however, last league I rolled HC, just a boring ass flame totem, and the slight (SLIGHT) pressure of dying permanently gave a nice flavor to the game. It was sort of fun in its own way to be extremely hindered by permanent death (which is why certain video games like Elona or caves of Qud exist)

You cannot multimod armour pieces. I think the best course of action would be to mod to block the prefix or suffix I think.

If I was going to master mod life it wouldnt be much of an upgrade as my current helm gives pretty high life. I really want a royal burgonet base item with equelevant or better stats than i currently have, because the Royal Burgonet has higher armour than an Eternal Burgonet.

Below tier 8, you don't really need to invest anything more than augments and alterations. You'd only burn regals, chaos, or alchs whenever you need returns on a map, so whenever you're aiming to climb tiers. It's probably best just to buy a bunch of tier 6 maps if you farm Dried Lake to 75, then use alterations and augments on those in order to build a base from there on upwards.

I get more life as marauder. Scion would do about the same dps and witch would do higher dps but lower life. There aren't that many good life nodes in the caster area most of them are pretty mediocre.

I tried messing with the scion tree but if I grab all the good life and dps nodes I'll end up with less sockets resulting into lower DPS and life. This is me using jewels that give life and 2x DPS stats.

Current build as marauder has:
6 sockets
174% max life
262 STR
3.6% Life regen

As scion if i take the most logical route I'll end up with:
4 sockets
183% max life
220 STR
Less armour and 1.8% life regen
, also leaving alot open slots for if i ever decide to go like 93 or 94 from 92.

DPS is abit lower due lack of 2 sockets, if not counting sockets scion has abit more DPS.

Grabbed pretty much all the life nodes you can get except Blood Drinker because you have to waste 3 points to get to there. And I'm sitting at 180 STR and 173% max life and 5 sockets. Abit more DPS though, but less Armour and Life

Witch also requires 5 points to get to the point where you want but with higher damage %.

I'm doing a somewhat different take on it, using Emberwake, The Taming, and a 98% chance to ignite with resolute technique. Pretty good survivability at 197% life and 7% life regen, with over 200% increased armour. Most of my damage comes from a Fireborn jewel in the duelist slot, converting the entire Wrecking Ball and Destroyer clusters to fire damage. The other three jewel slots are increased max life, chance to ignite/ignite duration, attack speed, and fire damage. It's only level 90 just now, so I'm missing about 15% of that life and a few other bits and pieces, but it's working fine so far. Mana is a bit of an issue - The build is very gulp intensive.

But seriously, once this baby hits 5 frenzy charges, you see some serious shit. It doesn't suffer from horrible single target like many other flicker builds because your increased damage goes up by about 60% for each second the target stays alive, and it's literally impossible to drop frenzy charges at any point because of your 90%+ ignite chance.
