Honestly, considering that you won't have a Critical Art every round (unlike in SFIV where you get an Ultra every round), it's not so bad. What annoys me is that every Critical Art except Ryu and Dhalsim's are cinematics that kick in as soon as they land. I suppose the more creative ideas were instead made into V-Triggers (Rashid, Gief, Mika, Vega), but still it's a lot.

The issue is they space them so that if you jab immediately/dp, they block it because they are blocking the first frame. theres such a minute window that it seems to always work.
backdash/tech are passive reactions and lead to getting cornered, this is what i already do on my rose. This is actually why i only play rose ATM, because I haven't figured out how to beat these sporadic
non-combo attacks that aren't blockstrings.
all right, so I need to maintain patience and just back off/block until we are both neutral. Its so E Z to punish it with rose ex spiral through I was wondering if any1 else in the cast can mash an invincible move that reaches further than average shoto DP. I know seth has EX DP but thats super unsafe on block, whereas rose can get away with an ex spiral at a far enough range.
thanks, i didn't know those were what frametraps are (no sarcasm). everyone I face online from 0pp to 2000pp constantly uses frame traps (i reset my rank yesterday to try new characters). I get wrekt by them on ANY character except rose because I can max an ex soul spiral for an easy knockdown, and its hard for scrubs to punish.
I'll play way more calm and defensive after you guys explained it more. It kills me to get in with akuma/gief/eryu, and because i suck, i just get jabbed away 9 out of 10 times.
I've lost so many games to frametraps at all levels that i raged back to rose.
I feel like if I want to contest them with whiff punish, I have to understand what normals punish which attacks, which is a tremendous investment on a 2nd char.

CAs are honestly closer to ultras in this game than supers in everything else, you can just super cancel. They're as slow as ultras and juggle like (good) ultras.
Being slow is pretty crap too, considering they build about the same rate as in IV. Like in IV with Chun Li EX SBK was a crap reversal but if you were patient you got a super that could reversal anything. In V EX SBK is still crap and not using it gets you a super that's even worse.

If you're interested in playing an ArcSys fight game, BlazBlue isn't a bad choice to start with. If it's too hard, there's the generally easier fighter Persona, on the other end you can pick up Xrd. There's an ingame tutorial & challenge, I imagine they help newcomers a bit.

BP is literally "how long and how many wins do you have with character". That's why you can see absolute shitters with high BP and low PP. They just scrub out guys that don't know how to play and constantly accumulate since you don't lose much BP after losing
BB was designed to be pretty newbie friendly, although P4A went even further than that to make it playable for RPG fans.
Problem is that BB is now old enough and has had so many fucking rereleases the player base and the games have gotten more hardcore and you will likely get facefucked online without knowing a lot of stuff.
SEGA should have the Virtua Fighter team make a Yakuza game that's similar to VF. It'd sell better than an actual VF game would, and would probably get localized since fighting games don't have a lot of text.

USFIV, at least for the past 6 weeks or so. I'm starting to get a hang of the basics, although I haven't delved too far into combos or the technical side yet. The main problem is I hate the visuals and the character designs so I'm finding it tedious to sit down and play. I wouldn't mind jumping over to something more appealing like GG or KoF.

How do I anti-air? I feel like every time I try it end up losing. At best I get a trade at worse I lose. I also feel the risk of even attempting to dp as anti-air is too much and it makes me hesitate unless I have meter to guarantee success.

Learn to open the stick and remove the parts. You'll need to do that to replace them anyway. Take the cap off of the offending button and see if there's any junk in there or deformed plastic

Somehow I didn't realize how much better of a job SFV does of feeling like a decent fighting game until I tried to play SFIV again.

dp if they jump at you, otherwise just block until they start applying pressure
mash dp while blocking, let the game decide when to block and when to go through with the dp

I can see Juri getting a version of her Feng Shui engine as her V-Trigger since a lot of other characters have temporary steroid triggers as well.
It's hard to imagine Urien without an Aegis Reflector, but since I doubt that will be his Critical Art, he'll probably get it as a V-Trigger.
I think it'd be interesting to see Alex get his Stun Gun Headbutt as his Trigger.

Balrog has TAP for V-Skill, can combo after headbutts and increased stun on moves
Ibuki's V-Skill is a smoke bomb that can be cancelled into a dash which goes through the opponent and her V-Trigger has her make a shadow clone that mirrors her actions.
Guile's V-Skill is his upsidedown kick which is an overhead and causes crush counter. V-Trigger is double sonic booms.
You're not meant to actually be able to beat Milia Blocker though. The whole purpose of Milia Blocker is to show you that supposedly 'godlike reactions' are mostly due to good reads. Nobody can actually consistently block Millia's mixups on reaction.
Its only when you remove the human element from the equation with Milia Blocker that these things become crystal clear in the minds of stubborn people.

His V-Trigger should allow him to KO with chip damage using his specials. That alone would give him a decent advantage, but you could up the damage/starup on Sonic Boom/Flash Kick for the duration as well.

It's not fun, whether I win or lose. It's a fucking nightmare to play around them and the other player is on autopilot, so it's like fighting an AI instead of a player. I've never played such an unfun competitive game in my life.

I can't obviously cover everything so some really basic shit about footsies and good things to throw out
-EX DP (rising kick thing) is a decent reversal and can be made basically safe with SA1 even on whiff if you use the DP motion as part of the super motion
-Slide (down-forward medium kick) is very good, can be used to do things like parry first part of a multi-hitting projectile then you just slide to go under it (works on everything except Akuma SA1), approaching, going under jump-ins...
-Jumping straight up is a pretty good option in neutral, you can throw out kunai close to the ground to keep the opponent at a distance or do your heavy punch -> toward medium kick target combo which is godlike
-Parrying a jump-in, then using HK, time MK on falling enemy -> cancel the normal into command dash (lk) is very good
-Ibuki's EX moves are mostly very useful so SA1 is what you want for the meter (SA1 is also good, does a shit ton of chip damage)
-Ibuki's throw range is garbage but her walkspeed is not and throwing is a very big part of your gameplan
-Abuse toward + HK on opponents that aren't too small to be hit by it crouching from afar (there are a lot of stupid hitbox things with Ibuki vs certain characters, better get used to changing your moves depending on the enemy). Does a fuck ton of stun and damage, Akuma killer move.

I simply lack the patience against this type of player. I once beat a guy 3 times that played like this, then I just closed the game because it was exhausting and felt horrendously tedious trying to break my way through his nonstop mixup of true and false strings.
I've lost all motivation to improve, despite lots of recent improvement. I've been playing since april and I'm starting to hate the game the more I play ranked and encounter these 2000pp autopilot players that don't adjust to anything. Every 30th person I fight is fun and I add them.
What I'm trying to say is this: It feels like there are certain characters in this game that can be used to "turn off" 90% of the game and turn it into a guessing game. even "legit footsies" characters like yun can pressure with such intensity, they can just mix true and false blockstrings together and abuse your lack on 1-5 frame response. They can be ass at 90% of the game and hit 2500pp playing like shit. You can see this shit on excellent adventures all the time.
I don't give 2 shits about abusing gimmicks online, they are easy to beat in sf4. I have serious issues with frametraps having 1 or 2 frame punish windows, especially if i have to input a DP, SPD, ultra etc. Even a backdash is fucking ridiculous unless you're mashing it.

I don't play either character but I've got like a billion hours in Skullgirls so I'll try to help.
First off, assists you'll want either Napalm Pillar or Napalm Shot for Parasoul and MK or LK Hornet Bomber for Double.
Parasoul's biggest strength is her strong mid-range control with Tears and giant fucking disjointed normals of doom. Her usual approach is to frustrate the opponent with fireballs and then, when they try to move forward you go in on them with either j.LP buffered into j.HP or dash forward cr.LK buffered into cr.MK. She also has the best air throw in the game and meterless conversions off of her ground throw from anywhere on the stage.
Her dashes are amazing and let you move forward quickly while pressing buttons or blocking. Also don't neglect dash-jumping. If you cancel a dash into a forward jump or super jump the dash gains additional momentum. She can threaten to be up in your opponent's face at any given moment.
Once you're in you've got two standing overheads, a standing low, 2 more comboable lows and an excellent command crossup so she has no trouble opening up her opponents.
Her main weaknesses are shitty damage and weak air mobility.
I made an error and the correct command dash to use in that situation is MK, usually LK is better (for example meaty MK -> lk version of command dash into throw is good)
