You just need create a new save file/character and see if the person you want in the camp is there, then turn the game off without saving and redo until you get who you want or give up.
It won't work if you play as character that was already made since it will save the town's condition for that day. And you'll have to at least temporarily make a new house in order to save with that new character.

So I haven't played New Leaf in a few weeks and I want to go and play it, but I'm kinda scared in case one of my villagers moved out. I know I can check by making a new villager and looking around the town, but if someone did move out, is there anything I can do about it? I haven't backed my save up in a while and updated to 10.1 when browserhax was still working but can't access it now.

Do what I do.
Set your clock back to the last day you played the game and play as normal.
If you get a moveout ping, you're safe.
Just say no and then save and quit.
If you don't get a moveout ping, play the next day until you get one.
No matter how much time passes between that day and the next time you play, no new villagers will move out.
At this point, you can take advantage of this by setting your time back to the present with no risk of moveouts, because as far as the game is concerned, only a single day has passed.

I've played it a lot, but not when I was a kid. I bought it after getting into CF towards the end of it's life cycle, and I still think in many ways it's the best AC game. The dialogue is much more adult, for lack of a better word. Also the map system/perspective is totally different (think a Link to the Past on SNES). The music is also really different and cool, even though it's written by the same guy.

Overall it's definitely worth emulating, and maybe even worth buying if you have a GameCube around.

While I really enjoyed making constellations in CF, the night sky in NL is pretty awesome (I especially like the way the stars flicker between red and blue sometimes).
