade directly for the ones you do want, or sell the chaff and buy the ones you want with only a small loss. But the prices vary so much, and people need so many gifts, that most folks just go with the simpler option of 200 credit ones, followed by basic comm / common crystal bought gifts. Which results in a lower perceived value on the GTN in general, because of less demand. Especially junk like courting.

I don't like Koth because he feels more like a character inserted to fufill some kind of obligation from a story writing manual. His character doesn't feel like it grew organically from events. Someone in a writers meeting was like "we need a character who can represent the average Zakuulan so the PC can empathize with the Zakuul against Arcann, and be a LS foil for Lana's DS pragmatism." It feels like they put him in because they need to fit certain requirements for the plot.

Bioware has been doing this a lot lately, they put in these characters who don't develop organically through gameplay, they're just kind of inserted because they fill some kind of management/executive/marketing mandate instead of being grown organically through adventures with the player character like classic bioware companions are known for. The thing that makes companions like Imoen, Deekin, Garrus, Canderous Ordo, so likeable is that the expostion of their personalities comes from adventuring with the character over time.

I mean look at that Lt. Vega guy from ME3. Someone from Bioware actually said "huh well ME3 is going to bring in a lot of new players who are just going to skip to the end of the series, so we better put in a character so they don't feel out of place about being new to the story". Like it's so fucking stupid. Koth didn't need to be put into the game. It's actually pottery how Bioware mimics Lucas in putting in these uneccessary characters to fufill certain personality types to make the story more compelling. Hey retards, how about instead of making multiple one dimensional characters, why not give complex emotional layers to existing characters? How about instead of Koth, YOU JUST PUT IN THERON WHO HAS ALREADY BEEN DOING KOTH'S ROLE MUCH BETTER THAN HIM FOR LIKE THE LAST TWO YEARS?!

On a personal note but fuck this Mary Sue ass Gravestone. Even though they stripped what little dignity KotoR had with SoR, they really should have found the Ebon Hawk on Zakuul somehow.
