Technically, there are quite a few civless wonders
>Petra
>Al Hambra
>Red Fort
>Sistine Chapel
>Leaning Tower of Pisa
>Sydney Opera House
>CN Tower
>Prora (kind of)
>International Space Station
>Hubble Space Telescope

and if you want to get really pedantic
>Taj Mahal (Mughals)
>Temple of Artemis (predates "Greece")
>Colossus of Rhodes (depending on whether Rhodes is considered Greek)
>Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (depending on if a city closer to Jerusalem than Athens can be considered Greek, and it also predates "Greece")
>Neuschwanstein (was built by the Bavarians, not Germans)

There's also many civilizations that don't have their own wonders
>Japan
>Rome
>Persia
>Assyria
>Brazil
>Aztecs
>Poland
>Portugal
>Spain
>Morocco
etc etc. Meanwhile Greece has like 20 wonders, depending on what you consider Greek.
>>
>>120906468
>Implying I didn't find everyone first

>Feed the World
>Swords into Plowshares
>Internal trade routes giving food
>Granary, Water Mill, and at least 3 farms per city
>Get a combined total of 70 population by the 1,000s

Internal trade routes are the biggest contributor to the overpopulation. It's possible to get 30 population in a city before you reach the Renaissance. I've managed to hit 50 in the Industrial as France.
>>
>>120906865
>getting those first two wonders

>>
>>120906865
>>120906918
>>120907164
Honestly, getting Temple of Artemis and Hanging gardens isn't tremendously difficult. Even on Deity and Immortal it's possible to get those early game wonders (although actually it's more dependent on how the AI is feeling as opposed to rushing)
The more difficult matter is getting your own religion, because the AI seems to really not like picking Feed the World and Swords into plowshares, let alone together.

Desert Folklore if you want to rush to a religion, one with nature if settling Mt Kailash if you want one city to be a super faith producer, sun god if you want a lot of food from that wheat
>>
>>120907707
Try for Desert Folklore. Kailash will give you +9 faith a turn with One with Nature.

Sun God will make that wheat produce as much food as a natural wonder before you even get fertilizer. Flood Plains Wheat is fucking broken as a food source.

God King is also an option if you just want a little bit of everything. It basically gives you another half-palace.

Also, why the fuck is Dido such a cunt? I got two composite bowmen from ruins and bullied a city state for money, now she is talking shit to me almost every turn.
>>
>>120908002
Poland probably has a long and rich history whereas Canada has a distinct lack of history. It's like we cling to that time we were really awesome in WW1 and that time we were really awesome in WW2, then get sad about the fact that we treated Natives and Asians like shit, and the Canadarm I guess.
>>120908071
Dido is a cunt, but bullying CS isn't exactly a super nice move to begin with
>>
I wonder what generates more food, Venice with 22 puppets sending naval food trade routes to it, or Siam on a huge map getting food from 24 city states that are all inexplicably maritime
>>
>>120907707
you're going to want things related to tiles near your cities or cities you very soon plan to settle. that or other misc bonuses you see yourself working toward
so here, fishing boats, wheat, or desert tiles would be alright choices without being too complex
>>
>>120909223
Is the +1 production from fishing boats pantheon good? I'm thinking either Sun God or One With Nature, but if the fishing boats one is good I'll definitely grab it.
>>
>>120909373
if you settle several coastal cities, since coastal cities (generally) get less production, its a nice way to offset that, and/or get higher production you would normally, earlier
you can see here, depending on where you settle, you might have an easy 6 production, 4 of it in your capital.
it just generally depends on your tiles, in this case, fishing boats could be a good choice, but then its useless if you settle that inland city near all the wheat, or an ocean without resources

similar to folklore, its going to help your capital ALOT, and maybe a second city, but not all your cities are going to get it
same with wheat, but that one generally is in more tile types, so it should be alright

Sheaim caused armageddon, destroyed most of the units apart from demons and undead.
Calabim and Sheaim then started to roll everyone.
I tried to take Ljoslfar land, they used their world spell, waited for the ents to die.
Took a city of thiers only for the few units I had to die to the 2 horseman that wreaked them for the past 80 turns or so.

BNW is easy. It's EL that's hard.

The fact that you're supposed to leave certain techs behind each tier is so confusing to me, and having to buy heroes or commanders or whatever for my armies is also aggravating.

Combat too, ugh.

I'm sure it can be fun for whoever can figure it out but after a dozen games I give up.

Civ 5 is about 100x easier.

Their UA is pretty lame since you don't normally throw pre Renaissance era units to capture units since only the Caravels can go into the ocean outside of your borders.

I had a fun game with their Janissary pushing into a Great Wall Jungle terrain Babylon to stop them from snowballing.
>>
>>120973234
That's the only faction I've played so far.

Comfy is the last word I'd use to describe it.

No matter how easy the setting or how much I invest in units, I'm eventually surrounded on all sides by the other factions who crisscross all over my borders and have way stronger armies.

>Red Fort
I'm pretty sure Spain and India are in the game
Sure, if like you said you want to be pedantic you can say Moors and Mughals (?) built them
But that was a list on its own

Rome has it's own wonder, more or less, Circus Maximus
It's National Wonder though, so yeah

Is Hallicarnassus further away from Athens than Jerusalem? The Aegean Sea isn't that big, is it? Also, in those times Greek meant a culture, not a country. Alex wasn't a Greek, ut Macedonia was Greek, or rather Hellenic I think.

Tbh that was from a few months ago
They all declared war multiple times, but I held the line, Barcelona was settled near Cerro de Potosi, which meant I could field a large army early on
And I was lucky as fuck and could get Petra in Seville, which was desert hills and lots of sheep, which meant I could shit out large armies as well

That game was one of my most enjoyable games though
Playing as Spain, seeing nice lands to settle which are inhabited by Native Americans.
Just settle there anyway and kill them all
Hiawatha was the first to strike, I destroyed his army and took his border town
Pocatello followed soon after and learned just as Hiawatha what it meant to go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line
Hiawatha decided to try his luck and hoped I had lubed up my anus
Unfortunately for him when people try to do shit like that I snap.
I burned everything he had down, which lead to Cusco and Pocatello attacking me, which lead to their demise as well
And then I became Isabella, subjugator of Native American scum

Here's the episode by the way. I'm sure BE's failings have been discussed to death on these generals but its nice to have a few really intelligent guys summarize what's wrong with the game.

Looking through their most recent episodes, it seems like they haven't touched on Rising Tide yet. i'm hoping they bring it up in an upcoming episode because their discussions on the Civ 4 and Civ 5 expansions were really enlightening.

combat is slow when you dont auto, but generally, you only need to actually control maybe 50% of them, and even then its not much different than autoing
also (and this isn't a big one) some people dislike the endless winter, but the bigger thing is that its more resource intensive during winter, so if you're on a low end pc, that can kinda fuck you over

Either by attacking/teaming me early or by running away with game from the other side of the map.

You are very vulnerable to the AI's massed melée units early because of the nerf to cities and ranged units. To be safe you have to have blocker units fortified in front of your border cities, which hurts you early economy and expansion a lot.

If you can do that you can still lose to an unmolested AI on the other side of the map that quickly expands to 10+ cities. Warmongers create larger and more coherent empires and do better science-wise because of the changes to science and AI-priorities. To compete with them you have to build a very wide or tall empire and you are behind the curve on that if you invest in early military.

Pic is me defending against ottomans (thanks to hoplites).

it's like what they said on Three Moves Ahead

Beyond Earth lacks character. You can't step to SMAC, which was practically perfect in every way and a great video game artistic statement.
>>
>>121102749
In many ways it reminds me of genre analysis in film, especially of revisionist films rebelling against the classical film of a genre. SMAC represents a large and intentional step toward deconstructing the 4X genre, but no one has really followed up on it. I couldn't really say whether that's due to commercial reasons or the relative youth of the current period of many studios working on 4X games. Once people get tired of the standard 4X formula, we'll get concerted innovation. But not until it's been done to death.

I haven't played Civ5 in a while, so I've installed the Piety and Prestige and the CBP mods to give it another ride.
I have noticed however for some reason city-states are a lot weaker than I remember, like by a lot, their cities barely grow to around 7-8 pop and most times they barely have any garrison around.
Is it a side effect of the CBP or did they get nerfed hard at some point ? To me it looks like they're not getting the difficulty bonuses the AIs get from playing on Immortal.
I clearly remember each city-state being able to reach at least the 20 pop mark in most cases, sometimes even as high as 30.
>>
>>121100871
There was a big patch released a few days ago, yes. Now when you want to negotiate peace, you get a big list of things to pick from, like resources, cities, techs and whatnot, each with a cost attached. The more War Score points you have, the more stuff you can afford, and the AI has to accept. You can choose to take less from them if you want, in which case they'll accept your generosity.

Got DoW'd by Rome and Byzantine when I still had 12 turns left on SS Cockpit and 6 turns left on two other parts. Realized 12 turns was way too long so took the cash4part ideology and started saving. Had to dismantle my cities, selling a building each turn. Unhappiness reached 10 so sold a city to England for 250 gpt and fur. England declared war immediately after but unhappiness OK anyway due to having lost unhappiness from that city.

Got the 2,5k for the Cockpit and was able to survive the 6 turns for the two last parts to finish.

What's the minimum start required to get Stonhenge (and so a fast Religion) at Deity?
Is it a matter of having forests or is it a matter of having 2-3 great production tiles? Any examples?
>>
>>121150831
Faith natural wonder as Spain.
>>
>>121150831
Try playing with a faith based civ like the Maya or Celts. If you really want the wonder, your best chance would be a salt start with a couple of forests to chop.
>>
>>121151079
Acquire a natural wonder that gives you reading comprehension, he asked the minimum requirements to have a chance at SH.
>>
>>121152223
Well, i wanted to get a religion with Byzantium or Persia, so civs with no inner faith generation and no salt starts.
Maybe a better question is: what tiles/hammers are the minimum requirements to get a fiar chance at Stonehenge at Deity?
Is it 1-2 salt + 2-3 forests? Any more common tiles possible?
>>
>>121150252
I know this feeling. If the AI want an autocratic world, it is your duty to give it to them.
>>
>>121152548
Alright, ideal scenario would be a hill start, as much salt as possible, marble, some forests, free tech from ruins (for quarries), free population from ruins, and the tradition policy.
>>
>>121153001
You can settle on marble for the increased wonder production without needing masonry.
>>
>>121153001
>hill start
easy
>salt
Closest tile that gives almost the same benefits? Salt isn't that common, is it?
>marble
Doable, needs rerolls but it's perfectly doable
>forests
easy
>free tech from ruins
While i'm quite efficient at snatching ruins even at deity (i get at least 5 every game), i don't think it's possible (unless i reload until i get the right ruin bonus) to rely on a SPECIFIC free tech.
>free pop from ruins
easy
>tradition
easy

But again, i'd like the MINIMUM requirements, so that i can know when to reroll a start or not with civs that i need them to get a religion.

Thanks in advance dude.
>>
>>121153998
Minimum requirements depend on who is in the game, how much they prioritize stonehenge, and how quickly they can get it. So you can only find this out empirically.

So I pirated Beyond Earth like day 2 after it came out and never opened it up.

I played my first game on easy two days ago since my internet was down for a long time like a week and had nothing to do, with the release version of the game.

I noticed that everything seemed difficult at first, and there wasn't a clear path on what way to go I was playing on normal mode, and I felt like I was doing better than everyone else because my science was the highest barely and was going down the Purity route playing Brazilia. Game seemed to go by quick, I didn't have any wars but I was on my own island sort of and no big border disputes, I know all Civ games are easy on easy mode, but I didn't check my score compared to everyone elses up until I actually have the affinity gate or whatever the earth settlers gate was called, and I was near the bottom of it point wise yet I had a stronger military than everyone else due to my affinity being the highest earliest on and also noticed building wonders doesn't really matter in the game and it becomes excessively easy to just bumrush the end goal with nothing else going on or any midterm goals.

Does it get much more difficult to win the game on harder settings or is it still as easy as rushing science/affinity and being friendly to everyone?

Do the updates or any DLC I don't know of add anything more interesting to the game or is the whole tech tree with branches thing as well as worms and krakens seeming like some difficulty meter actually just an illusion of difficulty when winning is still simple?

Settling here will make a coastal town, right?
>>

>That two-tile chokepoint to the east is really pretty.
>I would probably settle one tile south-east of the eastern banana and then something on the coast.
Holy shit I'm retarded. Switch east with west.
Jesus that's embarrassing. I made the same mistake when I was talking to someone yesterday. It was embarrassing then, and it's embarrassing now.

Is there a mod that gets rid of the modern+ eras and makes the industrial era the apex of the game?

I feel as though the game just gets boring after then. Not because of the pacing or the clusterfuck that diplomacy becomes, but because I don't like lasers, B52s and death machines. It feels like this weird half-assed scifi gimmick that doesnt even last long enough for me to enjoy it.
>>
>>121211210
I never get fucking wonders. They always fall to city states. In my current game as Britain fucking Lake Victoria and Solomon's Mines are both with city states. Always either too far away or right near me but a tile from being with a city state.

I guess this mod would do it https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=85965813
Or you could just make your own if you don't like that stuff gets moved into industrial in that mod http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=420286

That's why I play without city-states :^)
But seriously, try a game without city-states. It's wildly different and really interesting.

That person >>121212318 also has more mods that change what era science stops, and he collected them together on http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=85614447

While searching for mods for you, though, I did find this absolute gem of social interaction: http://steamcommunity.com/app/8930/discussions/0/558752449657651096/

It'd be cool if leaders changed attire as they progressed through the ages. Stone Age Elizabeth and Space Suit Atilla and stuff
>>
>>121213567
I recall they did that in Civ III, can't say for IV
>>
>>121213567
This is actually how it is in Civ III.
>>

that's weird, that's the one I never played. Jumped straight from Civ II to IV

III is probably a weaker entry honestly. I still really like it though.

Try scouting senpai, you can usually settle a city before city-state borders grab the N-wonders

Am I the only one who fucking hates spawning near forests?
>>
>>121219741
Dense forest sucks, but a couple of forests are good for early production.
>>
>>121219741
Good to chop, and forest with deer is pretty good, but a big mass of forest is annoying as fuck
>>
>>121219741
The only thing worse is spawning in dense jungle.
>>
>>121217736
senpai :3
>>
>>121220174
>spawn in Jungle
>Tall as fuck city, huge science
>literally no production

JUST
>>
what do people mean by tall and wide?
>>
>>121220961
Tall means few number of high population cities
Wide means large number of low population cities
>>
>>121220961
>tall
Focusing on a few large cities
>wide
Focusing on a lot of small cities
>>
>>121220961
Think of it in terms of plants. A tall civilization plants a few trees at the start of the game which then grow up to be huge and strong. A wide civilization plants bushes everywhere.
>>
>>121219741

I love playing with the chinese but I usually spawn in heavy dense forest.

I spent hours rerolling spawns...
>>
>>121221797
untick the box which says like civ specific spawns or whatever it is
>>
>>121221964

I tought that'd generate even shitter spawn places. Like, a tinyfuck island in an ocean or something
>>
>>121222225
The quality of starts should remain the same, it's just that if you're playing Arabia, for example, you won't automatically be near some desert.
>>
>>
>>121224513
What difficulty? Settler 1-7 or normal?
>>
>>121224840
King.

Really ought to start dxtory up before I open the game.

Rocket Artillery/Mechanized Infantry sure feel nice. Something about bringing a city down in the Information Era as fast as a Battering Ram does in the first 20 turns is really satisfying.
