He's not overly quirky like some modern characters who do silly shit all the time or blurt out random things for the sake of it, and his attitude and personality fit based on what the character's circumstances are in game.

Flowey/Asriel having infinite attack and defense would be indicative of a human consumed with hatred hellbent on destroying whomever they are facing. Yet Chara, who is now in possession of Asriel's body, has a critical weakness still that prevents him from annihilating Frisk. The memories of Asriel and how much he cared for Chara being exploited by Frisk, who is actually Asriel.

I really did like how they handled your exposure to him throughout the game.

Toriel says ASGORE will kill you.

Papyrus says KING DREEMURR is a big softie who will let you go.

You have no idea they're the same person until Undyne says KING ASGORE DREEMURR on top of her mountain, and even then, she says he has 6 human souls, then goes on to say he's a wimp later in her house.

And then Mettaton spends his entire fight assuring you that you're too weak to kill Asgore.

You really have no idea what to think of Asgore until you finally face him.

I have mommy issues of a different sort.

My mom was one of those "pressure turns coal into diamonds!" moms who shoved me into thousands of extra-curricular things I had little interest in and forced me to excel in them (some yes, some no) so I could be flaunted. I have vivid recollections of the first year I started receiving graded homework (3rd grade in my country) and she stood behind me and smacked the back of my head with a wooden ruler if I spelled anything incorrectly or didn't write neat enough.

She spent my whole life starving me of approval so I'd bend over backwards for any lick of praise. Once I hit a certain age in high school she sort of left me to my own devices, but by that point, I already had this "I need to do well or I'm worthless" mindset about everything without her assistance.

The only good thing I can say about it is I have a law degree now. Even that's only because I felt the immense pressure from that side of my family to pick a """"prestigious"""" degree rather than something less 'wow', but I'd be more invested in.
