Spacing is the most important part of playing Ike, it's super important to learn the range of all your moves so you can space them properly and use them in the best way possible. A good thing to do to a shielding opponent is to do a fastfall nair at max range so you get enough shieldpush that when they try to punish you (8 times out of 10 it's a grab) you can dtilt them and immediately fair them, it's pretty useful but don't really use it against characters with tether grabs because you'll get grabbed every time.

Don't float wildly. Know matchup specific float heights as well. Use turnips to scare your opponent into shield and floats/grabs to scare them out of shield. Learn percents for dair follow ups and how to capitalize off of turnips. Grind out float cancels in the air and ground level to optimize your movement options.

When she starts the roll, frame 1-3 you can hit her but there is no chance you'll react and catch that. Frame 4-23 she's intangible. Frame 24-40, she can't do anything at all and you can hit her. Her fastest option after is shield which can be grabbed anyway. For 2 more frames of startup she can jab or spot dodge I guess.

Hey, I got another questions since we're talking about frame data. What's the start up frames for jumping in the air? I mean, after you get thrown and want to avoid a followup, I can tell air dodging comes out faster then jumping, but what is the frame data for air dodging vs jumping?

Jumping comes out faster. The thing is, the first few frames of the jump might not be the fastest acceleration to get you out of the combo. Watch Ness double jump, at the start he does a whole windup so someone chasing you could intercept that. Then watch Greninja double jump and he's halfway to the top of the screen in a few frames. Yoshi's is slow but he gets a bit of armor so it's okay.
Exact frame data for air dodges though varies. The fastest air dodge, Mewtwo comes out frame 2. The average air dodge comes out frame 3 (this is also the baseline for a move to be called a combo breaker, a hitbox/armor/intangibility on a move that starts frame 3 or earlier becomes as useful for getting out of combos as an airdodge) and the slowest air dodges, Dedede/Jigglypuff/etc come out frame 4.
Know your opponent though, the Sheik "50/50" exists because you can air dodge or jump after the down throw, but her double jump is usually faster than yours and she can still catch you with the up air. Her vanish's startup or delayed double jump up air will catch the air dodge. My main can just down b and get away scott free

The jump squat is how long it takes to get off the ground. Your character squats down when you input the jump, and at the end of the jump squat frames, your character is in the air and you can input aerials. During the jump squat frames, you're still on the ground and can do jump-cancelled things like up smash or up b. In the air jump comes out in one frame, it's how fast that particular character rises that decides how well it can escape combos. 2-3 frame after your jump, if your character doesn't rise fast enough, they can still get clipped by the opponents follow up where an air dodge will quickly put you in the safety (unless you get read af)

Buffer window is 9 frames. If you input a jump or an air dodge within the last 9 frames that you are in hitstun, it'll come out the first frame that you are out of hitstun. In brawl you could buffer a bunch of things at once like down throw, buffer jump and up air so both will be frame perfect. In melee you couldn't buffer and you had to be frame perfect on these types of things. In sm4sh, there's input priority. Special is higher priority than air dodge, air dodge is higher than attack, and attack is higher than jump. So if you press A, Y, R, and B in the buffer window, special is highest priority so the B input will come out. (this is actually used in option selects but that's kinda advanced)
Main thing to know from that is last 9 frames of hitstun you press jump or air dodge, if you press both air dodge comes out.

Yes. Same speed. Air dodge has 1-3 frames of startup where you're vulnerable but after that the intangibility starts. The first 1-3 frames of a jump might not take you high enough to get you out of the hit so it looks like the jump didn't come out (people knocked off stage during exchange this often say they lost their jump). You have to watch for the halo under the feet of your character that signifies the jump input came out.
It was only in Brawl that you could end hitstun faster. After (I think) 13 frames of hitstun, you could just air dodge and the hitstun is over. Removed in smash 4.

Jump cancels the shield in one frame and puts you in the jump squat. which is why if you really quickly press jump>up b, the progression is shield>jump squat>up b
If you are under shield stun though, you can't jump out of shield. You can however still buffer the jump. I mentioned you can only buffer one input though, so that's why the jump is buffered, but the up b isn't. (input priority doesn't apply to this situation since the up b isn't registered while you're still in shield, only during the jump squat frame) This wasn't a problem when shield stun was low since you you had to be ridiculously fast to input both jump and up b during the tiny amount of shield stun but now it's actually not too uncommon.

If you buffer the jump you can still do the up b but only during jump squat frames. The timing is tight though since you might stay in shield for a few frames after the jump input, and will only be in the jump squat for a few frames. That little delay would probably be unappreciated by anyone not familiar that it existed but it's a pretty cool timing trick.

Unless you do the jump canceled up b after the shield stun. You can input jump during shield stun, then wait for shield stun to end and then you'll get your normal 4-8 frames of jump squat (based on character) where you can input the up b.
