guys i hate how melee is the strongest form of combat of all. Magic can't even compare. Ranged is totally sub par. Ranged is not even needed to be skilled at all because it has weak bows and is weak against melee. As a archer you don't even need to counter magic casters because magic isn't even used offensively. Magic is too expensive to use and has armour that makes goblins weep. Its called the combat triangle despite the fact that only melee works

In pvp it all comes down to how far you want to take it. If you're are going all out and taking every advantage possible ranged is a extremely powerful counter to magic, and you will need all three styles to win a battle with over heads.

In PvP a mage/range hybrid twats everyone else in most scenarios. When it doesn't mage is used with melee.
In PvM ranged is the fastest exp for things like slayer and other bosses such as kraken and arma. Even mage shits on everything else during smoke devils tasks. Mage is also used on bosses/demi-bosses such as DKs, Barrows, Scorpia and Abyssal Sire.

All in all even though melee is favoured because of its high DPS and low recurring costs, you need all 3 to be a proficient OldSchool player and you're a shitter for thinking otherwise lad

For me it was just getting the rhythm of everything and having the right mindset. Its a lot to understand and a lot to do if you're new to items switches and prayer switching like I was. What helped for me was to break it all down, so a lot of my early attempts I wouldn't item switch and things like that to just make it easier to grasp. Also, I didn't bother memorizing the patterns it just kind of comes naturally after enough tries.
