Feel free to discuss city building games from series such as Cities: Skylines, SimCity, Cities XL, Banished, Anno, Tropico, Pharaoh or any others.

Limit discussions to the games themselves. Meta posts such as "Why don't we discuss X game instead of Y?" aren't relevant to anything and don't contribute to the thread.

I bought Cities: Skylines recently and I'm quite lost.
I mean, my first city went on without a problem, I actually quit because there was no challenge.
My second took a nosedive for reasons I'm not all that sure why.
So, I'll give this thread a bump, while I think of any questions to create any discussion

Probably traffic. Everything in that game is traffic.

Yes, most likely a bad traffic issue. Hard to diagnose entirely without a picture of your roads though.

I'm debating if I want to get it. Especially since its 90 fucking dollars with the seasons pass if I want all the content. God damn fuck Harper this is all his fault for encouraging the retarded oil plan.

is rimworld alright here? i can't figure out how to get this prisoner to stop being unconcious, pistol wound to the brain is her only health concern. do i just harvest her organs/kill her or is there some form of research i can do so i can do a surgery?

game is damn fun, especially because i miss dwarf fort but no longer have the patience to get back into anything too complicated in it. just a trial run to get used controls and management for now so my shit is horribly organized for now, can't wait to actually get into my next colony.

son of a bitch, best bet is to harvest organs then? i can keep them in the freezer.

>>121228597
ive got about 15 hours in it now, and it is pretty comfy. visuals are fantastic, the day/night cycle is really comfy, especially out in the artic at night.

my biggest complaints are the changes to the trading system as well as the inability to stockpile supplies. if you overproduce a building supply, you are just wasting money, you cant store a large quantity of it until you need it.

>>121228597
None of the challenge that characterised the Anno series. If you just want to sit around building cities and supply chains then you'll like it but if you're like me and enjoyed the competition then you're shit out of luck. The fixed coastal and mountain slots as well as lack of work fields also really irks me, it just isn't Anno without massive servings of building placement autism.
>>
>>121229978
i agree on how much fixed placement of shit there is.

maybe im retarded but can you explain to me how trading with the global market works? Like I understand how to set up the trade route but i can't tell what my profit is going to be

Why are the "output" factories like rice farms and fruit plantations production upgrades god tier but "input" factories like biopolymer factories and vitamin condensers and wind farm production upgrades completely garbage? The space they take up is not worth the cost late game I bet. Wind farms because of the overlap is alright but the boost is really kinda shit unless they removed the additional resource cost. >ability to move buildings
Now you don't even need a fucking plan anymore. Anything mountain or coastal is served up to you on a plate (the module upgrades don't even take extra space) and should you need more adjacent space to add modules on other buildings you can just move the building.

>service buildings just produce an amount of the service, no more service AOE anymore
Arcti forces you to build all buildings within a certain range of heat sources because muh heating requirements but normal service buildings can be placed in bumfuck nowhere and still work.

Yeah, there's not much out there about how to do balanced stats. It doesn't help that the default parks aren't as consistent as they could be, but a lot of people are looking for balanced parks.

Personally, since you're basically replacing the default "Park with Trees", I'd suggest scaling the stats from that. Rounding off, I get:
8 x 12
Construction Cost: 3,000
Maintenance Cost: 24
Entertainment Accumulation: 80
Electricity Consumption: 32
Garbage Accumulation: 4

8 x 5
Construction Cost: 1,250
Maintenance Cost: 10
Entertainment Accumulation: 33
Electricity Consumption: 13
Garbage Accumulation: 2

8 x 3
Construction Cost: 750
Maintenance Cost: 6
Entertainment Accumulation: 20
Electricity Consumption: 8
Garbage Accumulation: 1

Those figures all scale neatly, so e.g. a 8 x 9 would have those stats three times that of an 8 x 3, while giving you parks that are nicely balanced with the default game. Hope that makes sense.

The rest of the stats can be left as they are. Entertainment Radius of 400 is standard across all default parks.

Anyway, that's what I'd do; of course, it's up to you!

Adding a bit more lore to the competing megacorps and the Orbital Watch would have made a huge difference. Part of what made Anno 2070 appealing for me was the whole Eden-Tycoon conflict, and even though I don't believe in manmade global warming I felt it was a very good and fair treatment of both enviromentalism and industrialist ideologies. It was fun being the Captain Planet villain and quashing those pitiful treehuggers.

In this the conflict isn't all that compelling. If anything, I want to play as the rebellious moon colonies and build a glorious city on the moon, independent of the tyranny of Terra.

Seriously though, how do you explain the rapid sea level rise of the last ~150 years, then?
>>
>>121301881
>How do I make money reliably

sell whatever your population/production doesn't need, e.g. excess materials. salt, charcoal, tools, iron, and wood for example are some things you'll typically have shit tons of that everyone will buy. if you have the honor check with the npcs for duty levies as well, they are nice.

control population advancement yourself and use manual ascension rights and trickle in nobles and patricians just enough to build their demands and trickle in more as your production gets better. plan ahead too because you're gonna need river slots, oriental materials, etc. so be prepared to open more routes.

There's this one game being made by a turkish dude called Northern Shadow that's an RPG with city-building, but it's medieval fantasy and not modern cities like C:S.

I've been following it for awhile but there hasn't been any proper news updates since July other than a few words on their forum from the dev saying how he was retooling the dialogue system to be more like an advanced version of Daggerfall's.

The lack of news posts is driving me crazy since it's something I'm really looking forward to.

After all, temp-art-luna already has working system, unless they change the entire sup-dem chain for city and colony, i do not see how things will change for better. There is climate change, but it's not man made. The world is constantly changing, see studies of old ice samples.

It has gone through many ice ages and heating periods before we even existed in our current form.

Ultimately there is no correct, default or natural state a thing can be in. It's only about whether we can survive in those states that matters, anything else is politics.

Rate my HQ in-construction.

Planning to remove farms and pretty much everything from that island and just build up, then add some investor skyscrapers in and stuff.

So, what are your thoughts on new Anno so far?

I like combat, but the way they implemented it here is really boring for some reason. I've started skipping it after a few missions.

I'm also not sure wheter placement of influence buildings actually matters. What I mean are stadiums, security stations, metro and so on. It seems if I just slap a few of them in a remote place, they work just fine as long as the total influence they give is enough for entire sector. Then again, I don't know if they are worth it really. I've tested this on healthcare centre on the Moon. My income was +87k, I've put the centre there (straight in the middle of the housing area), it dropped to +79k, but never really climbed past +81k.

>>
>>121352365
The market doesn't exist anymore.

Be happy that it exists at all.
>>
>>121352565
Nevermind, found the answer.

The influence buildings actually have to be placed centrally. They do provide the service to houses out of range of inflience, but the further away the house is, the more influence it consumes. So while you can be lazy and just slap them on the edges of town, it's actually more cost effective to plan them out and place them centrally.

I actually like this game a lot. It doesn't have hard restrictions on stuff, making it seem easier, but if you want to be efficient, then you do need to plan your shit.
>>

>I'm also not sure wheter placement of influence buildings actually matters. What I mean are stadiums, security stations, metro and so on. It seems if I just slap a few of them in a remote place, they work just fine as long as the total influence they give is enough for entire sector

it does, the closer it is to the people that require it the more influence it produces, it works like the logistics system

Make sure you upgrade your production buildings before you make new ones. That's where you get most cost effectiveness from.
>>
>>121319330
Well, if your problem is that even with new people, you can't satisfy all the needs, you obviously either need to optimize your production more (upgrades and modules or whatever those new things are called) or you need to keep some of the new population at a lower level so they don't have as many needs and can satisfy the needs of the higher ranked ones.

Also consider that in real life not everyone is at the top of society. I think it should be possible to satisfy everyone's needs properly in Anno, but if you aren't able to right now, you could keep with that.

>>121366265

the atmosphere is not very large or thick at all though, and we add 40 gigatons of co2 annually. That's like a big permanent volcano at the least.

>>
>>121370008
Make the rivers deeper and adjust the height of your water sources so that they don't overflow.
>>
>>121373373
The rivers are already at 0 my land is at default 60.
>>
>>121373472
Then it is the size and height of your water source.

Remove them completely and set them to 0.5 or below and adjust the height so there is no overflow.

It will just take some fine tuning.

The atmosphere has mass of 5 150 000 giga tons, of which only 0.04% is co2, so 2060 giga tons of co2.

It would take over a thousand years of current co2 production to get co2 to 1%, which unless you start importing fossil fuels from space or some very deep mining, will be physically impossible.

DLC will bring in more content, but it's a shame that they release a game game with half the features than the last one and DLC the rest

who said anything about that arbitrary number?
>>
>>121382585
Which arbitrary number, the 1%? That's where you start actually feeling some very mild effects of co2 intoxication. Anything lower is urban indoors tier.
>>
>>121313196

Fuck man, goosebumps... Used to play like when I was 10 years old and I'm 22. I had none to very little English by that time. I had no Idea what I was doing. You just made me started downloading it again

Know any good maps with really high mountains? They can have very little space to build as well, i want to build a comfy mountain village in cities skylines

How is Banished? I like Dwarf Fortress but can barely play it.

300k+ population and 50k+ income.

All i need to do now is spam buildings and buy off the rest of the islands without any management.

I hope they'll add more endgame stuff and that i'll be able to research shit like in anno 2070 cause now it's really easy to manage resources.

i really dislike the fact that once things are running you could basically go afk and itd still be going when you come back

in previous titles random shit could fuck you up so you had to constantly readjust
>>
>>121399317

Yes and it would've been nice if they added natural disasters invaders and some insanely expensive monuments, It feels like all there is left is to make your city aestheticly pleasing but it's impossible when everything is locked to a grid.

M8 I was referring to a very specific portion of that graph, the portion describing the last couple of thousands of years before today. Those are visibly very stable for the sea level, until about ~150 before today, when the sea level starts rising again, continuing through today with a couple millimeters per year. I was commenting on how this start of sea level rise coincides with the start of the industrial revolution. You could say that after a couple thousand years of no difference, the sea level started rising again naturally, but it does seem suspicious that it coincides exactly with the industrial revolution, doesn't it?

That graph of yours goes over hundreds of millions of years, by the way, which is completely out of scale for this event. And I didn't pick some tiny part of a graph, I picked the immediately relevant one, the one that directly precedes our present situation.

The team is signed up and has been accepted to play. I'll try to prepare everything for the export (updated players, tactics, and possibly aesthetics) done sometime soon. However the Autumn Cup also happening right now makes it harder.

I might expand the tactics a bit and maybe even be around for games to do subs and adjust tactics, but since I can't test and don't know what I'm doing, a simple pastebin instruction may be better. The team will probably do bad anyways.

>>121404071
I like the roster the way it is, but I could put him in Tree Limit's place, since there does tend to be some turbine discussion once in a while.

I thought something like "Anno 2205 Schism" might work (if you know a better word tell me), to highlight the new direction and how it puts off some players but improves it for others.
>>
>>121410142
The schism seems to be the most notable thing about 2205, so that works.

I don't actually have C:S since my PC would probably explode, but googling your post gives me http://www.skylineswiki.com/User_path .

I'm not sure what could even be used for which player, though. I had a couple ideas for other players that I'd like to see made, but I don't really have any Skylines-related ideas.
