I was not a big fan of Dark Souls II. I did not hate it. But out of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls I, and Bloodborne; Dark Souls II is my least favorite.

I did not play all of the DLC. I did not have a desire to, until recently.

Is Scholar of the First Sin worth getting? Is enough changed to make it a new experience? Should I rebuy this entire game or just get the missing DLC for my original version on PS3?

Like I said, I didn't hate the game. It was just the worst game in the series to me. I hated soul memory, I hated all the limitations to pvp.

I hated limited respawns and enemies that only drop items in dumb locations like the NG+ ninjas in the Flexlie boss fight. That is the worst offender of the game to me.

Now, is stuff like that fixed? If I get SotFS can I get that Ninja set some place else or will I still have to go to the boss, kill 2 ninjas and feather out?

The "ninjas" are regular enemies in No Mans Wharf now so you can join CoC and easily farm them. The visible Aurous set is also a treasure in the Gutter now so no tedious farming there either. Agape ring (to control your SM) still exists.

SotFS remixes enemy spawns, item locations and and makes some other miscellaneous changes. Many of those Phantom-only sets are now available elsewhere too and joining the Champion's Covenant makes enemies respawn on a permanent basis.

scholar improved a lot of enemy placements and item placements. (no more farming the red phantom for the auros set, or the ninjas) heide knights are now in heide, Dragonrider's dragon is there too, Pursuer actually pursues you across the bastille, (and he fights you pre-curse buffed)

if you were not satisfied with the vanilla game, then perhaps don't get scholar. or pirate it first and decide if you like it better.

but I would definitely try the DLC, in order. (Sunken King first, Iron King second, Ivory last) that has some of the best level design in the game, much more Demons Souls than the rest of the game. (all the DLC's are disconnected from the world, you warp to them)

the DLC doesn't change at all between the base version or scholar, so theres that as well.

I don't understand how people complain about despawning enemies. The whole series has this to some extend with bosses and minibosses. DaS2 gives you the option to infinitely respawn them without going into NG+ and losing all your bonfires.

it is annoying because they also tied specific weapon/armor/item drops to those enemies when in dark souls 1 all armors were in chests and items that would be dropped are always dropped if the last of that enemy type is killed (so you're assured to get the item)
in dark souls 2 you have to raise the difficulty the level of the whole area to even try to kill them again, they also removed the soft humanity meter so you cant boost your item discovery with that

its pointless, they try to make the game easier but they end up making it worse in general

I think the possibility of despawing enemies is great, but the way it is done is terrible.

Should be something like, an usable throwing item that makes the enemy glow and gives him a super buff, but if you kill him he's gone forever. Then just make this item super rare until endgame.

In SotFS you get the keys manually.
The claw for Shulva is in the pit, you can get to the gutter right away, kill the giants with poison arrows and get the claw, then proceed to kill Rotten.
The Key for Brume Tower is in the fire lizard area, which you can access from the begging as long as you have the cat ring.

The only one locked away is the Frozen Flower. It's in Drangleic castle.
