* Yes, Lab Zero would indeed be forced to shut down. They've put all their eggs in one basket on this one by spending their ressources on developing the prototype. It's not that grim and dire, since all of the people at Lab Zero have incredible credentials and any bigger studio would pick them up in a heartbeat, but it would mean that they would stop making their own unique games.

They can, but they'd lose some things in the process. Mike even stated that he was veryimpressed by the freedom and monetary deal they got from 505 games without full publisher support. If they Lab Zero went for full funding from publishers they'd probably have to tone down the sexiness, whitewash most of the cast for whatever game they're making and they'd have no community involvement like they did in Skullgirls and currently have in Indivisible.

I second this. And it should be more than obvious coming from Skullgirls's success.
If it was a brawler instead of a turn-based JRPG or had plenty of pretty girls in skimpy outfits it'd probably be funded already.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to make different games and pursuing new audiences (as long as you don't shit on your current one), but i have the feeling Lab Zero set itself to fail by trying to do it with a perhaps too ambitious crowdfunding campaign instead of starting with a smaller game and having a publisher fund it instead of asking for a huge sum of money by video game crowdfunding standards.

It was a mistake on Lab Zero's part to assume they'd get this crowdfunded when the project lacks elements that appeal to their existing fanbase (as opposed to Mike Z's imaginary target audience, who clearly doesn't care about this as much as he had expected).

it isn't like other games don't do this. lots of games restrict what 'random' can be based on what's unlocked or minor variations that would cause what would basically be one stage to show up way more often than any other.

Again when people play sets against each other random is usually picked because they don't like to fight in the same stage where it gets stale multiple times in a row. I always get an impression Mike Z cares more about this project than the rest of them, personally. I think the kind of characters those artists liked to draw (lewd) are severely lacking in this game, and honestly maybe Lab Zero would be better off disbanded. Mike can pursue getting his work taken "seriously", and Mariel and co. can go back to drawing cool shit instead of what feels incredibly uninspired compared to Lewdgirls. Mike says Thorani was redone, as was Yan and such, and I can't help but wonder what those characters would have actually been and if that isn't happening to more of their incarnations.

Bring back the titties, panty shots, and lewd Skullgirls was so colorful for. The detailed animation just isn't as fun to watch, even if it's a prototype.

Maybe they really should've worked on Skullgirls more or done a spinoff instead of something new so soon. I believe Lab 0 also stated SG art format isn't quite like Indivisible so it would stand out so this is why your not seeing them porting a bunch of existing SG characters as incarnations assuming Autumn Games gave the go ahead.

Among the updates to SG over the years some panty shots and such were removed, some people close to or on the team have made vaguely diversity endorsing comments which triggers /v/. I think honestly /v/ is looking for a reason why the game failed, because it did so much 'right' in /v/'s eyes for a crowd funding campaign. People had no issue supporting Shantae because it actually looked interesting and was sexy.

Simply put...he's acting like an entitled little twat who thinks he deserves people's money, is trying to guilt trip people into buying in and removing all the things from this game that Skullgirls was known for. These are the only criticisms that are valid in that they're opinions and are relevant to the actual game. Everything else is just petty nitpicking over things you think Mike Z has said. Why does the campaign need to fail and the company dissolved because of ways he's offended you? It's not like they're suffering under his influence. They're there because they want to be there and it's probably the only place they can draw the things like like to draw. And even THEN they like to draw porn and some really weird personal stuff that would never make it into any game ever anyway.

People have to realize that IGA had an inherent advantage that was legitimately gained by working on CVs since forever and people will be more willing to trust such a campaign. Plus they already know what the gameplay will be like and that they like said gameplay without even needing to play a prototype. With Indivisible, LZ has put out one game before that: Skullgirls, a fighter, and Indivisible is a very different kind of game. Thus, people do not quite know what they're getting and how the gameplay feels without playing the prototype, and let's face it, a ton of people will just not bother to download the proto out of laziness.

games like Skullgirls are 60fps only because the engine forces it to be 60fps. anything animated in 2D is never animated on actual 60fps, and what i mean by that is that it's unfeasible to actually draw anywhere near 60 frames for every second of motion.

in Skullgirls every animation has on average around 10 frames. when you speed that up really fast things start looking weird (mostly due to strobing), which is why Skullgirls has a ton of smears. at 24fps it's reasonable to consider animating on 1's, but at 60fps every frame becomes more expensive.

The actual 2D animations did not play one frame every 60th of a second though, they would play the individual frames at different rates depending on what the developer decided. for example, a character could have a simple, 2 frame walk cycle and it holds on each frame for 30 frames. So the character will move around on the screen very smoothly at 60fps, but his actual character animations will look very jerky and basic.

Mariel has stated before that they animate at 'around 30fps' for Skullgirls so this means that typically, each frame of animation is displayed twice while the game is running at 60fps. So the characters will move around the screen at 60fps, but their animation frames will be playing at 30fps or less.

There's no information to look up. Where do you think the info is stored about SMB or the like that says "this runs at 60 fps." The only reason people think it runs at 60 fps is due to emulators, and emulators are displaying virtual FPS. If they were displaying real FPS then every time you got too many enemies on the screen in say metroid the fps count would actually drop as the game slows down. I literally don't know any of the Indie Avengers outside of Annie and Juan but I'm pretty hype for Juan. Played the Remix edition when it came out on PS+ and had a blast, I presume the announcer will be doing his voice overs.

No, what the other guy was saying was Skullgirls is not ANIMATED at 60 fps. It's animated at 24 but the game itself does run at 60. Basically it's the same as if you use SVP to make your anime "60 fps." That doesn't mean there are actually 60 frames per second in the video file now suddenly. It just means it's taking the 24 fps the anime is at and is interpolating extra frames to make it run at 60 fps. If it were actually animated at 60 it would look FAR, FAR better than just using interpolation, but it is very expensive because now animators would have to draw 60 frames for every second of footage instead of 24.

Eh I use SVP to watch a lot of anime in 60 fps and it doesn't give me headaches. Generally what you're experiencing is the "weird out" feeling that Hobbitbros got when they watched it in 48fps. to me i think it just doesn't look right. it's not what the animators intended for the viewer to see. this obsession with "smooth" framerates i think comes from the wrong place. 2D is not 3D and should not try to be. there is a reason that the sakuga animators do what they do and rarely stray from the formula. plus they don't have time so computers would have to fill in all the gaps.

Well the thing is, with a lot of Japanese console games, the devs never intended for you to see it at higher than 30 fps, but PC gamers want it that way. Also, take some effects PC gamers tend to hate like artificial motion blur. The PC version will let you turn it off, but it's likely the dev intended the game to have it. And don't even get me started on chromatic aberration which is a fucking abortion that seems to be all the rage in game dev circles now. Basically, the creator is not the final word on his/her work. Other people may want to experience it differently than he/she/they intended.

Nah, I'm comparing stills to stills. I've never played skullgirls, never read about its story, never listened to voice clips or read about the personality or moveset of any of the characters. Goddamn, you right about that. I thought we'd be lucky to get $644k tonight, but we just might get to $650k by 9AM EST. The PS4 demo, Annie and the guest characters really did the trick. Too bad the first days of the campaign weren't strong enough. Now we've really got a lot of work ahead of us if we're going to hit 1.5 million.
