Just found a whole bunch of Rance images from /a/ drawfags
Seems like Sen was popular back in the day
Like half of it is Sen
Can't complain about that since she is the best girl
The tags are annoying
Sengoku_Rance is what most are tagged under
but some are under Rance or Rance_Series
And Masou_Shizuka and Masou Shizuka are different tags
I might go through and tag things properly
Doesn't look like it can be done. Need special privileges to tag, probably because of people tagging other peoples waifus
So do I.
Rance probably would have a very high independent action rank, which would mean if he didn't like an order you forced on him, you're shit out of luck because he can just go find a different master. Or even wouldn't need one depending on how high it is.
and the way to escape his master would be to kill the master. which is bad.
>great person maris
>oyako best remake
>Take other people's translations and upload them themselves with the original games, their torrents spread everywhere. Basically, people will forget who actually translated them.
>Their own translators are extremely incompetent who can't read, because "I watched enough anime to understand".
their downloads are notoriously unreliable, generally due to just providing pre-installed stuff.
Which is always inferior to installing the game yourself.
And they blatantly encourage machine translations but that is a separate matter
MT everything poorly, which isn't saying much I guess because MT is MT.
"their" releases usually other people's works re-uploaded, but out of date, have bugs you'd never find otherwise and generally worse than just finding other versions yourself.
Just for example, Sengoku Rance Fuwanovel has saving problems installing it yourself doesn't have. Fuwanovel also has strange bugs like Rance being susceptible to assassinate type skills.
I had it backwards >>120935697
Rance becoming immune to assassinations is something that was added in a patch
Describes /haniho/ at least
I'm pretty sure every nation can take multiple actions on harder difficulties. It's only a blitz if there are events.
Maria's breasts are massive in that cg. Like, gigantic. They're never that big anywhere else, are they?
She actually looks pretty damn impressive and even competent here. End game boss! Kanami! The demon king!
The last boss of the first game and the last boss of the last game. It is fitting.
I can see her giving demon king kayblis the last strike (as she tended to do in Rance 03) and getting sprayed by Demon King blood.
Pretty sure it appeared when he kissed Saika. The shadow over the face he clearly has in his portrait is pretty dumb, if he's going to have a face then just show it.
Apparently Alicesoft reserved half the tables.
Pascha takes place in the future where all other eroge companies have gone bankrupt and Alicesoft only manages to stay afloat by constantly remaking Escalayer and the Dai games.
The opening shows his face. We get plenty of clear looks at it throughout the game. The fact that they put a shadow over his still very visible face is completely stupid.
>if he's going to have a face then just show it.
Agreed. They do it in Yoru ga Kuru too. It's not like I'm going to project myself on him anymore if his face is a little bit harder to see.
That's also how I feel about partially voicing the protagonist. If you're going to give him a voice, why not give it to them for the whole game?
The opposite of their personalities is being dead?
But Sill's already so bland she basically already is dead.
I reckon Pastel Chime is something that could do well for MG.
It's also got an All Ages version so could be released on steam and the Rina harem anime cliches are popular with the weab steam crowd.
Alicesoft may have forgotten Io but America has not
Probably, if only thanks to the all ages version. Still wouldn't pick it over a number of other things, though. It's fun but nothing about it really stands out as that great. Except the music, I guess.
Is this a glitch or is she suddenly alright after exploding
They tell you at the start that Kill the Monkey will lead to story inconsistencies. It's a little lame that they didn't tweak it a bit to work more. I guess inserting Nobunaga into every scene would be a hassle.
Tokichirou is the one who broke the first gourd. Without him, Xavier remains sealed and his other apostles dormant. Except Gigai if you get Souun because they were too lazy to come up with any other way of getting him. I wonder where he goes after he makes Ran explode when there's no Xavier to serve.
You'd think he'd just nuke every settlement in JAPAN to break all the gourds really quickly. Maybe being a fag somehow reduces the Demon's hold over the Apostle.
Actually, what is he getting up to in Quest now that his master's gone for good?
Evenicle and Rance IX are the things I really want to work on, personally. After that I don't know, I'm interested in the idea of attempting to fix Daiteikoku to some extent and releasing that.
And Rance VI of course, but yeah.
There are so many things.
I talk about a bunch of problems here, some of which would be easy to fix while some like pacing would be more of a challenge. I'd even go so far as adding some story content just to make the ending more cohesive (and probably to create some sort of time limit for the sake of having actual challenge).
Chinu keeps talking like she is going to die as well. Also she looks like she would be short but the cg makes it seem like she is just about as tall as rance. But then again it also looked like they messed up on rance's proportions
You know, I have a copy of RPG Maker lying around. What would you all want to see in a shitty Rance RPG Maker game?
I suppose we can start off the deep end and have Kanami be the antagonist. What do we do with our current Demon King couple?
Kanami kidnaps Kentarou to make Miki follow her so Rance and co can catch Miki and give her lemons.
Kanami trips over the grass and accidentally stabs Miki in the neck (after Chaos broke the IF).
Quite fucked up. This is holl I organize mine.
MG hasn't really released a lot of actual games with which to do that. But this'd be pretty drastic and it'll depend on what Alicesoft's okay with.
Decided to check the Pastel Chime Continue script size. Surprisingly big.
Rance Quest + Magnum: 3MB
Pastel Chime Continue: 2.8MB
Beat Blades Haruka: 2.7MB
Toushin Toshi III: 2.6MB
Rance IX: 2.3MB
Sengoku Rance: 1.9MB
Rance VI: 1.8MB
Rance 03: 1.6MB
Rance 01: 1.6MB
Galzoo Island: 1.5MB
Blade Briders: 1.2MB
I'd guess most of that is the relationship events.
That's pretty big considering when it was released.
It was their biggest game to date.
Also surprised Evenicle was actually that big. I guess the way the EXP worked meant there was no grinding so it didn't feel particularly long. Plus there wasn't really any bloat, most the scenes were pretty relevant.
Sill's 03 design is really cute. It managed to push her from "meh" to "pretty good" in my book.
She's an awful party member though. She doesn't even have the usual huge cap to help her.
>She's an awful party member
Her stat growths make her tankier than most of the other mage type characters. I agree that losing the cap advantage over Shizuka pretty much kills any reason to use her though.
It's more that the battle system with the skill slots makes her redundant.
She's not as good an offensive mage as Shizuka and she's not as good a healer as Sel.
Rance 03 is not a game where 'allrounders' shine
She's still in meh territory for me though. Her voice was irritating as well.
VI is also built on a system where you want to run through a full group of 16 party members anyway, so she doesn't have to be the best healer to still be important.
Rance VI makes you rotate your characters a lot.
That said the exp items that kyankyans drop in the end game make it easy to keep her leveled.
A late game character who joins when you have 8 slots
>A late game character who joins when you have 8 slots
She's still an all-rounder character that's really good. You'd have no reason to use Kanami or Sill if you got her earlier, and I wager most people had Kanami on their team the entire game up until invading Leazas.
She's still completely outdone by Alex, who is better at all of the things that give her an edge over other mages. It's a shame he, Rick, Gandhi and Urza don't stick around in the post game.
That's because Maris is really good at what she does.
Kanami is good to keep on her early because her normal attack is a different type to other normal attacks and because it's good to have someone who can remove defensive buffs every turn by attacking before your damage dealers attack
Which Maris can also do. I'm trying to say that, even with her somewhat small (still bigger than way more characters than it should be) amount of time on the party Maris is really good and the counterargument of it only being because you have enough party slots to put her in without sacrificing anything is disproven by the fact that she'd still be really good even with fewer skill slots since she has high stats and a normal attack.
He wishes its script size were bigger. Since he began translating Haruka, only games with massive scripts made up mostly of dog fucking will satisfy him. Were his plans to edit Daiteikoku to ever come off the ground, he'd add a Shibagami route.
The thing about Daibanchou's script is that there's an immense number of repeated scenes (mostly H-scenes) all over the place, so it's hard to actually measure. It's 4MB just taken like that.
I was talking about all-around characters and the idea that they're overshadowed in-game when in reality, it's only Sill.
Jericho is a joke character, Julia is a joke character with a secret skill that makes her good for the post-game dungeon and nothing else and Aten is a solid mage that suffers from similar problems to Leila and Menad.
think you missed my original point.
What I mean by Rance 03 not being a game for allrounders is that it's not a good game for the characters who can do a lot of things but are inferior to the specialists.
Sill can use offensive magic and she can heal.
Shizuka is obtained relatively early in the game and is a much better offensive mage. Sill can't even use her magic attack every turn which would actually make her more usable.
Sel is obtained a third of the way through the game and is a much better healer.
So with the skill slot things there is no need to use Sill because Shizuka and Sel are better options and because the skill slot limit means that Sill's versatility isn't an in battle advantage because you can't use both offensive magic and healing magic in the same turn unless you set the skills, in which case you should have just set the skills for Shizuka and Sel instead.
Maris is better than the other options like Kanami so she's not in the same position. But the fact that she is an end game character is one of the reasons why she is so strong. If she were available at the start of the game she wouldn't be as good
Menad is the secret best character though.
The character clears go a little too far into being impossible to decipher. Daiakuji did it better by just having one condition that was relatively possible to discover for each character.
>Maris is better than the other options like Kanami so she's not in the same position
Oh, okay, fair.
It's great that they made Maris a god-tier jack of all trades though. Her instantly rendering any strengths Sill and Kanami had useless almost makes me think it's a joke.
>Menad is the secret best character though.
That basically puts her in the same category as Julia though. Late game characters that have great hidden utility if you work for it.
>The character clears go a little too far into being impossible to decipher.
I agree. I've got no idea how I'm supposed to know to put Sanzou, Francine and Blue Sonken together since nothing they say even alludes to them being friends. It definitely helps them get more personality than the Daiakuji characters had though.
>Maris a god-tier jack of all trades
That's exactly what she is in universe. Her cap is only 3 levels below Rick's, for crying out loud. I could honestly see a maxed out Maris being one of the strongest characters in the setting based on versatility alone.
The effort to actually make Julia usable is too much for her to be any good. Even if you get her 03 skill, she's still entirely worthless without ranking up all her skills, which you can only do by finding them in chests. Menad's actually practical to power up and very useful for the optional bosses.
I'd be interested in seeing how she'd do in a rematch against Rance now that she's level 50.
It's a clever way of having the gameplay reflect Rance's growing loneliness without Sill. I kid of course.
Rick is only the strongest MAN in Leazas.
Maris has a huge array of great skills, including physical fighting and both kinds of magic and is basically the shadow ruler of the nation. 3 levels pretty much means nothing.
Plus he'd instantly lose in a fight against her since she's his waifu and he'd get too nervous. Maris is hands down the most competent person on the continent, and also one of the strongest.
>Imagine how strong Rick and Maris' children will be
Nice use of 'will', anon. It's a shame that 03 went out of its way to confirm a Leila end for Rick. /haniho/ is basically Rick/Maris the thread.
The gap between a skilled level 1 and a skilled level 2 is still so massive that they'll never be as good as the level 2s in their specific fields, though I guess being really good at basically everything is pretty good too.
This is a legit image from /v/ from someone in their first playthrough who is getting destroyed by the Shimazu bros.
And apparently spent a million turns leveling up during the temple incident
I still have my old saves. This was my first playthrough.
I wouldn't call Maris a " a god-tier jack of all trades" in 03. What makes her great isn't the fact that she can be used for different roles, as her heal also loses to Sel and her half HP damage don't work on the enemies that matter, but actually her 03 skill that sometimes makes enemies skip their turn. And her every turn attack is decent so you at least have one skill to equip that isn't a waste while getting the effect from her 03 skill.
Didn't Aselia's (or was it Yumina?) bad gameplay led to low sales or something? There was something about both it and Yumina's low sales leading to JAST's reluctance to bringing over more gameplay titles.
But, that's not what I meant.
Instead of a game with bad gameplay being localized and sold like that, Dateikoku would be improved and then sold.
And it's not what MG thinks, but what Alicesoft thinks of that. I was saying AS shouldn't care about what happens with Dateikoku, they would just get money out of it.
Sorry, I was a bit unclear. Hopefully, this helps.
>One of the examples is right in the opening, with the voice over when we see Shizuka. I couldn't find a way to describe it that doesn't sound really awkward in English so I translated it as 'awe-inspiring magic'.
I just had a quick look at how Aru translated it in the first episode and he used 'Magic growing increasingly bright within a mystery.'
Which is a more correct translation than mine but fuck, I think mine gives you the gist of what was said and it's not like the dialogue in the actual episode was too complicated.
>People will also notice that I didn't use Japanese honorifics. I tried my best to translate it into English by translating conversations into something someone might actually say in English. Likewise I used 'vagina' and 'womb' instead of 'my insides' and 'the baby's room' because who the fuck actually says that?
I love when people say things baselessly.
It's their game, they might take offense to the idea that we think it needs to be changed or they might not trust us to actually make improvements.
I appreciate you want to insult me and then hide, but do you actually know enough Japanese to know what a literal translation is? Curious as to where you're coming from.
Bare in mind that I'm not particularly great at Japanese and had no experience with translating anything. I'm a native English speaker but grammatically my English is pretty shit.
I wasn't confident in translating it and only felt up to it because I was pretty happy with how well I understood Evenicle.
Plus of course, the other option for subs made the following translation errors (these are just ones that were posted in this thread)
- translated Maris as being Lia's teacher
- translated Alexander as Areki Thunder
- translated Milly as Mimi
- translated Yulan as Euran
- translated Leazas as being on the eastern continent and not being on the east of the continent
My translation was shit but it wasn't as bad as that
A Helman Third Army soldier who is basically Minerva's number 2 even though she doesn't give a shit about him. He leads the Helman soldiers invading Kalar Forest in Quest and ends up getting killed. Not terribly important, but he does manage to make a cameo as a generic Helman knight in 03's epilogue.
How many times did Rance rape Pastel in your playthrough of Quest?
They've been doing it pre-Kichikuou. I wonder if any of them are on here or if there's an entirely different fanbase of English speaking RP-ers.
25 I think?
I'm still hoping
Abertcomes back just for that. Babolat has no reason to be defeated by Arms besides being comparatively weak.
And he didn't need any contraceptive magic to do it. He's basically living Rance's dream.
But Motonari is the strongest. Even when uncursed, he still fought Xavier for 4 hours straight. Imagine him in his prime.
I'm surprised Kavachahn didn't appear in IX just for the sake of another Mamatoto reference.
The smart thing to do would be to appeal to Ragnarokh as he'd happily assist in that manner. Lia would never ask them for assistance because they'd have to give up political leverage while Zeth gaining bonus points with Helmen, Not a smart move when Leazas has total dominance in the political and economic field.
I'm disappointed. Zeth's absence is incredibly conspicuous in IX. I guess it would be hard to shoehorn Kavachaun in with no other Zeth characters.
Not really. Her body is pretty immature, not just small. Her face is distinctly older looking though. Actually, her face alone is pretty much the only reason I wouldn't consider her a pseudo-loli. It definitely looks her age.
I'm not sure how to feel that in both that and IX Kanami CG I spend more time looking at Rance than the girls
Somebody please try importing Daiakuji sprites into Daibanchou. I've done it once but I've yet to be able to replicate it.
Do I not get rengoku or gigai? Those are the best apostles.
Does Daiteikoku seriously want me to fuck Tougou's dead wife's sister and NTR Eagle Douglas at the same time? Despicable. He'd make a great in-law.
That was my reaction too. It's sad how the only female Apostle is the least interesting one.
Actually, you only need to be loyal and not fuck anyone else
after you find his wife. Even if you fucked half of the femnale population before finding her, it wouldn't be a problem.
stopped for a bit due to an exam this morning but will pick it back up in a few hours.
Enjoying it thus far.
Looking forward to C++ for the side character romance though. I don't dislike the main heroines but they don't really stand out either
Pretty fun. I'm starting to like the heroines a bit more after thinking they were all bquite boring at introduction.
Also been experiencing the same problem as that one other anon as in my Nagihara can't land a hit for shit
Suppose in X someone ate a blood soul and became a demon. Who would be likely candidates and why?
Please note it can be an existing blood soul, or one that occurs during X (IE Kayblis')
My Nagihara's a scout but he's had perfectly fine accuracy. Raise your 正確さ.
It's fun but I've been finding the game way too easy. Nothing has even come close to being threatening. Also the setting/story/characters are as uncompelling as I anticipated. Fantasy high school's a pretty boring idea and it reminds me how Alicesoft usually does a good job avoiding the high school setting.
The whole single dad thing is pretty unique to an eroge protagonist and could've easily been used to explore his character. It wasn't, obviously, but it's a cool concept.
His actual personality is basically just asking Akiyama if there are any cute girls around.
>The whole single dad thing is pretty unique to an eroge protagonist
You clearly don't know of many eroge. There are entire series based around single dads. Mostly about fucking their daughters.
It would've been pretty weird to have Tougou make speeches about the struggles of being a single parent. And dumb.
I agree that there's something there, but I don't really know how it could be pulled off well, even if they tried harder with writing Tougou.
I'm pretty sure there are a bunch.
Speaking of pretentious-looking protags, is Kami no Rhapsody shit? It looks like it might be good but I have a faint memory of someone telling me it sucked.
Yes, it's a game full of very poorly implemented gimmicks and the entire plot is just a training arc. Everyone you recruit joins so you can "get stronger" and make "the ultimate orchestra" to play "the ultimate song," which ends up being a remix of the main theme.
Does a good job of summing up some of the worst problems.
>Everyone you recruit joins so you can "get stronger" and make "the ultimate orchestra" to play "the ultimate song," which ends up being a remix of the main theme.
That sounds awful. I'll avoid it then.
What about Kenseiki Alpha Ride? I really want to play a decent SRPG.
Jesus Christ no. Look at the EGS scores, or better yet, read some of the comments. They're hilarious. It's buggy as fuck and full of problems. My favorite is that the AI will sometimes seem to softlock the game when random units take 20 seconds to think about an action. It also has severe balance issues.
If you want a decent untranslated SRPG, I'd suggest Ohzoku. It's Softhouse Chara, so the usual pluses and minuses (fun characters, tongue in cheek, lack of angst and melodrama, completely backwards game balance from hard as balls to easy as piss). If you liked Aselia, Seinarukana obviously, but the characters and story are as worse as the gameplay is better. If you liked Yumina, the fandisk is better in every way, and Corona's... okay. It's lower level chuuni and virtually indistinguishable from a light novel.
It's fun, but again it's Softhouse Chara. They overcomplicate and balance is always way too hard at the start and then way too easy at the end.
I forgot that there's Himegari too, although it's really just a heavily stripped down and much shorter Kamidori with a shitload more rape. And grinding too, somehow, just for dosh instead of materials.
That's acceptable. I loved Kamidori, couldn't stand Himegari. There are a number of lesser RPGs and SRPGs out there too, but most are pretty half-assed or make Softhouse Chara seem positively restrained when it comes to overcomplicated bullshit.
There are a metric shitload of Sengoku-like games, but they're almost all universally terrible and literally half of them are from Gesen-18. I'm including Eiyuu Senki in the terrible list because it is terrible.
There are a lot of relatively hidden gems that are all but unknown by the West depending on what you like. Magic a Ride (puzzle platformer) and Nega0 (RPG/Phoenix Wright puzzler) both have fantastic characters and stories. Re;Lord (shooter kind of) is a great little comedy series. Quantum Girlfriend (RPG) is a solid Persona clone. Dea Ex Machina (business management/card game) and Amatsukaze (card game) are both ridiculously well written sweeping epics. Suzukuri Dragon (dungeon builder) and Wizard's Climber (sim raiser) are probably Softhouse Chara's two best games, in both design and characters. Lillian/Pajamasoft also does characters extremely well (Princess Witches, Twinkle Crusaders, and Prism Ark).
There's a whole world out there of games that you'll never see if you just look at the top few from only the most popular companies.
