HPM, I'm that anon who was doing an Ottomans game from a couple days ago. I've noticed that the Mahdists in Sudan and the Arab Revolt events are spammy as fuck, and should definitely be handled.

The Mahdists are the worst by far. I haven't tried it with other nations, but I imagine any nation that owns Sudan can get them, which means that in every game those events are firing like crazy. I annexed Egypt to the center in about 1845, and the Mahdists started fucking around in the late '40s. It's currently 1915, and I think I've just stopped getting them. But the only reason that happened at all is because I finally turned Sudan into a state. And that only happened because the Mahdist event kept raising militancy at such a high rate that that colonial tension/open revolt event (the one that allows you to select between intervening immediately for limited loss of life or intervening eventually for higher loss of life but a big loss in militancy) kept firing, and I wound up depopulating Sudan. No province in the region has more than 20k people, and it's over 15% Turkish in most provinces. A revolt that's been going on for about 60 years which has caused the total depopulation of a state is fucking insane.

Arab Revolt isn't much better, especially for the AI. It can fire even when you're a GP, the event for it pops up all the time and forces you to choose between high militancy and moderate militancy with a loss of prestige (which is an irrelevant decision, since the arab states are so depopulated that the revolt is completely worthless at best; all it would serve to do is further neuter an AI Ottomans who might choose the -4 prestige part of the decision each time the event fired), and that pop-up happens multiple times a year. Fucking absolutely pointless in states with a grand total of 50k POPs at best.

IMO the Mahdist revolt or the Arab revolt should be represented by breakaway states, which would completely avoid the event part of it entirely.

I did an Egypt->Arab Union game and eventually got an event that disabled them, I also played a France game where I didn't get that event, so I think the problem is the "stop" event not working for anyone but Egypt.


As for the Arab revolt, 1x tespectfully disagree. The Arabs revolting was a major factor in bringing down the Ottoman Empire for good, it needs to be OP as fuck.

Yes, I probably should've proof read that, but all of them could technically end up owned by uncivs at one point of the game or another without player interference. They can end up being owned by Hyderabad, Trinidad, Trucial States, Maharashtra, Yemen, Kongo, Ashanti and Oman easily, some of them even already start owned by these uncivs like the later three. If these nations aren't puppets and end up owning these provinces for a while without westernizing, you should be able to take them by force as treaty ports. Same thing could co to Saigon from Vietnam.

And for a player, the prestige loss is even optional, so they're not even going to suffer a fall from GP unless they're actively always selecting that option.

The Arab Revolt should form an Arab state with absolutely massive mobilization modifiers and should generally increase Ottoman militancy and was exhaustion; it should make their troops fight worse, make them fight on another front, and provide a real challenge for the Ottoman state. As it is now, revolts will never even happen.

10 stewardship gets you 50% more demesne, 10 martial gets you 100% more troops. Combined that's a huge bonus. Diplomacy gives you tons of income and troops the more vassals you have. Intrigue doesn't get huge benefits to having it high, but 0 intrigue is pretty much asking to be murdered so you want it at least decent. Learning is the dump stat. Oh wow, after 100 years I might have only have a 10% weaker troops, -2 relations with vassals and slightly less income. Big deal.

I'm talking about the province Oman owns in the UAE peninsula, when we make a punitive expedition against Oman the way it is currently, it'll just show Gwandar as a treaty port, and Zanzibar if it still owns it. That single province in the peninsula isn't avalible.

Question for HPM or anyone else with modding experience: how do I change the shape of provinces on the map? I don't want to add new ones, I just want to change the shape of existing ones. I know I need to go into provinces.bmp and just use the color picker and then draw new borders, but after doing that my game wouldn't load. What else needs to be done?

PS, I already refreshed map cache.

HPM, how do you turn a small/illiterate nation into a GP? I've tried a couple of games as Peru and while I'm always second the the US in America, my military is pathetically small and I only get 1 national focus basically forever so literacy is pretty slow too. Despite spending a lot of time encouraging soldiers my army is quite small too. Best I've been is 10th.
