The battle starts, and Papyrus no longer believes in you. You have to ACT and SPARE him over and over and over while he goes all out, and you have to convince him that you're sorry, that you've changed, that you're going to bring Sans and everyone else back, and the second he drops his guard, you have to attack. And if you miss the very middle of the meter for max damage, Papyrus one-shots you for betraying his trust for the final time.

And he never kills you. You just end up back in his garage. Except he's moved the bars closer. There's no way out.

Unless he went genocide, there's literally no fucking reason for him to "start fresh" by fucking with files. Tell your friend to stop being such a pussy because all that changes is like 5 lines of dialog as long as you didn't save after killing someone. Even if you did, just reset and Flowey'll taunt you, but you can still get the True ending.
