Speaking of translations, anyone have an actually reliable method for hooking Wolf games for translation programs?

It seems a lot of the more interesting HRPGs use Wolf, but I can never get it to hook right. I tried using the hexcodes or whatever in the document, but that always gives the text as a constant stream that overflows the translation program.

CM3D2: Anyone know if wearing some clothes or doing some positions can cause crash? I'm on AMD and I've already updated the client to 1.004 and force directx but I'm still having the crash issue

Disable the embeeded translation, that should give you several threads of text in the Text settings (its the ITH hooking). I've been playing 金色の魔道人形・真章, which uses Wolf too, had to pick 2 threads. One for the dialogue window and other thread for the dialogue bubbles which showed up.

I've updated it. Up until 1.15. Truth is, I've been encountering crashes even during 1.13 but it just became more frequent when I updated to 1.15. I'm even considering buying a new laptop with Intel just so I won't have this issue anymore.

Well, I did my best, but the wordwrapping just didn't work - it crashed when I used the pre-made files, and when I edited them myself, it runs normally, but without correct wordwrapping. \( )/. I will just proceed with the TL and hopefully the first beta patch will encourage a much better person than me to give it a try themselves. The lack of word-wrap is annoying but it doesn't ruin the VN, I think.

Also, the game was pretty good. The CG was really nice quality, but there wasn't much of it. It's more of a constant run and scavanger hunt. It's kinda like Dead Rising as a hentai game, with some time sensitive events (completely missed the athletic girl my first playthrough).

Update: The word wrapping works for the most part. There's some weird edge case where word wrapping breaks completely if you visit the main menu and then go back and restart the scenario. This is going to take a little bit longer than I thought.

About 80% of it comes down to being a good translator and knowing/being able to read context. Unless you're translating something that actually has literary/poetic depth, it's very much fine as long as you review the whole thing at the end to make sure it's consistent and it makes sense.

Just keep in mind that Jap symbols take two letters each. You may or may not want to use them, since sometimes the Eng counterparts (for example ~ vs ~) may look like horseshit ingame.

Yes you do nigger. It's by far the easiest way to spread your translation file. And making it super fucking easy. Just download kirikiri.exe and make a bat file where-ever your cmd.exe starts up in, something like

cd E:\PATHGOESHERE

del patch.xp3
kikiriki.exe -c -i patch -o patch.xp3
c:

(Or you could just make the .bat file in the game folder with a shortcut to it, and only use the "del" and "kirikiri" lines instead but... I don't trust Windows with simple tasks like that.)
And bam, all you need to do is open up cmd and then type your .bat filename and you'll make a new patch file in seconds, ready for testing. Oh, this assumes that you have a folder called "patch" in the game directory and that whatever you're replacing from data.xp3 is in that folder. Remember that you can put images in there as well and the game will use them over what are in data.xp3, so image translation is easy in kirikiri as well. You simply DO NOT NEED a "hacker" for kirikiri. You need a "hacker" for engines where you can't crack open the game files or can't replace them. Both are ridiculously easy in kirikiri.

... except for the new kirikiriZ. Still looking for tools for that. Well, I'm sure somebody will make them soon enough.

Did the guy who translated it from japanese to chinese just cut out the whole, "Van Gogh + Gauguin" part then? That seems like less of a case of cleaned Japanese > English MT issue and more like a Japanese > Chinese (who probably made cuts) > English (who might have made even more cuts). That's less of a showcasing of someone who just cleaned MTs and didn't grasp the subject matter and more of a case of the message losing it's meaning like a, "pass this message on" joke where by the end of the line the message became something utterly different.

I think a better example would be from a page of one of the translation efforts from Rocket Monkey's stories where the translator didn't understand what a censored word was simply because it was censored. Even though the first letter of the word was left uncensored so you could tell what the rest of the word was, sort of like if someone says, "p***y". His OCR to MT couldn't translate the word for him even though it was a common word for "shit/poo", however since he lacked that basic knowledge he translated the line wrong completely, which also effectively made the rest of the line even more incorrect than through his usual method.

From what I know, Chinese use their Hanzi (Japanese Kanji) to represent the sound of anything foreign instead of generic sound alphabet because they don't have them (pinyin doesn't count, of course). That's probably where Buddhist valley came from as well.

Also, manual linebreaking allows you to easily see how long your translation will be ingame. Otherwise, you'll get Rattanman syndrome - constantly get lines which take two "pages" ingame, second page being nothing but a word or two. It is really annoying to read.

Automatic linebreaking has good sides to it too. One, as you said, it requires less work. Especially true if you run a second pass and need to change things up. Secondly, if anyone for some reason has a different font ingame, automatic linebreaks won't go fucking haywire.

So I am a big fan of those Yukari "choose your own adventure" games, but it pisses me off how they give away so much potential.

1. Fuck the dice rolls. It's absolutely asine to force someone down specific roads based on pure luck. And it's the epitome of stupidity to make these lead to game overs instead of just small influences. And the most fucked up thing is that you can just reload before the role and repeat until you get your desired result fuck that.

It pisses me off even more, since every character comes with a status screen which show stat distribution in Str/Agi/etc. Remove dice rolls and replace it by checks against these values. And have some events raise/lower the stat distribution (which even exists already in rare cases). This would make stat checks reasonable and realistic.

2. Losing fights leads to the title screen (effectively game over). Fucking WHY? In games in which you get literally raped by almost anything and often those things show up randomly and then just leave without consequences, why not make losing have consequences like getting capture and/or raped? FUCK.

3. A lot of the events dont have an effect on the gameplay, despite it making sense if they would. Actually its somewhat implemented that wearing the bondage prisoner thing making you weaker by making the bar thing load much faster, but that's the only thing. Why doesn't being pregnant influence your fighting capabilities or naked (or damage armor) instead of fully armored? And what's even worse: in most rape scenes your clothes get damaged, but often it isn't shown damaged afterwards.

However, if you were busy on your way to the city, then maybe you will encounter the guard if you just walk down the road and not encounter them by staying inside houses and pillaging like a dickass thief.

So, I translated the first 100 or so lines of Kimomen, and would like to preform a simple "does this work for other people too?" test.

Just put this in the main folder (which has data.xp3) and run the game.
I personally didn't even install the game since you can play just from the setup folder (this neat trick is very valuable since around 70% of nukige let you do this - just extract the iso, open the setup folder, and run the .exe) so I don't know if that changes anything. Probably shouldn't. Anyway, like I said, 100 lines or so, there is NO sex in this patch, I hit ctrl F and noticed it'd be a bit before sex began so I wanted to push a test patch before I invest that much time. Another thing about piratepad, though my japanese is pretty much restricted to dictionary (even less so really) it's nice to have the original japanese text as reference to what the translated text is. I'm sure others who have more experience in the language could help more if they have the original lines to reference to the translated ones. Though they could also have the untranslated version open to compare scripts.

All edits on piratepad are saved to the timeline of the file so if anyone fucks around with something you can always look back on the timeline to an older saved version.

What you've done so far is good enough if you want to make an example of what I had in mind. If you deleted the japanese text that's fine too. I can get the original script through a text hooker and keep along with each line per translated one.

The plan is this:

The translated script you've got right now you post to the pad. It doesn't need to be the entire script just what you've managed so far.
On that pad anon can clean out the excess code and isolate name and text.
Anon can also copy/paste the text that is associated with the lines you translated.
From there anons can edit the translated text for punctuation, spelling mistakes, and add in new text if you missed something from the original japanese.

Anyways it was just the plan I had on a smaller scale. All you have to do on your end is check the script on the pad and fix the spelling mistakes and such on your patch.xp3 version of the script. No real complicated process.

Also I noticed that Sonia here was saying, "ah, Tina!". Besides the capital R there in the next line. With the project I had thought of for piratepad it would be simpler to make a note of these mistakes so you could fix them faster.

Note, captain level - not his stats - are the only thing which matters in commander fights such as honnouji or dungeon crawling. So level up those captains. Get Rance to level 99 and he'll almost solo the fights.
