There are a number of ways to do it.

The main thing is to provide good access to the highways and have good highway networks that distribute the flow of traffic evenly throughout your city.

>>
>>121437368
It was a massive disappointment for many.

>>121440094
Depends. Would you be ok with an anno that is only about building shit with no need to balance diplomacy and military? The only challenge left in the game is balancing budget because lunar settlements require ridiculous amounts of maintenance. Even so it's easy to overcome because the whole sector is yours so you can just spam the temperate sector full of low-level taxpayers before expanding to the next level. If you just want comfy building then go for it but if you want the whole package of expanding under pressure then better stay away. If in doubt, pirate then buy if you find yourself liking it.

new anno desperately needs scenarios like power games and such, I never understood people who liked playing continuous mode, because frankly after you get the top tier of everything there is no motivation to continue

besides all that i still somewhat like the game, but i only just got into arctic, so there is some more content for me to play through, probably will do a second playthrough too, but not more, starting to get stale already
>>
>>121460661
It's good for like one playthrough. Then you realise there's nothing to stop you except for overexpanding your arctic/lunar and going into the red, and your second becomes super easy min/max.
>>
>>121460661
>its the year 2205, I'd be really surprised if by that time they couldnt grow freaking rice wherever the hell they want
>this I somewhat agree with, I liked creating and protecting long routes, but again it can be waved away as "lol future"
>agreed
>previous titles had unlimited resources too, all you had to do was to pay a negligible amount of gold and voila all your mines are restocked
>choosing a faction only appeared in 1 game - anno 2070, so removing that does not really make a game not anno
>research is again a feature that has only been in one title out of what 6? and unfortunately it is confirmed as a DLC
>pollution is once again a feature from 1 title, but yeah having that would be nice
>I like the building movement, casual sure, but whatever
>agreed about combat
>never played multiplayer
>agreed with this too

basically that review is shit because saying that features that only existed in 1 title in the whole franchise somehow define that franchise is ridiculous

according to that anno 1404 is not an anno game, since it does not have research, pollution, choice of factions

dont get me wrong the game is extremely bare-bones and really needs scenarios re-implemented, but that review is simply misleading
>>
>>121461048
i am not saying the game is bad, what i cant understand, why couldn't they take 2070 or 1404, and build on that, to make it 1.5 or 2x better, instead they re-did the whole game, leaving lots of features out
>>
>>121461190
because they intend to sell it as dlc senpai
>>
>>121461190
I think they wanted to try something a bit different this time around. After making almost the same game five times in a row, I can understand why. However the Anno formula actually works every time, even if it's basically a reskin + some new stuff.

I think trying to do something new isn't a bad idea, but this one didn't work out so well. Perhaps they'll have a better idea next time.
>>
>>121461447
if this sells like shit, there probably wont be a next time, lets hope this one won't get like 5 DLC's, instead 1 very big one with lots of features, or 2 tops, and SOON
>>
>>121461539
it probably will given that all the negative reviews on steam

even though at least one of the major complaints is simply not true
>>

>>
Gentleman, please.
>>
>>121461048
>a misleading game review
color me surprised
>>
>>121461859
what surprised me a bit is that people on both /v/ and steam forums were so convinced that this game is shit that they never even gave it a chance and said false things about it, major complains I saw on v

no storage - actually false there is storage, anyone who is not braindead would have noticed this

I reached the top level execs in 3 hours what a shit game - execs are not the top level and anno 1404 had an achievement for reaching the top level in 1 hour

placement of service buildings no longer matters - false it does, all service buildings generate their resource and the further away a house is from the service building the more resource it consumes so you still have to place them centrally

warehouse placement no longer matters - not true the logistics center work the same way as service buildings do

again, I realise that the game IS FLAWED, but why shit on a game before you even try it properly? think about it, those people wanted to hate it so badly that they just assumed those false points
>>
>>121462309
the fact remains that the game is pretty much shit, like most games after 2007. i don't know why you faggots keep enabling this horse shit.
>>
>>121462931
just because you grew up and no longer enjoy games does not mean that they are shit

not defending anno 2205 mind you, still its stupid to outright lie just to shit on something
>>
>>121462309
>no storage
The storage is really hard to notice, maybe because for like every other game it was in the warehouse but this time they decided to be ebin hipsters and put it elsewhere. The fact that people can actually not notice a storage exists is in itself a very strong point of criticism - why change something that has been here since fucking forever and works just fine?
>I reached the top level execs in 3 hours what a shit game - execs are not the top level and anno 1404 had an achievement for reaching the top level in 1 hour
Except there's literally nothing else to do other than promote pops. Nobody to fight except for joke crisis sectors that RTS scrubs can win by 'select everyone and right click', etc.
>placement of service buildings no longer matters
The biggest problem with this is that it's not explicitly mentioned in the tooltips. If you want to make such a major change at least fucking tell us. I didn't even notice until after a while. I do agree this is an improvement, though they could at least have told us.
>warehouse placement no longer matters - not true the logistics center work the same way as service buildings do
Once again nothing in the tooltips.
>again, I realise that the game IS FLAWED, but why shit on a game before you even try it properly? think about it, those people wanted to hate it so badly that they just assumed those false points
When the game makes changes and doesn't tell you shit it's not your fault for assuming. Update your tooltips or something so people know, this is clearly developers' fault.

>>
>>121462309
>execs are not top level
they might as well be, the 2 new chains opened are a massive joke
like 10 minutes after getting my first investor they were all 100% happy since it's a matter of plopping down 5 buildings, add some modules and 2 extra trade routes
in the previous games at least you had to concern yourself over fertilities/mine spots and to some degree challenging production chains like pharmaceuticals or bionic suits
>>
>>121467097
the idea of different geographic regions having different economic advantages could be problematic for some users
>>
>>121463000
This has nothing to do with growing up, this has to do with how removing features and challenge from games is the new staple philosophy from game developers. If it was simply outgrowing them, then even old games would stop being fun, and they haven't. And no, it's not nostalgia either. Even picking up old games and franchises I had never played before, they are still so much fun than most newer ones.

>>
>>121469586
good going for first base, actually. what storyteller/difficulty you playing, because that will describe your base a lot .

otherwise the design is actually quite functional, but i would make the craft rooms, storages more accessible instead of building them deep into the hill. just building a room further into the hill will increase the travel time between rooms and that in itself combined with hauling long distanced can prolongue literally everything in the game. give it a lot of supply chain thought, but then again, if youre playing on an easier difficulty, it does not really matter, just make sure there is good accessability for defense and production.

and yes, definetly more needed, not to mention batteries, that need a room for themselves. build windmills as well, youll need any and all power sources.

So what the fuck did people mean by there was more/lots of content in anno 2205?

There is three production trees, just like anno 2070. 2070 had both starting factions and scientists, then later underwater with DLC. 2205 has base faction, cold people, and moon people.

I think I'm gonna see if Steam will refund this shit.

I'd rather not have to start my region all over again, plus NAM overcomplicates something that should be so much simpler. All you should have to do is drag the road, not plop each section separately.

Im playing the "gradually increasing difficulty" girl at Rough difficulty.

What do you think of building into the mountain vs outside?
>>
>>121488392
In that case primarily build into the mountianside, and priorize creating a killbox.

i usually build what i felt like and somewhat thusly adjusted difficulty depending on evniromnet. so easy diff = hard enviro and counterwise.

Help me out /cbg/.

I pirated Anno 2205 on a whim since I never really got interested in the series before and the previous installment didn't really do it for me either.

But this one, hell I can't stop playing. I'm really into this game now. If any of you have done something similar, if I buy the game, can i transfer my save easily from pirate to legit?

The game is filled with all that DRM crap so I'm concerned.
>>
>>121490879
Not sure about Anno but most pirated games have the cracker team made it so that the game saves everything on the default location (just like if you purchase the game legit). Again not sure with Anno's case, but likely you will be able to just continue where you left off once you purchase the game and install it.

Just need to worry about the duplicate registry shit for your pirated game vs. legit.

Why not? I liked the decisions they took with the game and I'm enjoying it much more than 2070. I was confused earlier because on /v/ people blatantly lied about features being missing because they were stupid enough not to see them, so when I played it was a very pleasant surprise.

I've been needing a new city builder for a long time now, Skylines didn't do it for me and Sim City is dead.

Also, since After Dark has been out for a good..month and a half now, what's the judgement? Worth 15 bucks or worth a sale. Or not worth a buy at all.

Pic unrelated to skylines, but I recently started playing Banished. Is there a mod that allows you to view your population age distribution, so I can make a rough estimation of how (un)stable a population is in terms of growth/decline

The districts are pretty messy since there are lots of bizarro shaped leisure and hotel districts added to the downtown area. There are some more interesting areas though.

Chasm city should be pretty self explanatory, grown around stacked rails and highways. The sunken railway station in the middle has the highest usage rates in the entire city.
Arborea is the central park area of the city, divided in half by the downtown highway.
If you're looking for some bad time, Brookham is the place. Nested between airport, highways, railways and some light industry, the land value isn't exactly stellar. You only move here if you have to.

The problem with Banished is that the main challenge of the game is not starving/freezing to death. It's decent fun for a while but then you realise that the game doesn't really have much depth, once the initial starting challenge is over its smooth sailing unless you make serious mistakes. Nobody really has any needs beyond food, firewood and a house. There's some replay value in weird shit like go for the no schools no trade no farms achievements all in one playthrough, mods also add some more replayability but it doesn't last that long. Worth 20 bucks at normal retail price? Probably not. Worth 5 bucks at 75% off now? Probably.

So, which is better, Anno 1440, 2070, or 2205?
>>
>>121585936
I imagine 2205 will be the best one once it has more content
as it is it's kinda barebones
>>
>>121585936
2070 has better gameplay than 1404 except for the absolutely inexcusable AI which makes SP inferior. 2205 has some nifty changes and good ideas but it's crippled by the fact that the only challenge is in how fucking irritating it is to wait for sectors to load and no amount of DLC jewery will fix this.

tl;dr
2070 MP >1404 >2070 SP >>>>> 2205

I like them both.

Storymode is fun because you get a nice story and some extra challenges that probably wouldn't be fun all the time but are fun because they fit in with the story.

Endless is fun because, well, it's going to take you a few hours at least just to get to the max level, and then you challenge yourself with making all your chains optimal, or making a huge fleet, or making the biggest city, or building a monument. Whatever you want.
Basically endless I play until I feel I've had enough, which is usually a week or so later.
>>
>>121599151
the problem with new anno is that there is only the endless mode, the way I played anno 1404 and anno 2070 was that I would go play my single endless campaign inbetween scenarious
>>

So how much ram do you actually need for Anno 2205?
It says it'll run on as little as 4 gigs of ram, but I doubt that given all the map switching you need to do.
Bit worried my meager 6 gigs won't be enough.

Not that I'm actually going to buy it yet; I'm going to wait till the game is 40 bucks, or 50 with the dlc.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but the newest patch is going to give us 50% larger zones (or 50% more zones?).

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/building-limits-increased-patch-1-2-2-f2-is-live.890051/

Still no tunnels in the map creator though.

does that mean that theyre just going to increase the zones allowed to buy from 9 to like 15 and people will still mod it up to 25?

Weather and Seasons would be added. You have to take care of the snow in you city which also slows down you traffic or blocks roads. Also you need more energy for heating and people get more ill. Changing seasons will cause snow to melt and produce masses of water and hot summer will reduce the amount that is available.
Also a more complex industry. Industry has to gather resources like ore and oil. Then it gets refined and they build basic products out of them. Then other factories will build advance stuff like TVs and PCs.
>>
>>121616448
Modern day monuments.

So something massive that takes a long time to build, and when complete completely changes things in your city.
Like for example a large car car manufacturing plant, or some kind of extra fancy skyscraper. Or the Olympics. Stuff like that.

Also extra large buildings of 5*x, 6*x, 7*x, 8*x tiles.

Also also, marketplaces. Special kind of park. Not sure what I'd make it do but it'd have to motivate people to place it in the center of the cities, or even start their cities with one or more.

Cyberpunk styled buildings, can be disabled through the menu. It causes buildings to get really tall, wifi because a service that needs to be taken care of, drones, causes buildings that are built near a highway, freeway or some other road that towers over the building to get built with the road installed into it. Please don't laugh at me.

How do I reliably make money in Anno 2205?

I'm building moon shit now, trying to make the augmentation production chain so I can ship that shit to earth. To make even two of them (just two units) costs 3000 a turn in maintenance, and then 2000 to ship them to Earth. So I pile on more executives and shit to try and get more money but then have to upgrade my other resources and yeah.

It's taking for fucking ever.

Just to check, Anno 2205 works like Grand Ages: Rome, right?
Buildings have a specific radius, and provide/consume goods within that radius, but there are no stocks, only production/consumption.
>>
>>121700114
>Buildings have a specific radius, and provide/consume goods within that radius
No, they changed it a bit. In the older games you had a limited number of goods "transports" and you could save some by having chain buildings together. IE, bakers next to the flour mill. But now as long as there's a road to it and you're not out of logistics it doesn't matter.
>>
>>121700114
>>121700212
What he said, but there's actually stock in 2205, it just doesn't show. If you hover over whatever like +# or -# it will actually show you the stock. It's not that significant though, since you can't move it around.
>>
>>121665481
No, they went away from the radius bullshit. There's still a max distance (I think) but it's massive. I've just been doing straight lines of housing like this.

I'm wrong, you can move it around via trade routes, but the game focuses so much on balance of production and usage of goods that it won't matter.
>>
>>121700429
No, just show us your city and we will try to fix it maybe
>>
>>121700347
>If you hover over whatever like +# or -# it will actually show you the stock
Addendum, there's also a hidden stock that only shows if you're in the negative production to show how much time you have before people start bitching.

>>121700485
>I'm wrong, you can move it around via trade routes
Well it's still not quite like the old games but yeah.
>>
>>121700390
They don't have max distance for community. In arctic, there is a defined radius and the moon shield. I think there is max distance for services like the train station and security, but it's pretty big, I'm not sure how far even if there is a limit. And of course, production buildings require logistics.

So the only grey area people need to think about is the services, I think.
>>
>>121428821
When you build a lunar base you can have negro workers with whites in charge.
>>
>>121700752
For the metro I had one reaching half way across the map before I built the other. You don't seem to need to have more than 3-4 per map either since the ratio doesn't matter.

OH SHIT
i'm adding the one thing I missed in every fucking city building game I ever liked

guys

wait

guyeeezzzz..

MIXED ZONE TYPES

for fucks sake, I've lived in five cities in three countries over the past ten years, and goddamit.. it was always COMMERCIAL in the ground floor and RESIDENTIAL upstairs. for fucks sake, I can FEEL the walls vibrating because the building where my RESIDENTIAL flat is in, there's also a pub (COMMERCIAL!) downstairs.

so, at least some hybrid zonig like RESIDENTIAL ONLY / RES. / COM. MIXED / COMMERCIAL ONLY..

i can even imagine industrial / residential, with oldschool workshops and the like.
after that, i'd add some of the cyberpunk stuff already mentioned.

what effects would it have?
I can see it doing two things
1. satisfy the desire for building residential/commercial at the same time
2. encouraging pedestrian movement instead of cars

I live in southern california and it's only just now that the mixed zone type is catching on (probably due to removing bullshit restrictions. thanks liberals)

>>121757510
being slightly drunk, I dindn't think much of the effects it would have, rather I typed the first thing that came to my mind when I read the question what I would add if I could.

personally I lived and worked in europe mostly, where "IRL zones" were never that strictly distinguished as in city simulations

I'm still not sure what the pros and cons would be exactly, but the strict differentiation between the types of zones has always bugged me.
>>
>>121759965
>I lived and worked in europe mostly, where "IRL zones" were never that strictly distinguished as in city simulations
Zones in American cities tend to be more strictly distinguished than in city simulations.
>>
>>121759965
Originally, people wanted to live outside of the city, away from the noise and huge numbers of people. Improvements in trains and cars allowed this, especially with the various highway systems created all over in the 50's, in both western Europe and North America.
Thus, suburbs. People live only around other houses, with lawns, a driveway for their car, a garage, etc.
Unfortunately now we seem to have regressed. Tract housing is a fucking cancer and "affordable housing projects" are hellholes. In some places I'm unsure why anyone wants to live in the city whatsoever.

Yes. It's called asset creator. You create two parallel highways there and plop them down wherever you need them. Remember to use the free-form tool to unite the ends.

>build one highway road
>pot down the parallel highways you have created
>connect the other highway with the free-form tool selected
>>
>>121797560
but that only works for straight highways, imagine i want to build them through hills

well there are no tunnels in the editor anyway but still

The logistics building has radius, it shows how effective it is before you place it.
Other buildings have a massive radius so it almost doesn't matter.
There are stocks, but they're limited. Its mostly about item/minute.
And you can see useful shit if you hover over happines bar after you click on a house.
Oh, and F11 toggles day/night cycles.
