The navy planes are pretty terrible compared to the USAF, you lose out on your only good ASFs and bombers by specializing into marine. NORAD moto still keeps those planes and only really loses out on the Hornets (while keeping the longbow as well) so for the marine deck the air tab isn't really much of an advantage,

mainly the engine, I don't mind the graphics but every little thing about it is just slightly off or broken, from the map taking 3 seconds to open, to the ridiculous deviation system (and yes I understand why they had to do it)

playing insurgency just really highlights how terrible the gunplay is in PR, compared to what it could be


not only that but often you can just get into a bad squad that either disintegrates under poor leadership, or gets wiped and never really comes back into the game, or just spends the entire round marching round the map never actually doing anything

when things go right its really good, an amazing unique experience
but its overshadowed by the issues to me

Yeah the gunplay is about as fine as it can get on the engine really.

Bad squads are also a problem, I find that I can lose a round but have fun with a good squad almost every time. Don't often do the latter just travelling the map though.

I honestly wish that I could get some sort of excitement for Squad but I don't think it will be successful, not to mention the 200 player server tests were easily the best experiences i've ever had in PR.

I love milsim games and have been playing Insurgency for months now. Just recently found Project Reality and began playing.

The little bugs and things in the engine don't bother me too much because the real payoff is the scope and features of the game itself.

Whats the deviation system you mentioned? I haven't had a chance to dig deep into the broader features yet, still learning my way around infantry roles and squad stuff.

The leadership thing is also true, and the game shines when you have a good group, but this can also swing the other way and you have control-freak basement officers who scream at people and act like they're in Delta Force. That annoys the shit out of me as I'm an Army vet and don't like listening to some whiny shit tell me how to do CQB or move in formation.

I am surprised you have ever hit anything with your rifle then.
Because it is impossible to implement scope sway into BF2 engine what they did was implement invisible scope sway

basically after you move, or change from standing to prone, or sprint, or jump your gun is really inaccurate and slowly gains accuracy over a few seconds, same thing after every shot

they are adding a HUD indicator in the new update today I think

I'm certainly hoping it succeeds, though. I think Unreal engine was a good choice.

Part of what I love about a lot of milsim games, mods, etc.. is that they prioritize the features and realism of the game instead of graphics.

As an older gamer, I'm very willing to put up with less than cutting-edge graphics for a richer gameplay and feature experience. Not very many big companies will go this route, though, and I think a lot of modern games suffer for it.

Mostly why I dropped it. My group always pigeon holed me into squad lead because they were too lazy, but it never matters. Pubs, friends, no one ever fucking listens and just picks whatever kit they want before lone-wolfing and then crying for a medic while being 100m away.

I just got tired of the trash community after awhile. The teamwork is non-existant in a game that can only function with teamwork in the first place. The game is essentially unplayable 90% of the time. It gets worse whenever a patch comes out and brings in a bunch of new/returning people too.

Denmark and Norway are the 2 most viable 40% minors. DLC 3 did wonders by giving them 2000's equipment to fill all their old deck holes.

I'd say Denmark/Norway National is more viable than say, the Czech or Japan.

Japan really should be a 40% country, their deck is so lacking in so many ways. All they do in BD is provide the koreans a couple gap-filler units. The vast majority of a BD deck is Korean.

Then blue dragons can be bumped up to 25% bonus avail.

Czech are missing SEAD, Tanks other than Dyna and Moderna are overpriced. Infantry tab has to rely on Grantomets against infantry. Infantry tab has no high-power launchers other than 7VR. Czech have better coverage than Norway/Denmark, but the Scandinavian units are better as a whole.

On the other hand, I took a look at Japan national and holy shit they are missing so much. Literally the worst air tab in the game.

CH HOTAS owner here.

Build quality is retardedly amazing. This shit won't break ever and it's easy as fuck to open it up to do maintenance if you need to. Just be sure to get the whole HOTAS set and not just the stick, as it doesn't have twist and the little throttle rotary wouldn't be as good as the throttle unit to use.

It may be old as shit but it's a proven, solid HOTAS system. Unlike the X-52 anyway.

It's accessible. I don't play other RTS games and I appreciate how Wargame doesn't demand Starcraft 2 levels of APM or micro. It doesn't have basebuilding either. All of this gives it an "easy to play, difficult to master" kind of vibe.

The recon/sead/aa/tanks/atgm/arty/infantry etc. dynamic works REALLY well.

It's sorta realistic, there's a lot of bullshit (maybe even too much depending on you) but isn't nowhere near as bad as something like World in Conflict. It's close enough for me and it's lovely seeing all the nicely modeled units fighting it out, it's pretty. Also nationalism.

Current 1v1 meta is pretty varied, but recon bradley is a big player, and a US unit. Aside from that, the whole US recon tab is a miracle really.

Patriots are obviously god, and if you go norad your tanks go from decent to best in the game. DAPs are the best AA helo in the game, the only thing that has a chance of trading equally with them is chinese and thus never seen in 1v1.

The only real drawback is their antihelo AA and subpar fighters.

For the little I flew I liked it. Having different channels for people doing different things would be helpful. I also like the idea of the progression system where you have to destroy bunkers or units for the main force to start advancing again. The best part was the music. Good work so far.

It was pretty good. The music was a nice touch but the load time was a bit much, I'd prefer if you chose a set number of songs and played them all instead of the songs bring randomly chosen.

Multiple areas of operation would be nice so that we could fly in squads of 2 or 3 and cut down radio chatter. No civ traffic won't magically fix our frame rates but it would probably help a little. Some targets for fighter jets would be great.

Overall I thought the mission concept was cool but maybe we should try setting up a dedicated server before we play missions of that scale desu. I'd be willing to put in 10 bucks. Was hesitant at first but you guys are a cool group of dudes and flying together is the most fun I've had with video games in a while.

Adding onto this.

Your scenario trigger timer should be based on a trigger in proximity to the area of operations (Perhaps give everyone an IP waypoint and have the trigger zone that spawns the initial enemies based on that trigger being activated, rather than having it based on time since start)

Far too many boats, use a handful, not sure if there are any actual amphibious landing craft to use but even the boats are the wrong kind to be doing that kind of shit, but that's just something we're going to have to put up with (Or simply have the armour already deployed and use a trigger to begin them moving)

Split the blufor ground forces up and/or reduce them. Have 2-3 clusters of 4~ vehicles, rather than one massive vee formation of 30 vehicles. Perhaps have these formations staggered so they aren't all wiped out if they run into bother.

Utilise late activation for reinforcements or ambushes only, any regular enemy elements should be visible from the start. If you want to prevent players from attacking them prematurely, hide them beneath AA cover that is scripted to be destroyed, that doesn't spawn in the same place each time, or simply have bigger threats to the ground forces nearer so players will be forced to ignore them (have AI F-18s flying in circles off the coast indefinately, but have the AA installations set to be destroyed through triggers rather than relying on the AI to do their job, which they won't do)

Far too much music, if you want to have any music at all have it be set songs rather than randomised (choice of 4), and you can essentially cut the mission file size by close to 75%.

Perhaps have it so one flight is dedicated to close air support and protecting the armoured column from tank threats and ambushes, and a secondary flight who's role is more interdiction (attacking artillery that is hitting the column from a distance, taking out tank columns before they reach the combat zone).

Having two seperate flights, one doing CAS while the other does interdiction, adds replayability as you have entirely different tasking (moreso if there's some randomisation in what you're sent to interdict/destroy).

It splits the groups up, meaning there is less danger in collisions and attacks can be more coordinated, people cycling in and out for guns runs rather than people just flying in and doing whatever the fuck they want, hitting other aircraft with the explosion damage because they didn't know bombs were going off, etc.

Also splits the AI up, meaning there is potentially less of a performance hit, although I'm not sure if the distances you want to split the flights up would be large enough to make this beneficial.

Hide enemies in towns and forests so they aren't as easy to spot and kill. They all seemed to spawn out in the open, either on roads or in flat fields, there wasn't even any need to use targetting pods to scout, let alone use buddy lasing and sharing SPIs to help other wingmen find targets. Simply hiding enemies would allow you to increase mission length without saturating the area with more AI, decreasing the frame hit.

Changes I've made:
I THINK I FIXED THE LAG, FUCK ABRAMS
Cut music in half, nearly 66%, filesize halved.
Reduced blufor invasion force to 10 vehicles (6 LAV-25's and 4 ATGM Strykers)
Changed some songs.
Sped invasion armor up
Fixed trigger timings with the airfield (no more sochi-less takeovers)
That's all I can remember for now. Only way to test lagfix is to host with players, because so far hosting with just me playing showed it was fixed, but whatever.

Got a naval mission in the works.

The idea is you play us Russians (redfor), and your based from a carrier group. Russia is currently blockading Georgia from the black sea. There's a Hungarian (neutral) cargo ship on its way through the Black Sea to dock somewhere in Georgia. The vessel is supposed to be searched in case it's being used to transport weapons.

One of you flies a huey or mi-8 from a frigate to the cargo ship and unloads a group of extremely elite operators. A countdown starts as the operators search the ship. Meanwhile American jets are scrambled from Georgia to the cargo ship. At this point us players take off from the carrier in Su-33's (or air spawn in Su-27s in case people don't have all the FC3 aircraft) and have to take out the American jets while the ship is searched.

I think it wouldn't be that hard to make, just a trigger to initiate the 'search' on the cargo ship. American jets could be manually spawned through the radio menu, meaning the mission could be played with various amounts of people.

I have more ideas for it but I'm interested in what you guys think.

You can put US and Russia on red and everyone else on blue if you choose, that's what the little arrows are in the menu that pops up when you create a new mission is.

X-Plane 10. A civilian flight simulator like FSX but more realistic.
In fact it's so realistic people design planes on it, and it's more of an engineering/pilot training tool than a game.

I recently reinstalled all my old flight sims and downloaded a bunch of free aircraft from the community site. That Kfir is an alpha work in progress of a payware, hence it got no cockpit panel whatsoever.
Yet it flies like a charm.

If your radar is in interleaved PRF (which you will be by default when you take off) you will often detect targets at long range that you cannot lock. I recall an old 80s text I read once, which was the basis for the development of the ATF iirc (YF-22, YF-23), the author basically went LOL IT DOESN'T WORK on anything radar related.
Radar has lots of problems ie ground clutter, beam manouvers for doppler radars (google how different a doppler radar is2long2 explain), and most importantly countermeasures for a $ 200k missile are incredibly cheap and effective.

Basically it runs out radio waves are a very poor for imaging at long distances, who could have thought.

Also the missile itself has its limits, regardless of guidance, some are not even that trivial to spot, I remember the USNavy textbook for fighter pilots,

has entire chapters dedicated to the correct employment of missiles and in no point it threats them as unfallible win buttons like the propaganda sells them.

the F35 was born as a pure bomber, because the F22's bays weren't big enough to carry 2x2000lb LGBs, what teh F117 was built for, but F117s were literally falling apart due to the frequent use they made of the stealth bomber novelty.
