Yeah, I would write your actual code to use pure functions as much as you can. Then at the top level where you actually have to interface with the library, use it to modify your IORef.

Personally, I got good at Haskell through exploring the implementation of programming languages. I'd say keep at it, and keep trying out your own stuff as much as possible instead of just copying the tutorial code.

By moving level 5 later I meant that 6 and 7 are notably easier. If you make the walls slidy then it will no longer be that hard. The thing is that it's hard to manuver in such a tight space without touching the ceiling losing momentum and falling to your death.

My main concern is that I really won't get any exposure and that despite being good my game will immediately fade into obscurity the moment it launches because of the torrent of shovelware and shitware on mobile platforms... but it seems like it's kinda similar with Steam, too. Having never released a game that wasn't a half-finished, unpolished turd, I'm extremely nervous and anxious about releasing the one I'm currently working on, which is like my fucking lifetime masterpiece by comparison.

I just don't want to be the gamedev equivalent of those guys who make pretty cool stuff and never really get recognition except in obscure forums and later magazines that talk about games that were good but never got anywhere

At this point my game is barely a prototype, all the gameplay is the one by default in UE4's third person character. I still don't have enemies and the traps don't work well.
I have 3 floors of nothingness except for a few rooms with traps and platforming, but there are also shortcuts and secrets.

Have any of you yesdevs ever tried a complete rewrite for a totally different platform? My current game is on the apple app store and I'm seriously considering taking it to Windows AKA Steam but the prospect of rewriting literally everything is really scary to me.

I've completely converted before, but due to my extremely neutral writing it was pretty easy. I don't really take advantage of crazy language features... so it's easy as fuck.

All my drawing/audio shit is also neatly organized/abstracted so it's just a matter of changing the specifics of the language/library.

I imagine if your code is messy / uses a lot of language specific shit you're going to have a bad time.

I'm making a Space Station 13 clone because i'm out of ideas (it's just a hobby, not like i'm going to publish it) and i'm having a problem with collision on airlocks.
Basically, my code checks if the player is colliding with the airlock. If it is, it changes it's sprite to sAirlockOpen. If the sprite is sAirlockOpen, it's not a solid instance anymore

I know solid collisions is shit, but i'm not really using it. Basically, i'm using solid as A VARIABLE. If an instance is solid, it runs another collision code, not the built-in one.

The problem is, when it's colliding with an airlock, the walking speed gets slower, even though the airlock isn't a solid instance when open.
Please help.
