There are a number of ways to do it.
The main thing is to provide good access to the highways and have good highway networks that distribute the flow of traffic evenly throughout your city.

Depends. Would you be ok with an anno that is only about building shit with no need to balance diplomacy and military? The only challenge left in the game is balancing budget because lunar settlements require ridiculous amounts of maintenance. Even so it's easy to overcome because the whole sector is yours so you can just spam the temperate sector full of low-level taxpayers before expanding to the next level. If you just want comfy building then go for it but if you want the whole package of expanding under pressure then better stay away. If in doubt, pirate then buy if you find yourself liking it.
new anno desperately needs scenarios like power games and such, I never understood people who liked playing continuous mode, because frankly after you get the top tier of everything there is no motivation to continue

besides all that i still somewhat like the game, but i only just got into arctic, so there is some more content for me to play through, probably will do a second playthrough too, but not more, starting to get stale already
It's good for like one playthrough. Then you realise there's nothing to stop you except for overexpanding your arctic/lunar and going into the red, and your second becomes super easy min/max.

basically that review is shit because saying that features that only existed in 1 title in the whole franchise somehow define that franchise is ridiculous
according to that anno 1404 is not an anno game, since it does not have research, pollution, choice of factions

I think they wanted to try something a bit different this time around. After making almost the same game five times in a row, I can understand why. However the Anno formula actually works every time, even if it's basically a reskin + some new stuff.
I think trying to do something new isn't a bad idea, but this one didn't work out so well. Perhaps they'll have a better idea next time.

placement of service buildings no longer matters - false it does, all service buildings generate their resource and the further away a house is from the service building the more resource it consumes so you still have to place them centrally

The storage is really hard to notice, maybe because for like every other game it was in the warehouse but this time they decided to be ebin hipsters and put it elsewhere. The fact that people can actually not notice a storage exists is in itself a very strong point of criticism - why change something that has been here since fucking forever and works just fine?

Except there's literally nothing else to do other than promote pops. Nobody to fight except for joke crisis sectors that RTS scrubs can win by 'select everyone and right click', etc.

The biggest problem with this is that it's not explicitly mentioned in the tooltips. If you want to make such a major change at least fucking tell us. I didn't even notice until after a while. I do agree this is an improvement, though they could at least have told us.

When the game makes changes and doesn't tell you shit it's not your fault for assuming. Update your tooltips or something so people know, this is clearly developers' fault.

like 10 minutes after getting my first investor they were all 100% happy since it's a matter of plopping down 5 buildings, add some modules and 2 extra trade routes
in the previous games at least you had to concern yourself over fertilities/mine spots and to some degree challenging production chains like pharmaceuticals or bionic suits
This has nothing to do with growing up, this has to do with how removing features and challenge from games is the new staple philosophy from game developers. If it was simply outgrowing them, then even old games would stop being fun, and they haven't. And no, it's not nostalgia either. Even picking up old games and franchises I had never played before, they are still so much fun than most newer ones.

I want to have my roads going under the railway in the pic but the only way is to use the level tool and make a tunnel for each one.
I know that I could do this with NAM, but I really don't like that mod and would rather not use it.

good going for first base, actually. what storyteller/difficulty you playing, because that will describe your base a lot .
otherwise the design is actually quite functional, but i would make the craft rooms, storages more accessible instead of building them deep into the hill. just building a room further into the hill will increase the travel time between rooms and that in itself combined with hauling long distanced can prolongue literally everything in the game. give it a lot of supply chain thought, but then again, if youre playing on an easier difficulty, it does not really matter, just make sure there is good accessability for defense and production.
and yes, definetly more needed, not to mention batteries, that need a room for themselves. build windmills as well, youll need any and all power sources.

There is three production trees, just like anno 2070. 2070 had both starting factions and scientists, then later underwater with DLC. 2205 has base faction, cold people, and moon people.

I just found it way too complicated to get transit systems up when the base game made transit so simple. I like spending days building up massive regions and NAM just wasn't fun for me.

I'd rather not have to start my region all over again, plus NAM overcomplicates something that should be so much simpler. All you should have to do is drag the road, not plop each section separately.

I pirated Anno 2205 on a whim since I never really got interested in the series before and the previous installment didn't really do it for me either.
But this one, hell I can't stop playing. I'm really into this game now. If any of you have done something similar, if I buy the game, can i transfer my save easily from pirate to legit?
The game is filled with all that DRM crap so I'm concerned.
Not sure about Anno but most pirated games have the cracker team made it so that the game saves everything on the default location (just like if you purchase the game legit). Again not sure with Anno's case, but likely you will be able to just continue where you left off once you purchase the game and install it.
Just need to worry about the duplicate registry shit for your pirated game vs. legit.

Bretty good but LOTS of major gameplay changes. Doing quests is also actually important now since you need the quest only resources to not spend a fortune in both money and land on factory buildings.
Holy fucking shit these power and trade costs. Finally got my investors though so I'm back out of the red. That fucking reactor though.

After Dark is very much worth the money, even if it is just t support the devs. It is the best city builder on the market right now.
Having said that, if you are tight on money, the free AD patch has enough content so save your money.

I'm interested as to what will you do with the mine.
Currently planning out a harbor & industrial area expansion on the other side of the river. Island on the right is also going to be filled, but so that a nice beach waterfront remains.
The districts are pretty messy since there are lots of bizarro shaped leisure and hotel districts added to the downtown area. There are some more interesting areas though.
Chasm city should be pretty self explanatory, grown around stacked rails and highways. The sunken railway station in the middle has the highest usage rates in the entire city.
Arborea is the central park area of the city, divided in half by the downtown highway.
If you're looking for some bad time, Brookham is the place. Nested between airport, highways, railways and some light industry, the land value isn't exactly stellar. You only move here if you have to.

Rest of the interchanges are hand built using precision engineering, fine road heights and coffee.

Is Banished worth playing? I was hyped for it for a while but then /v/ kind of shat on it when it was released so I bottled my hype back up and never looked at it again. (I know, I shouldn't let them influence me like that but for some reason my enjoyment of a game just gets ruined if I see people talking smack about it like that.)
The problem with Banished is that the main challenge of the game is not starving/freezing to death. It's decent fun for a while but then you realise that the game doesn't really have much depth, once the initial starting challenge is over its smooth sailing unless you make serious mistakes. Nobody really has any needs beyond food, firewood and a house. There's some replay value in weird shit like go for the no schools no trade no farms achievements all in one playthrough, mods also add some more replayability but it doesn't last that long. Worth 20 bucks at normal retail price? Probably not. Worth 5 bucks at 75% off now? Probably.
The way the access to services works is fucking stupid.
2070 has better gameplay than 1404 except for the absolutely inexcusable AI which makes SP inferior. 2205 has some nifty changes and good ideas but it's crippled by the fact that the only challenge is in how fucking irritating it is to wait for sectors to load and no amount of DLC jewery will fix this.

Storymode is fun because you get a nice story and some extra challenges that probably wouldn't be fun all the time but are fun because they fit in with the story.
Endless is fun because, well, it's going to take you a few hours at least just to get to the max level, and then you challenge yourself with making all your chains optimal, or making a huge fleet, or making the biggest city, or building a monument. Whatever you want.
Basically endless I play until I feel I've had enough, which is usually a week or so later.
the problem with new anno is that there is only the endless mode, the way I played anno 1404 and anno 2070 was that I would go play my single endless campaign inbetween scenarious
i only wish the industrial zone didnt look so shit up close
So how much ram do you actually need for Anno 2205?
It says it'll run on as little as 4 gigs of ram, but I doubt that given all the map switching you need to do.
Bit worried my meager 6 gigs won't be enough.

I tried to replicate the situation. Lots of windows and railings at jaggies-prone angles, and used same 1080p resolution as you. Here's the result using the ingame highres screenshot. Downscaled back to 1080p in paint.
Um. There's definitely some difference here. What 3d card you got?
Weather and Seasons would be added. You have to take care of the snow in you city which also slows down you traffic or blocks roads. Also you need more energy for heating and people get more ill. Changing seasons will cause snow to melt and produce masses of water and hot summer will reduce the amount that is available.
Also a more complex industry. Industry has to gather resources like ore and oil. Then it gets refined and they build basic products out of them. Then other factories will build advance stuff like TVs and PCs.
Modern day monuments.
So something massive that takes a long time to build, and when complete completely changes things in your city.
Like for example a large car car manufacturing plant, or some kind of extra fancy skyscraper. Or the Olympics. Stuff like that.
Also extra large buildings of 5*x, 6*x, 7*x, 8*x tiles.
Also also, marketplaces. Special kind of park. Not sure what I'd make it do but it'd have to motivate people to place it in the center of the cities, or even start their cities with one or more.
Cyberpunk styled buildings, can be disabled through the menu. It causes buildings to get really tall, wifi because a service that needs to be taken care of, drones, causes buildings that are built near a highway, freeway or some other road that towers over the building to get built with the road installed into it. Like this.
Nvidia here as well (980ti), so that doesn't explain. I tried the same scene with ingame antialias turned off, but the result actually looks exactly the same (the antialias in this game is hilariously ineffective).
Obviously this means that the computer goblins are stealing all your smooth pixels.
My first colony, how am I doing so far? I got a couple visitors from a frontier town but they just kinda stand there.
You're gonna want more food.
Also, building in the mountains is secure but it takes fuckages to set up nicely and my colonists tend to snap and go crazy before the base is finished. You don't have to build in a mountain. Just make sure whatever you build only has one entrance in and out.
Its a pretty tiny mountain. The cut off at the top of the screenshot is pretty much the top of the mountain.
This area is swarming with easy to kill sounding animals, so I was planning on hunting a bunch and storing their meat.
I put a couple mods in to Cities Skylines and now when I start a new city I'm getting pic related.

How do I reliably make money in Anno 2205?
I'm building moon shit now, trying to make the augmentation production chain so I can ship that shit to earth. To make even two of them (just two units) costs 3000 a turn in maintenance, and then 2000 to ship them to Earth. So I pile on more executives and shit to try and get more money but then have to upgrade my other resources and yeah.
It's taking for fucking ever.

More people means more taxes.
You don't want the highest levels because they, like you said, require moon stuff.
So just get them as high as you can with local (or cheap to supply) resources.

Not that anon but I want to make a city that has everything integrated. Right now I have separate areas for city, industry, and farming, but a lot of the buildings seem like they are designed to work in as little space as possible. As if they were meant to be in or near the city itself.
It would help if I didn't have to circle due to police stations/information stations and what not.

Granted it's because I actually WOULD spend hours at a time on it but I'm well into paper-writing season for college and that would be a bad idea. My new map actually kind of sucks but I'm unwilling to pour over it at the moment.

Just look at real cities and use ideas from there. You can balance traffic by using one way roads, roundabouts and so on. Imitating a real city will work except in industrial areas or train station since in skylines generates a shitload of trucks.

4) uninstall and clear every leftover from game
5) download different version of game (im guessing you pirate so pirate a different one)
6) install and play

7) reinstall pc

the houses developped just fine and people were living in them tho, but not a single car came over the highway
Could be that you highway isnt connected with the outside of the map. Thats a problem sometimes when you download a map.

Remove the marked road and replace it with a 6 lane road. Because at the bottom all the trucks will drive to your industry on the right. Make a junktion in the middle so they can go directly to you industry without blocking the normal traffic in your town.

No, they changed it a bit. In the older games you had a limited number of goods "transports" and you could save some by having chain buildings together. IE, bakers next to the flour mill. But now as long as there's a road to it and you're not out of logistics it doesn't matter.
