Why is my immigration so low? It originally capped out at ~22k, then I taxed everyone out of the city and let it regrow, it got to ~25k before stopping again, at which point I demolished the only bridge out of the city. This seems to have stopped people from leaving, but I still get very few people entering.

The type of floor tile do have an impact on happiness. Not only that but in the latter game when your craters are good enough, you should replace every piece of furniture so that they are high q for an even bigger mood boost

No worries. I'm trying to keep both /cbg/ and /tg/ alive. I understand why /tg/ would die, but I'm seriously surprised with /cbg/. It's a game where the user's creativity is all that matters. I think taxes were causing the problem, though the effect took really long to show up. I had my taxes at 11% for maybe 30 minutes before they showed up, and they disappeared a few minutes after I lowered them back to 9%.

remember how AI used to be on the same game map as you and you would compete for islands and therefore resources? it's just you in a "sector" now

basically, it's a really gimmicky way to expand the game world without much effort, as each sector runs co-currently to one another, but you need to swap between them which involves a loading screen

It is also good that since after dark very obviously uses old tricks from Cities XL to have night and day, they used its more realistic render and color correction.

Different road types work just fine without mods. Key is not to overuse the larger roads and proper hierarchy. Highways with few interchanges feeding into 4 or 6 lane roads, which in turn have limited amount of intersections to 2 lane streets. This is not a hard rule. You might need to build some exceptional things for extreme traffic areas like industrial area entry points.

I usually connect only every third or second block to the large roads, it works really well.

One way roads are a trap, you really need to plan well to get any benefit from them. Roundabouts and industrial area traffic tridents are the best uses.

Prepared food can only last so long before it spoils when not refrigerated but if you feel like you consume it fast enough, there shouldn't be a problem.

I've just noticed that each time a building upgrades, it consumes 1 tool, so I've stopped the ascension of every building in the area. How do I get more tools? In 1404 I could simply buy them using my ship, but I don't have any here. And I can't build all the infrastructure necessary to produce my own tools yet.

Hi /cbg/ I just bought the game today so this is basically my first city and I have a huge trafic since my main street is a 6 lane road with loads of lights. I just can't remove this road because I have an university, a hospital and other important buildings.

The heightmap conversion is shit though, I've tried multiple version from completely accurate compression to nearly non-compressed images and cities always manages to somehow fuck up the image, mostly having the heightmap blend together by inches, i think because of the 16bit comp ( the map itself can have more detailed heightmap, but the heightmap thats recommended for import and gets out of export is of lower quality) which is really annoying when youre doing a precise coastline by water.

Aight so I am almost done with Sleeping Dogs and am hyped to jump into a city game. Last one I played was SimCity '13 and it tore my heart for how ruined I felt from the shit EA bestowed on my favorite franchise. I mean it is not completely terrible, I had my fun with it but its no SC4.

I've collected a few within the years and want to start with a more complex learning experience. With Anno 2205 along the way, should I begin my city building with Anno 2070 or would I get more of an experience with Tropico 4 Complete in terms of complexity? (Modding advice is appreciated too)

Anno series is really more about economics and logistics than citybuilding. Balancing your budget, setting up supply chains for various goods you need, and distributing them efficiently. City layout only matters for service coverage, traffic is entirely a non-issue. In terms of complexity high-level consumer goods are pretty difficult to set up and there's of course the combat, you'll have to deal with AIs potentially wanting your stuff and maybe pirates.

Tropico is less complex on economics, just farm cashcrops, suck up to someone for foreign aid and you'll be fine. Politics and citizen happiness are important too but I think it's a bit too easy to keep everyone happy so little to no rebels and then combat becomes a non-issue apart from scripted missions. City layout kind of matters for traffic but you can just half-ass it and generally come out fine due to relatively low population numbers. It's entertaining but nowhere near as challenging as Anno at similar difficulty settings.

Overall I'd say go for Anno unless you feel like roleplaying as a dictator and do funny shit.

Do bikes indeed go slower in heavy pedestrian traffic or do they just breeze thru them no matter what.

I have a feeling these bike policies and related roads are for the Germans of us. The pointless simulation of realism. But if anyone knows any actual gameplay benefit of trying to give bikes their own road let me know. I'm interested in making a city with a bike shortcut to the industrial for the workers to cut the bus lines to it.

Also, do cyclists use public transit? Or are they locked out of boarding anything? Buses typically have bike racks so just curious if anyones done the science.

Played for a couple of hours. So far, very pretty and could be good. The "combat" maps are a bit odd, only played one but I can see them being pretty repetitive fast. Just hope the resource drops from them can be sourced some other way, so far it was the only way to expand farms and what not. Being able to expand other non farm production buildings is nice though, some more thought needed for planning production chains

You can build add one which attach to things, increase production but increases running costs type of things, so like I'm anno 1404 you could add more fields to farms for this you can like add another factory bit or a robot bay thing so it needs less workers to any of the production buildings, and the farms. I seriously doubt there will ever be extensive colonization of either the Moon or Mars. The reduced gravity really fucks with human health, and anyone who spent a long enough time would not be able to visit earth with out a very long period of physical training. That's not to mention that the surface of the Moon is basically covered in very fine shards of glass, which get everywhere and clings to anything with a slight charge and will absolutely destroy your lungs, and Mars is covered in perchlorate salts that are absolutely toxic to most earth life.

Because no actual win condition besides expanding indefinitely. Nothing to build towards to after getting 350 population for "Overpopulation" achievement. Once I've reached 100+ pop with a healthy industry, all I need to do is build robots, shift population intake to mainly food producers and expand from there. Rather dull now that I think about it. If I could hurl meteors at the base and watch it burn, I would have done that instead.

Well, I've been playing Anno 2505 for a little while, and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. Actually, I'm quite a lot disappointed. Is this really even an anno game at all any more?

I guess if the only thing you enjoyed about Anno was the building you're fucking golden, but if you like literally anything else about it, that's all gone.

So I got anno late last night and have shit to do this morning but I fired it up to get all of the tedious uplay shit out of the way.

Figured I'd drop in here to say that it's actually really simple, for anyone in the fence about getting it for uplay. When you launch your game it goes through the regular steam set up stuff then a window pops up asking to link your steam and uplay accounts. You press yes and then enter the game CD key in a box and boom that's it.

Game launches immediately after. It's not like 2070 with that cumbersome as fuck client. The only annoying bit is the fact that an advertisement pops up once you quit the game.

Also shit looks quite nice. Theres some obvious reused assets from anno but for a niche game like this I'm not surprised. You get to pick some emperor of mankind style logos for your corporation too. Kinda cool.

I don't know if I'd go quite that far. The formula has changed but I think it still feels like an Anno game. Just a little different. Satisfying production chains and moving resources between settlements is still there.

The new production building mechanics are slightly different but still there too. Just instead of building farms to get the building to actually operate farms are instead upgrades to the building itself.

I don't know. I don't mean to say YOUR WRONG YOUR STUPID FUCK YOU. I'm just saying I think it still seems pretty Annoish and I'm digging it so far.

The one major thing that I'm displeased with is the way they combined the campaign with sandbox

You're essentially playing in a sandbox entire time except it keeps trying to pull you along by the hand into doing specific things to advance instead of letting you come by them naturally, makes it feel a little artificial and pre-determined and I wish they would all just go away and there was a nice rivalry system vs AI corps instead

Otherwise it feels like a proper Anno game to me - the things improved outweigh the things simplified more or less.

Military and fighting in Anno was always kind of shit anyway. Never the focus of the game. It's always felt like an afterthought to me.

Also they are useful for getting the resources you need to upgrade buildings. Past that then yeah, there's not much of a point.

Racing for islands is missing though. That is kind of a bummer but I'm strangely okay with it. I more liked it just for just building and satisfying the chains.

Seems so. There are other NPC corporations in the game but they aren't even on the same maps that you pick. I don't know the extent of competition with them though. All I've noticed was a Civilization style bar graph denoting who's doing better.

It seems like the island tug-of-war is gone but that -might- make an appearance later. I'm only three hours into it so I don't know each and every change that's been made.

Finished a session of the new Anno, it's pretty comfy

My view on the new game is "it's all the small things that should have been there since the first game in the series"

Truly the best feature. I hated counting tiles or risking being off by one tile if I just eyeballed shit. Now I can just plop shit down and if it's one tile off, no big. The previous Anno games were essentially hybrids. 2505 is pretty much a pure city builder, the crisis zones are beyond a joke.

"Mixed" reviews seems fair considering they made one part of their playerbase very happy, and completely shafted the rest.

If your promises aren't what people want then obviously it'll get negative reviews. It's a pretty big change from how Anno was, and despite the improvements many people are going to dislike the absence of serious AI/MP competition.

To be honest though, combat and AI interaction wasn't even close to being Anno's strong point

The AI was dumb as bricks and basically cheated for a living, the only challenge it posed was forcing you to rapidly develop a navy to wreck its shit and prevent it from settling everywhere and usually the combat was very straightforward

Maybe they could have turned the metropolis into a hub city, and given the player much more freedom to design fleets. Even outright allow players to play the "old Anno" by mounting expeditions in Multiplayer, but as it stands the economy and city building part seems pretty spotless

I liked having to build up fast enough to settle the nice islands, while balancing your budget with enough military to keep potential enemies off your back. Defending your supply routes, stocking up large amounts of resources to tide over blockades, it's all part of the Anno experience. If it's just citybuilding then there's basically no way to fail anymore, it takes a massive chunk of the challenge out of the game.

I don't think anyone ever expected Warcraft 3 from Anno games, the combat and AI interaction were certainly fairly mediocre mechanically, but they still managed to be enjoyable for a lot of people. It wasn't so much that there was any one superb aspect of 1404 and 2070 that made them such great games, it was just a unique and entertaining package when you put all the rough little bits together.

Now they've gone and tore it apart to polish one little bit, but I liked the complete package.

Thus far you just start with a few ships in the war zones, you don't build them. There are no harbors or shipyards, besides your starting harbor warehouse building that doesn't do anything but everything has to connect to.

You also have a command ship, but it doesn't do anything.

There is. The "story mode" is just a set of missions to guide you through all the stages of lunar colonization, which is swiftly done along Free Play. I play thinking I'm on Continous mode honestly, and at the same time feel I have some side objective to do - only that it is important this time around, and not a simple side quest of "Recover my crate from the sea mate!".

Tedious and enormous production chains, using calculators on websites that only have German to find out how many Sand plants you need for whatever, setting up 45 different trade routes just to get executives, and then getting ass-raped by pirates, looking up building layouts for farms so you can jam 60 pigs into the smallest possible space, the rush for land - these things, as terrible as they are, are what made Anno, Anno.

I have no doubt that simplifying all that stuff away has made the game more fun, but I didn't come for fun. I came to claw my way through luxury production chains for 8 continuous hours to finally get a monument and sit back and ask myself was it all worth it and answer no, and then to do it again.

It just feels like that's missing.

Building modules get unlocked after the first combat mission. Be careful of redundancies until then.

Yeah, it happens pretty quick. When ever you get the extra resources. I think that triggers when you give your space port the first upgrade or you get your arctic settlement. I don't remember which happens first. Basically it triggers the combat mission. You get tons of the upgrade materials from combat missions but you can ignore combat missions completely. Usually the 'advance the story' combat missions can be bypassed by simply leveling up your corporation.

I'm really liking the game so far, but that is my main concern. Sustainability. Older Annos kept me playing with mixing the maps up and I have hundreds of hours sunk into 2070 between research and their goofy little global missions and shit. I'm not really much into multiplayer myself but I can see how the lack of it is also a serious downside.

I've already created the fusion plant. Now it wants me to make a corporate HQ which I'm guessing is just like the monuments. Once I get that done I'm not really too sure what will keep me playing. I mean I will play through the campaign another time or two just to do it but past that I just don't know what the game will offer. Hopefully there's something otherwise I can't really see investing more then 25-30 hours into it.

I have traffic manager and traffic++ installed but there is no fucking "options" button in the content manager despite opening / closing it and restarting the game.

I am assuming this also means that the mods will not work in game.

Anybody know how to fix this, they don't say anything in the FAQ besides that "some mods" (of which I have none else enabled) will break the options button.

I even have installed the 'improved modspanel' to try to fix it, to no avail.
