I was talking about all-around characters and the idea that they're overshadowed in-game when in reality, it's only Sill.
Jericho is a joke character, Julia is a joke character with a secret skill that makes her good for the post-game dungeon and nothing else and Aten is a solid mage that suffers from similar problems to Leila and Menad.

What I mean by Rance 03 not being a game for allrounders is that it's not a good game for the characters who can do a lot of things but are inferior to the specialists.

Sill can use offensive magic and she can heal.

Shizuka is obtained relatively early in the game and is a much better offensive mage. Sill can't even use her magic attack every turn which would actually make her more usable.

Sel is obtained a third of the way through the game and is a much better healer.

So with the skill slot things there is no need to use Sill because Shizuka and Sel are better options and because the skill slot limit means that Sill's versatility isn't an in battle advantage because you can't use both offensive magic and healing magic in the same turn unless you set the skills, in which case you should have just set the skills for Shizuka and Sel instead.

Maris is better than the other options like Kanami so she's not in the same position. But the fact that she is an end game character is one of the reasons why she is so strong. If she were available at the start of the game she wouldn't be as good

I agree. I've got no idea how I'm supposed to know to put Sanzou, Francine and Blue Sonken together since nothing they say even alludes to them being friends. It definitely helps them get more personality than the Daiakuji characters had though.

The effort to actually make Julia usable is too much for her to be any good. Even if you get her 03 skill, she's still entirely worthless without ranking up all her skills, which you can only do by finding them in chests. Menad's actually practical to power up and very useful for the optional bosses.

Ironically Sill's skill set would make her fairly useful in Quest.

Which of course is one of the few games she isn't a party member in

What makes her great isn't the fact that she can be used for different roles, as her heal also loses to Sel and her half HP damage don't work on the enemies that matter, but actually her 03 skill that sometimes makes enemies skip their turn. Bare in mind that I'm not particularly great at Japanese and had no experience with translating anything. I'm a native English speaker but grammatically my English is pretty shit.
I wasn't confident in translating it and only felt up to it because I was pretty happy with how well I understood Evenicle.
